PlayStation Official ASTRO BOT Discussion

Slept on this one. Anyone who played it, can you say if there is difficult platforming in this one? The videos I looked at doesn't really show me one way or another. Looks like it would be up my alley, but want some challenging platforming from it though.

I haven't played it from what I understand there are some easy levels and then hard levels\challenges mixed in that are optional.

Seeing mixed takes on this. Hope for the studio it did well for the obvious labor of love it was. Read this today too:

Few days ago Chris Dring tweeted that in the UK Astro Bot sold 70% of what Rift Apart did at launch in physical sales. However, now digital sales are also in it appears #AstroBot sold 21% HIGHER than Rift Apart's debut!

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart sold 1.1m in LESS than a month, 1.6m in a month, 2.7m in a year and 4m in 2 years. According to internal Insomniac documents, it was profitable in its first month!

Astro Bot's development cost is estimated to be SUBSTANTIALLY lower than Rift Apart's, so if sales around the world are anything remotely similar to the UK, Astro Bot is almost certainly already super profitable for #PlayStation. #PS5

Tbh i hope once is all said and done, and before extreme late run price cut, game will reach somewhere between 5M-10M range

Guess the run from today to this xmas will be important

I know game budget would make it great success even at much lower numbers, but modern Sony have so much crap mentality that will take HUGE sales success to make them fix (even just a little) their own general route, because Astro Bot point at very different direction than what Sony's big suits wanted for Playstation, and 10/10 reviews alone will not force them eat that shit back if they can say "see? That stuff does'nt sell!"

Completed first two worlds (each made of bunch of levels)

General difficulty i would say swing between very easy up to medium, but game's soul is not focused on tight level design but rather on the pleasure of the discovery each new level bring... it's ever new ideas, new mechanics and on general an INSANE amount of care to fill levels of nice class touchs that you find exploring around

Possibly on later level difficulty raise too, that's just my experience on early worlds

But one thing i can add is iirc rumor is they will later add to Astro Bot speedruns challenge, and in Astro Playroom the speedruns had some of the most INSANE tight shit i played in 3D platforming, was fun see how my best times would rank in world record/friend list rankings

dude make it look easy, but some of these passages he did are crazy

What the heck? I’ve played Astro’s Playroom numerous times and never come across this Mountain stage. Where’s that found?

How to unlock Run Astro Run!

There are a total of 8 Speed Run challenges and they'll be unlocked after finishing the 4 main levels of the game. You can acces them through the CPU Plaza. Some of them will include the Ball, Rocket, Frog and Monkey suits so make sure you're confortable with using these. You need to complete all of them and have a cumulative total time of 7 minutes or less. It is a very lenient time so don't stress too much about it, just practice the different challenges if you have difficulty and to improve your time.

From Interview

“So we have free DLC. So it’s going to be free. It’s going to come this year,” said Doucet. “It will be small. It’s not going to be like a, you know, huge, huge amount, but it will be focusing on one of the features that people enjoyed in Astro’s Playroom...the speedruns.”

While the levels are quite short in Astro’s Playroom and Astro Bot compared to those in some other platformers, Doucet said people love to optimize and cut seconds as they play stages over and over. So this DLC will embrace that. And it will add “some characters we didn’t include yet” in Astro Bot.

Who might those new cameo bots be? Well, we may already know, thanks to the game’s credits. Don’t keep reading if you want to avoid spoilers.

As reported by VGC, the end credits in Astro Bot contain references to Assassin’s Creed, Beyond Good & Evil, Rayman, Croc, Worms, Stellar Blade, and Rise of the Ronin. No bots from any of these games appear in Astro Bot, even if you’ve played Astro’s Playroom and picked up the bonus characters. So it seems likely that characters from these franchises will be added in the new DLC.

And for those worried that the new DLC will be too focused on challenging speedrun levels, don’t worry, Team Asobi wants to add some less difficult and more fun stuff to the platformer, too. Doucet described this extra, upcoming content as “toy-like” in the interview with Quest Daily.

Finished it last night. 9/10. Absolutely great game. Probably my favorite platformer of all time (or SMB3). Thought it was a 10 for a while but it peaked around halfway through the game and found the later levels disappointingly repetitive compared to most of the game. Easily my GOTY so far, will see if Silent Hill 2 remake can compete.

Rumor is first sales numbers are underwhelming

Seriously i love shit on Sony but problem are people too
Sure part of "people" it's still Sony's fault since they made lot efforts to shape up PS audience in certain direction, but still

Hope they (Sony) do something to promote this game in all possible ways, because if even a Masterpiece like this bomb everybody deserve crap

Sony deserve it, people deserve it too
I think sales will pick up on word of mouth. I had no idea this game would be this good and had zero intention of buying it but had some trade in money and nothing to play so I took a chance and I'm glad I did

Most of the main missions aren’t that difficult in comparison to let’s say cuphead but there are speed run type missions (no checkpoints) that can be pretty frustrating

How does this compare to Astro's playroom? That was a fun little tech demo so I assume this is a full fledged version of that.

much much better

i have platinumed this now, some of the later challenge levels can get pretty difficult and frustrating, certainly not a game the younger audience is going to fully complete

i agree with what another said, its probably the best platformer ever made, it doesnt do anything special or really introduce anything new to the genre, it just does everything so right

astros playroom is an absolute cakewalk compared to some of the levels in this game, it just a fantastic game to play

The levels based on the controller buttons (ie triangle, circle, square, x) can be quite challenging. The one where you have the duck that sprays water onto the lava probably killed me 30 times before I successfully beat it.

The game is awesome, as everybody has already said. I was skeptical of the rave reviews at first but the 10s are well deserved (especially for Playstation enthusiasts), as Astro Bot does basically everything right in my book. Little to no tutorials. Respect for the player's time. Fun to play for all ages. Silly and bright, but also with hints of darkness, if you're so inclined to look. Beautiful, and so confidently smooth that you don't even have an option to change controller settings aside from inversion.

After 13 hours I've rescued all the bots, with many level specific trophies still needed to get the platinum. I was also a bit liberal with my usage of the 200 gold bot for hire, so I'm short several thousands needed to buy all of the gumball machine collectibles. Gotta check out the list of bots because I didn't recognize quite a few, or thought I recognized them but the description didn't make sense. I'm surprised there weren't more cameos from the Final Fantasy universe considering they included some very obscure characters.

Still a 10/10

And for those concerned about difficulty, I can confirm there's a level or two that would make deadshot uninstall at least once

They are the exact ones I mean. Don’t think I’ve done that one yet though

there are a few absolute PITA levels, i dont want to spoil anything but the golden tower level tested my patience

Had no idea this was out, been on an oil rig for 3 weeks, definitely getting this as soon as I'm home

Oh man, I forgot to mention the absolutely BANGIN' sound track in my last post. Seriously good stuff, on par with the likes of FF7R. One of my favourite video game music arrangers uploaded Astro's theme the other day. Sounds like it'll be a tough one to learn:
