No Spoilers Official Black Myth: Wukong Discussion

Was excited for this since the initial reveal trailer but the horrible discourse surrounding this game has sadly made me decide not support it. From censorship issues to lack of transparency to toxic retards saying an 8 out of 10 is terrible and clearly result of wokeness just turned me off. Plus the devs saying streamers can’t talk about feminism to me is an admission they actually did say those shitty things. Just really weird stuff surrounding this game. Thankfully there’s a ton of other awesome games coming

It is CCP policy since like 2018 that girly man are not to be promoted. China is a dictatorship, which means random witch hunts. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that family members of the devs or some employees can be hurt by this western obscure politics bs.

I wonder if China will become a powerhouse in the future for gaming development. They already have extremely popular games right now, but only a few of them

I’ve lived in China for nearly a decade, what they promote and what reality actually is are two very different things. They still love the femboy look. Just look at how they design their male characters in the Hoyoverse. They have female players too and they like that stuff. Not understanding your point about employees though and what that has to do with the West. Every Chinese company has to follow censorship policies. When I worked there as a university teacher , the school sent a text out asking if we are religious. One dude said “yes I’m Christian.” He was never invited back

They probably will be since there won’t be any moral dilemma about using AI so they’ll be able to churn out gorgeous looking games fairly quickly compared to the West.

The CCP is still out there.

This is the most high profile Chinese video game about their fucking Jesus the Monkey King.
The stakes are high.

So why the fuck do western journos want to talk to creators who have follow censorship policies are going back to China?

No offense but are you an ESL learner? I’m having a hard time understanding your posts. Especially that last sentence. Who is going back to China? I’m a little lost

They are going back and living in China therefore what they say to a foreign journo might be used against them.

Going to skip out on this for now. I got Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door and Lies of P on sale, plus I have Astro Bot coming. Not much room for a janky title.

We pinning this or what? Lol. I'm down but would want to have dawgs playing as a prerequisite. Preorders rise up?

I honestly feel heaps are interested but a small part of everyone is expecting some launch-state shenanigans, Chinese overwatch, or game bunk misled by earlier marketing. What the PC benchmark tool delivered was promising, however.

Title's been deemed 'linear' so am expecting a boss rush game with guardrail exploration at best. Combat looks slappy and not Soulsborne, IMO. Very creative stuff baked into the combat though and the new boss phaser by how well one evades, defends, attacks could be really neat. I appreciate the innovations.
I will be picking this up barring PS5 reviews. I understand where some are coming from, but I believe it’s possible to separate the art from the controversies, especially when so many people worked hard to create it.

they are making their own new market cantered around Chinese themes. Similar how they expanded into the west with Bruce Lee and then Crouching Tiger. I think for a while it will be largely Chinese centric games which have their own appeal but their genre reach is limited compared to the west. Monkey King has a good inroad due to Journey to the West, Dragonball Z, and League of Legends.

Another factor is how the hell does China expand into other genres, such as say cyber punk, from a Chinese perspective without exposing their own dystopian reality. It just wouldn't even be fiction. Their story telling skills could also do with a bit of work, since a lot of the plots in these games tend to be disjointed or based souly on historical narrative/mythos.

I like the look of this one but felt burned out yet again when I learned it's another Souls game. Seems like a missed opportunity to really do their own thing.

It has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam right now. I was def expecting launch shenanigans lol.

I'll prob pick this up this week, looks like a lot of fun!

Every review I've seen says this is more like recent God of War than Dark Souls.

Picked this up last night, but it didn't drop until 9pm, and I had an early day. Probably won't get a chance to play for a few days, but looking forward to dumping some time into this.

Thanks for the update, bud. Enjoy and definitely share some first impressions when you can. Reckon a number of dawgs are keen to hear.

With 2.3 million players on Steam I think it’s safe to say they don’t even need the West.

When I looked at Steam a few hours ago, it had about 35k reviews. Sorting by language, only 3k or so were in English. I imagine the rest was largely Mandarin.

They def don't need the west.

You are underplaying the importance of Hong Kong when it came to that.
