Can an average gamer pick this up and play it?

I generally don't have hours and hours per day to game but will play for a few hours at the weekend if I'm not working.

It does look incredible.

Currently playing Days Gone ..thanks for the positive recommendation @ a few of you.:)
I would say no. Elden Ring is a pretty challenging game that takes significant time investment.

Yeah, it's an "embrace the grind" type game. But, it rewards you for exploring. You get ragdolled and figure, "Ok, I'm not ready for that yet, lemme go over here and root around." Then you get stronger and better equipped and go back into the fray.

Elden Ring has surpassed 150+ GOTY's won. 151 so far, 28 for God of War.

It has won 78% of all GOTY lists announced to date, far outpacing Breath of the Wild, The Witcher 3 and The Last of Us 2's % when they dominated their respective years. At this point it's competing against history, all the other 2022 games are just spectators.

I know a lot of super casual gamers that love elden ring. I think the average gamer can typically enjoy it at their own pace

Beat Malenia tonight. Not as bad as my first playthrough but still took me 20 or so tries. Actually just been fighting her as a summon for shits and grins. I'm not in a real big hurry to beat it at this point. I mainly just wanted a DLC ready character for when new content comes out.

I want to try do like a DW 2 massive titan weapons (sorry I forget what things are called).

What's the best way to go about it. Don't want to look at a big guide as I want 2nd play through to be fun as I forget a lot of stuff.

GOTY Update:

Elden Ring - 266
God of War - 56
Immortality - 6
Pendiment - 4

Elden Ring has already won more media GOTY's than every game ever made. It has topped 233 media GOTY's beating The Last of Us 2 which had 208 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which had 200.

Elden Ring has won 266 wins out of 358 total awards so far, which is 74%.

To give an idea about how ridiculous and dominating that is, the previous most dominating awards run was held by The Witcher 3 with 58% wins, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with 57%.

Still haven't played too much. Been using my golden effigy to help people out with random stuff.

Sleep pots really make the Godskin Duo fight pretty simple.
My strategy for the Duo was not to bother with the Godskin Noble at all. Neither of them can destroy the pillars in their normal phase, so i would separate them while using the pillars, kill the Apostle and then just wait for him to spawn again. Rince and repeat.
