Multiplat Official DOOM ETERNAL Discussion

Played for a bit last night. Yeah, shit started kicking my ass a bit more lol.

Was not expecting the

Possessions

To be so brutal. Adds yet another layer of strategy.

Finally got more time to play today. Think I underestimated this. Since the end of the second level I’ve been getting my ass handed to me.

I’ve found most of it fair, only thing I really wasn’t having fun with was the very end of the second level. Being slowed just made the fight feel like a chore.

Still enjoying it thoroughly.

Yeah, that battle was a bitch. If you thought that was bad though, just wait until the finale!

Just finished, I actually didn’t have as much trouble as that earlier fight. It was a lot more enjoyable as well. Having the move freedom helped a lot.

That ending though. Can’t wait for the next one.

Fantastic so far but I always have to take a bit of a break after playing for a few hours. Figure I’ll finish it tomorrow.

Love the intensity. Throws you into the fire immediately, I’d suggest anyone complete the game once before you start this. Took me a bit but I really started finding my rhythm in the first? Slayer Gate. Not finding it overly hard, very fair for late game fuckery.
I feel like Eternal picked up right where 2016 took off,and was hard in the beggining, and this game did the same with Eternal, even tho you got all the weapons. Tough game. Sometimes sends me packin to play Dead Cells instead ahaha

Just finished the Ancient Gods on UV, and I'd say the first game was significantly easier on Nightmare than this one was on UV... Possessed Demons are horse sh*t nonsense and so is that ghostbusters mechanic to end them. Remove them from the game but keep the higher mob quantities and it would be fine, but spirits totally ruined the perfect harmony of "hard but fair and rewarding" that the base game had. I almost broke my mouse when you have to fight that possessed baron and multiple tyrants/other nonsense.

I have no interest in attempting this on Nightmare or I'll end up with a hole in my wall.

Finished DOOM ETERNAL on Hurt me Plenty via Gamepass. Will eventually buy the game of the year edition for the Ancient God's DLC.

A lot tougher than 2016 but it felt more rewarding with the push forward combat and puzzle shooter mechanics. The frost grenade was nice addition to the Slayers repertoire, over the OP secondary fire of the abomination that was the Plasma Gun in D16 (the electric orb that froze hell knights). Loved the Plasma Gun redesign felt more like the classic, especially the squared off muzzle brake.

"Plinging" Mancubus' and Arachnotron turrets never got old especially with the sweet Heavy Cannon scope. Rarely had use for the micro missiles other than to get the challenge done for it.

Some frustrating bits like the first battle with the Maurader, the Khan Maykr and Icon of Sin battles (had to Sentinel Armour) were not fun and just annoying.

Favourite level was you are tracking down Deag Ranak and it has that sweet ambient synth music. You just felt like a supreme badass.

Just finishing up collectibles and Slayer Gates for achievements then will try 1 up mode.

Well I finally got around to playing The Ancient Gods pt 1. Holy shit what an intense ride that was.

That ending, too. Part 2 is going to be nuts.

Finished the second level. I had the inverse experience of most players in that I thought the boss fight was one of the easier parts of the level, whereas I probably spent 2-3 times as much time on the trial with the Cyberdemons. Something I was surprised to notice is that the game was actually helping me more than I realized. I'm having to play a bit like a bitch (lots of stick and move). That was always the case but it's more emphasized than ever. And while running around like a scaredy-cat I noticed that the game is remarkably generous about spawning fodder off to the side such that the player can escape by using the meat hook.

1 to go, but I'm mostly wondering what the hell they're going to do ramp up the challenge in the next DLC. Maybe replace all the fodder demons with hell knights.

I'm guessing it's because I was playing on Nightmare, but even the final boss felt easier than several of the normal encounters. I wouldn't say that means the bosses were easy, but I'm pretty sure that I spent 10 times longer on some of the encounters than I did on either boss fight (including all the phases of the last boss together). I spent way longer on the first big encounter of The Holt, and also significantly longer on the last big encounter before the final boss. I died a couple of times when I was on the last major enemy and wanted to rip my hair out.

I guess I liked it. By the end It definitely made me wonder how I ever had a hard time with a single doom hunter or basically any single big demon. I dunno about the next DLC though. I might drop it to UV, especially since you don't even unlock anything special for a Nightmare completion.

The bosses have clear pattetns to use on them. Whereas normal encounters, you can find yourself in a hairy situation, especially if you screw up early on and take too much damage

Anyone gonna grab this on the switch? I totally would, but ill wait til price goes down. Not travelling at all kinda kills me using my switch as much as I normally would.

Launching like 9 months late with no DLC at full price makes it hard to justify a double dip on this one. I wonder if we will even see a significant price drop. Isn't Doom 2016 still $60 on Switch?
Edit: It sure is.

:(

Why the fuck are switch games so expensive and never go on sale?

I really dont get it. I am perfectly willing to buy both games if the switch is at a reduced price. I WANT to play it on the switch but I'm not paying 60 bucks twice. The game can be had for almost nothing on the home console now.
