Secured the Launch edition this morning after giving up on either of the two CEs proper; comes with prelaunch gesture and guide but too art collateral (cards, rune patch, poster, sticker). I'm happy with it. I originally wanted a unique cover edition for the physical media (like the CE artbook's white-golden lion graphic) but that was across the board not an option. I got a special-edition cover back when for Ghost of Tsushima and loved it enough to want the same here. No big. This is the day I got GoT:

That is really is an awesome cover. I'll be on the lookout for some ER Launch Editions as well but I doubt I'll get my hands on one.

I have this game pre-ordered but I do hope it isn't just Dark Souls IV. I'm in the minority but I think that Sekiro is the best game they've made so far. I loved the combat and verticality in that one. To those who played the beta, does this game in any way feel similar to Sekiro?

I would say it floats between BB and DS3 leaning more into the Souls side. It's not as fast as BB but not as slow as DS3. It does have some verticality but not as much as Sekiro. It seems you need your horse to perform anything with exceptional height ranges. But, there could be a class with a grappling hook later on in the game. If you remember, From said that this game will have some fun platforming which I'm looking forward to.

Jo was on point here – thanks, dude. I missed this thread so didn't know until right now the Community was already up to date as I'd posted yesterday elsewhere about it.

Dio, I'd go PS5/Series X personally to excise future concern because responding to the like server-side has never been a first-party strong suit. There's talk over this having outgrowth into Souls, Souls II, and potentially ER, which depends on what if any updates have been made on their game servers and to security practices. With the 5, you get the riches of the DualSense as well as Tempest 3D audio to immerse you fully so I'd ultimately recommend that.
What are you going to be playing on?

Elden Ring Has Been Designed to Reduce Player Stress - Without Reducing Enemy Difficulty

FromSoft had to git gud at balancing the game's stress levels.

A new gameplay overview of Elden Ring has revealed FromSoftware's focus on making sure players aren't overly stressed while playing the game – but seemingly without reducing the difficulty you'd expect from Souls game enemies.

Speaking during Taipei Game Show, producer Yasuhiro Kitao repeatedly explained how elements of the game had been tooled to reduce player stress – in effect making the game difficult in the right places, but gentler in how you reach them.

"With the game's world being so large, that can produce real depth and breadth of enjoyment, but it can also lead to unnecessary stress for some players," explained Kitao. "The dev team has been very careful to avoid that where possible."

Interviewer Misuzu Araki replied: "With battle already being fairly difficult, I can understand wanting to reduce stress elsewhere." Kitao agreed: "Yes, especially as the enemies are so strong."

There's quite a bit to unpack in this article, BTW, from respawning to world traversal. Need to think on whether I like it all or not; don't want to be grumpy man yells at clouds...

I'm happy about it. From what I've seen the game still looks difficult but appears to be much more accessible in terms of in game tutorials and less punishing deaths.

I hope they nerf the magic, it looked way too strong from the beta gameplay that I watched. People were just spamming spells on some of the bosses and it looked cheap. I'm going melee build anyway, it just feels more appropriate for these games.

Doesn't sound like anything I care about so far as long as the bosses and enemies are still tough. The spawning after death sounds improved which is one thing that was never a challenge and more of an annoyance to me. Sekiro was much better at letting you spawn right near a boss and I enjoyed that system much more. DS3 had me using elevators and waiting for a patrol to walk by just to get back to the twin princes and I always thought that was to much.

I have to agree. I think they might respond to the feedback given after the network test

I cannot wait for this, and really hope online play will be like peak DS3. The DS3 days just were so much fun- too many funny memories.
