Mashu Beikir, aka Matthew Baker, derailing the Cheng Express.

Georgia v. Japan in the finals. So far, a truly dismal showing by the Korean judo team, with just two silvers and no golds or bronzes to show.

If Mashu can take gold, the Japanese will be happy in their resurgence.

Cheng ends up with an unlikely Bronze. Now we'll have to see if Baker can take gold.

Edit: and Baker takes the gold. Japan can feel a bit better, picking up gold in Men's -90 kg and Women's -70 kg today.

Did you guys see Matusmoto do two Yadviga attempts, switch it into Hammer Lock hold to get the Pin?

Unfortunately somehow a Japanese Judoka, in Olympic Judo competition, does a very Sambo technique, and somehow Basically Japanese Judo somehow owns it and people calling it Rolling Oma Plata... (which it isn't).I just don't get it.

Seriously lol? I missed Matsumoto's fights, she's a beast in newaza, but from your description it sound like the rolling version of "ashi sankaku garami" an old technique from judo. I don't know whether the rolling version got popular in Sambo first, but standard "ashi sankaku garami" is pre sambo and pre bjj.

Mark Hunzinga used it a lot some years ago, here at 1:33 ff

yes but I do believe been much more used in Sambo comps then in Judo comps over the years, in Sambo not so rare.
The vid is on a BJJ page, and Rick Hawn reposted it. Of course they said rolling oma plata....well, that would describe a reg rolling oma plata which it is not for one, and while I have heard it called a rolling reverse oma plata before...I argue that is all just funny....

well ok, I guess I could post on one of my pages and call it Rolling Hammer Lock w the Legs :)

omo*plata, all together. Don't feel embarrassed just because it sounds like "homo".

US players engaging in newaza are having quite a bit of success eh? I'm sure this means the IJF will ban newaza soon.

I don't know. Maybe they are feeling the heat from MMA, BJJ and Sambo.

Kayla in the semis .... Freedom's best chance for a gold or another silver coming up.

i think im gonna add elbows to my kumikata game too

Elbow-into-solar plexus kesa gatame is a gloriously fun way to be a proper cunt.

You mean when you take a lapel grip and use the leverage to crank the elbow down into the center of their chest, while pulling up on the sleeve with your free arm, like a total dick version of knee-on-belly?

If so, I agree, it's most glorious, particularly for use on n3wbs when you claim it's just normal rolling and they need to toughen up.
