Multiplat Official DOOM ETERNAL Discussion

Is the Microsoft store worth a shit? I know it’s on Game Pass but I’m not sure I want this tied to a Microsoft account since I’ll have to buy the DLC through there to play on Game Pass.

It's bad but not unmanageable in my experience. I used it for The Outer Worlds and one other game that I can't remember. The store's biggest issue is that everything feels disorganized, but if you know what you're looking for it seems okay.

How did you like Outer Worlds? Thinking of getting it for xbox and would use the xbox store.

Outer Worlds is good but felt like a rush job. Parts of the map you know it's cut off for DLC. It's one of those games you can try to stretch it out or gun it and be done in 2 days. It's Fallout with slightly better shooting mechanics?

Starts off good and then peters out a bit by the end. I recall seeing most of the weapon models early on, and the leveling trees didn't really change the way I played all that much. As a result I think it's one of the weaker rpgs in terms of powering up one's character. I felt like I was just boosting stats.

The writing was good though.

The game files are installed on Steam, but I can't actually buy the DLC yet to unlock access. Anyone who bought the season pass might be able to start already.

I don't want to call it easy because there are still some new mechanics to deal with and the Spirit is still a thing, but it's much better paced. Part of why the last expansion was so rough is that all the encounters felt like a marathon, whereas TAG 2 feels more like the main game. Encounters have fewer waves and don't all feel like Slayer gates. It feel like I have breathing room while playing.

So, uh, there are optional encounters that are sorta preposterous. The first one, which I'm still working through, starts off with 8 of those floating demons, a few of which summon skills, then a mess of Mancubus and Armored Mancubus demons, then 2 Arch-Viles with a whole bunch of adds, and then the part I just died on and am going to take a break from: 2 Cyberdemons and 2 Doom Hunters.

Maybe that will be it, or maybe 4 Marauders!

Lol what difficulty are you playing on?

I feel almost overwhelmed with Kb/M, it’s been a long time since I’ve played an FPS like this lol.

Game runs and looks incredible on the laptop. Getting 120 FPS on Ultra Nightmare settings.

Think once I get my bindings the way I want I’ll be a lot more effective.

I like a mouse with a fair number of bindable buttons. I have grenade, melee, flame belch, and crucible/whatever all bound to my mouse. The only actions I use the keyboard for other than basic movement are dash and jump. For weapon swapping I just focus on 1-4. I have the other weapons bound as well but I use them seldom enough that to get to them I just use the weapon wheel (middle mouse click).

Basically I want movement to be my left hand and actions to be my right hand pretty much like when I use a controller.

What are the specs on your new laptop?

I don’t mind a couple of action buttons on my key board but yeah, I remapped a lot to my mouse and it was much smoother sailings. Made it through my first Slayer Gate just fine, only on Ultraviolence though. It’s really hard breaking my controller tendencies of playing. I keep wanting to lead my crosshairs into something instead of directing them exactly where I want. I also need to work on getting my mouse sensitivity where I want it. I’m playing on a 55” screen so it’s taking some tweaking.

It was pretty good. After TAG 1 (which the Steam forums are saying has been made easier on par with TAG 2) I almost hit a runner's high after finally finishing it. The second expansion isn't nearly as daunting, but that's also probably because anyone who played the first expansion (at least originally) had to become a better player just to get through it.

Unfortunately, the final encounter is a little underwhelming considering the Icon of Sin and Samur fights. Part of what made those previous fights feel monumental was all the enemy activity in addition to the bosses themselves. I don't think every boss fight needs to have hordes of adds, but when the finales of the previous two installments of the game have it the lack is more noticeable and, at the least, needs to be replaced by something to make it an ultimate encounter that lives up to the rest of the game. That's not to say it isn't a tough fight at all, as the last phase gave me a fair bit of trouble; It's just missing spectacle in a way that it shouldn't given who the final boss is.

The lore has been whatever since the main game and that doesn't change here, but who cares?

Just finished TAG 2 (Ultra Violence), I don't feel it was nearly as hard as TAG1, and found the second optional challenge event (which took me like 30 tries to finally beat it) much harder than the 3rd one (which I finished first try) final boss had a major randomness factor than can make each phase easy(ish) or brutally merciless.

Just finished playing through it as well. The final optional encounter was honestly the easiest of them all imo.

The final boss was... not great.

Overall I thought it was ok. I enjoyed the first DLC more though.
