So apparently if you want take part in the new seasons you need to start a new character? Why are they doing that? Who wants to be forced to start a new character every 3 months?
Is it a way maybe for them to long-term manage powercreep?

That is how it is done in D3 as well, it is so everyone starts on an even playing field for the leaderboards

There's supposed to be one more beta test right? Did I miss it? I'm still doing Fire Emblem and Zelda comes out this week. Goddammit I don't have enough time

It's par for the course. They'll have a standard mode as well, I assume. Seasons need to be reset, so it keeps everyone at an even playing field when they're racing to the leader boards. Seasons also have different themes, goals, gameplay elements, etc, so they kind of have to have everyone start fresh.

If it's like D3 though, your seasonal characters can be used in standard mode. They don't get deleted or anything.

not really, it's just tradition/player retention. d2 ladder. poe leagues, etc.

the power creep will likely happen and be awful, because apparently, that's what everyone wants.

Guess this was normal and expected. I didn't get into D3 much except for playing a bit with my wife local coop. I read into more and you can just ignore it and continue playing with your character apparently which I guess they at least give me options but kind of sucks to miss out on the new content.

I don't know. Still getting the game but not sure how much I will like this type of game play loop. I did read one guy say that he didn't think he would like it either but he ended up enjoying it. I guess we will see.

Wait you have to pay to participate in seasons? Or is it you get stuff if you pay? I see $10.00/month and $25.00/month

The seasons are free from what I'm reading. You can pay for the BP but that will just be pure cosmetic stuff from what they said. You don't have to participate in the seasons but you miss out on the rewards and I think the content as well. There's speculation that they will open the seasons content for everyone after the season is over but haven't seen that confirmed yet.

Basically though you can just ignore the season and keep building and playing your character you originally made if you'd like.

Okay good, as long as the premium is only for cosmetic stuff. Maybe Blizz is really set on winning us back after all. I like this

Feels like the Necro was nerfed.

Edit: Yeah it was absolutely gutted. Back to Elden Ring, it’s literally easier and more enjoyable.

I've been enjoying this quite a bit. Was not a fan of D3. If you get the deluxe edition you can start playing four days early. I'm thinking about it, but I rarely have time to game. Decisions, decisions.

That's how it is in PoE, and D3 too if i remember correctly.

Plus in PoE they add new mechanics, events, and other crazy stuff each season. For instance this season/league is Crucible League, and you can get a passive skill tree for your weapons, which could make an already OP weapon even more OP if you could do each season/league on the same character and stack all the crazy ideas on top of your already existing gear.

Seasonal characters keep the playerbase coming back, and they allow for wacky ideas without making things too unbalanced. Plus season character tempt a lot of players to try new builds they haven't tried before or builds that's been changed between seasons.

I mean that’s a good thing though. It was so op last beta it wasn’t even funny

I enjoy the diablo franchise but I'm not a superfan.

QQ: Will I be able to have a satisfactory SP experience without doing all the MP/Group raid nonsense or am I forced to do it to advance the game? Will I be able to play the game start to finish (and replay the game as I want when I want ) without being beholden to a calendar or timed events?

Yes to everything. Except I'm not sure about the MP/group raid stuff.

One of the big devs is a necro player and didn't like what he experienced during the slam, so necro was sorta buffed back up some before the end of the slam.
