Oblivian's Adaptations

Warmup
Jump Rope: 5 minutes
Overhead Squats: 95 lbs x 3 x 3 sets (Long pause at bottom)

Squats (5/3/1 Cycle 2, Week 3)
135 lbs x 8 (warmup)
185 lbs x 5 (warmup)
225 lbs x 5
255 lbs x 3
285 lbs x 4 (+5 lbs PR)

Thickbar Chins
BW x 8
+52.5 lbs x 3 x 3 sets
BW x 12

*That's all I got in. Today will definitely be a day off. The above workout was 3 days of lifting in a row.

Nice chins.

Is grip your limiting factor when using the thickbar?

No, it's my pussy chin strength! It does work your grip, but that isn't what holds me back. If I went to do the same weight on a normal bar, I'd be lucky to squeeze out one more rep. I'd say on a 1RM, I may be able to get 5 lbs more with a regular bar.

I started doing these thickbar chins when I bought my new house. We have a clothesline that has the bar. I measured it's diameter and it's a little more than 3". It doesn't sound like much, but it's tough at first.

when black people get married they jump over a broom - not sure what the historical significance is. I only know this because when we were meeting with the rabbi for our wedding (my wife is a joo), I asked if we got to jump over the broom and he stared at me for like a minute to see if I was kidding before telling me it was a black thing

I've never heard that phrase. I had no clue wtf he was talking about. I kept thinking it was some slang for a lift I did. I'm not very hip.

Awesome-a real life facepalm moment :)

Warmup
Bas Rutten Cd's: Three 2 min rounds Boxing
Jump Rope: 5 minutes
Hang Cleans: 135 lbs x 3 x 3 sets

SOHP (5/3/1 Cycle 2 DELOAD)
105 lbs x 5
110 lbs x 5
120 lbs x 5

Front Squat
135 lbs x 8 (warmup)
205 lbs x 5
225 lbs x 5
245 lbs x 3
265 lbs x 2 (see notes)
265 lbs x 1
*I wanted 3 on the 265 lbs set. After the 2nd one, I didn't even try a third. I have a feeling I would have failed or that the form would have been terrible. I'm going to jump the weight up to 275 lbs next week for a single the first week. If I get a double the following week, I'll go for 295 lbs.

Thickbar Pullups
BW x 12
BW x 10
BW x 7
BW x 9
BW x 7
BW x 5
*My goal is to get 50 in 5 sets w/ typical rest periods. My arms fry out after the first 2 sets. I'm thinking I need to do 2 sets of 12, a "cool down" set of 6, and try to bang out two sets of 10.

Heavy Bag (Swinging)
Five 3 minute rounds
*This was out in the garage in mid afternoon. The temp outside was in the mid-90s, so I'm sure it was 100+ in the garage. Fucking brutal. This is actually a brand new bag that I picked up at a garage sale. It's only 70 lbs and a TKO bag. It swings a lot more and is fun to use. I'll switch between this and the 100 lbs bag.

Pinch Grips
Three 10's x 5 (each hand)
Two 35's x 3 (both hands)
Four 10's x 1/2 rep/fail + negatives

Wrist Roller
25 lbs x forward then back
35 lbs x back then forward x 2 sets
*This was in the garage and my hands were VERY slippery from sweat.

Hex Dumbbell Claw Hold
20 lbs x 10-20 second hold x 3 sets

Grippers
Trainer x 10 w/ very long hold on 10th
CoC #1 x 15 (PR)
Coc #1.5 x 8 (PR?)

1.75 mile run
Average pace. Nothing special. It was hot.

Static Stretch
15 minutes

Sore as shit after yesterday. Decided to take today off. I ended up doing quite a bit of yardwork though. I'm also going to skateboard tonight. It should serve as active rest and I'll be back at it tomorrow. Vacation starts Wednesday!

Even with chins and pull ups sort of being "my thing," if I go to failure on the first set, I'm toast. I can accumulate volume much faster if I stay couple reps below failure on the early sets.

135 lbs x 3
155 lbs x 3
175 lbs x 2
