I've taken nearly a year off from Elden Ring and I think I am ready to dip my toes back in! As far as single player content goes, have there been any drastic changes since ~last summer?
Nothing huge but there's been some nice changes for balancing skills, weapons etc such as colossal weapons swinging faster and light roll having greater distance for example.

Here's a list of the patch notes,

I may just delete my current character (lvl 40) and start from scratch. I'm mulling it over...
My faith and dex build is going okay, but nowhere near as insane as my faith/strength. Gransax Bolt just doesn't have the punch I don't think. Could be user error, not sure.

I got distracted with Fable of all things. I beat the first one and just started Fable II. What the hell is wrong with me?

Nothing, you're just enjoying great stories. Dragons' Dogma: Dark Arisen has really been on my mind as of late. I may have to jump back into that as well! :)

The GOTY awards have started to slow down and they're coming to a close, so this will probably be the next-to-last update, and it's quite a milestone as Elden Ring has become the first game ever to win 400 GOTY awards.

550 total awards:

1) Elden Ring - 400
2) God of War: Ragnarok - 97
3) Immortality - 8
4) Xenoblade Chronicle 3 - 7
5) Horizon Zero West - 5

In other news, Elden Ring is the 2nd best selling game of 2022 after Call of Duty. I don't know how optimistic From was for Elden but it has to be a shock for them how much this game exploded both commercially and critically.

Well deserved! That game turned us all into masochists! :)

"Give me more pain Elden Ring! MOOAAAARRR!"

The hype was real. As a decade+ long fan of the Soulsborne series I was excited about Elden Ring, but honestly in many ways the game actually exceeded many I’d my expectations. The more time I give myself to ruminate on it the more I think it will likely go down as one of my favourite games of all time.

It 100% exceeded my expectations simply because I just don't ever really expect to encounter games at that level it's very rare.

I was playing the game last night. I was killing Vulgar Militia Men to upgrade my intelligence. 3 hit kills 100% of the time using my Bloodfang Sword.

I went online and it said I needed to update the game. Like 9 gigabytes. I upgraded and loaded up the same hero I was using.

Now it takes 5 hits to kill a Vulgar Militia Man.

3 hits and poise breaks them, 2 more to finish, and I don't see the explosion of blood.

Before the update I would hit twice and 3rd hit would be the blood explosion and the Militi Man would die.

Clearly something has changed for the worse but I got a strength guy using the Grafted Great Sword I'm going to try out.

I played Dark Souls and Demon Souls games and I always used big swords like claymore or zweinhander. Somehow I got onto Elden Ring and keep trying to build katana users.

I got the Final Fantasy 7 sword. I'm going to beat the game this time. I got back interested in Elden Ring. I was on it till 3am.

I'm building this guy. This sword is even bigger than the Grafted Greatsword. 8 billion years after the events of Elden Ring, Cloud finds this legendary sword and uses it in Final Fantasy 7.

My magic character has a maxed out Moonlight Greatsword, Blade of Astel and Moonveil Katana. I genuinely have a tough time figuring out which is my favorite but it's probably between the Greatsword and the Katana.
But my faith/strength character takes the cake. My faith/dex character is okay but the spear I'm using just doesn't seem to have the punch that BB has

Great all around weapon especially if you're doing any kind of strength build. I think it's Lion's Claw, or some sort of ash of war, that you can put on it to make it obscenely overpowered.
