Oblivian's Adaptations

I got engaged last night so we took the night off. It was probably a good idea since today is a 5x5 back squat PR attempt and I plan on doing the 100 burpee challenge later in the evening. Friday will be another day off because we are babysitting my niece and nephew. He's got a pullup bar so I may fit some work in.

Haha you say it like it was something that "happened" to you...

Congrats.

Thanks. I really just did it because I wanted a day off.....just kidding. I always halfway joked and said we would get engaged when I deadlifted 500 lbs and married when I deadlifted 550 lbs. She was shocked when I proposed because she knew I hadn't deadlifted 500 yet! We've lived together over 3 years now and bought a house together, so not much changes.

Congrats man! how long you known the girl?

Let's see. It's going on 4 years now. I guess you could say we were acquaintances before that though. We hit it off pretty well and started living together pretty quickly. We've been through quite a bit as she stuck through my heavy drinking. We lived in a studio together with a dog and cat over at Purdue. We even temporarily lived with my parents when we moved back to my hometown. We bought a house together a little over 6 months ago.

We probably should have been engaged a while ago, but my line of thinking is that once you get engaged, people push you to get married. Once you get married, people push you to have kids. I definitely want kids, but not for a little while. I probably won't get married until early next year or spring of next year. We aren't having a wedding either. We have become pretty low-key.

Congratulations! Get her training and when y'all tie the knot, you can tandem deadlift 800 on the alter!

Wow, thanks for all of the responses. I didn't realize this many people read my log!

On a sidenote, #1Indian baited me into an internet pissing contest. He decided to bet me accounts that he can bench press twice as much weight as me and deadlift 100 lbs more than me. Yes, I'm serious....

Warmup
Jump Rope: 5 minutes
Overhead Squats: 95 lbs x 3 x 3 sets

Back Squats
135 lbs x 5 (warmup)
245 lbs x 5 x 5 sets

Complex: Power Cleans to Push Press to Front Squat
155 lbs x 5 x 3 sets
*Brutal. This was the last week of this complex, and I'm glad to be done with it.

Pullups
BW x 8
+30 lbs x 3 x 3 sets
BW x 8

100 Burpee Challenge (later in the evening)
8 min 30 seconds
*Definitely not my best time, but not bad for after the other work I did that day. My lungs weren't burning that bad, but my muscle endurance was hurting.

Core/Stretch
V-ups: 10 x 3 sets
Toe Touches: 10 x 3 sets
Sprinters: 10 x 3 sets
Hip Thrusters: 10 x 3 sets

Static Stretch: 15 minutes

Don't worry about the pressures man, You two need to live your lives. I got married last year after 8 years of being together, despite everybody pushing for us to get hitched (except her folks). Taking our time has been the best thing for us.

No wedding? that's different - Just getting some JOP to sign the papers?

She has never wanted a wedding. I would be ok with one, but I do think they can be a bit expensive if you don't really want to have one. The money really isn't a problem with her parents, but it's just silly to spend that money on something that you don't really want. Her mom also said we get a large gift of money if we don't have a wedding. Apparently they have money set aside for both of their daughter's weddings, and if we don't use it we get it. That sounds bad, but trust me, it's not the motivation for no wedding.

We will just go to the courthouse and get it done. There is a chance that we may do it another way like a really small ceremony, but I doubt it. We have become pretty low-key. We'll definitely have some sort of "after party" with family and friends. It should be interesting since I don't drink anymore and have sort of grown up while most of my friends are still partying hard.

Congrats on the engagement.

I'm pretty much positive #1Indian will not be posting a video, ever.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure he won't, but I'm absolutely positive it will not be one of him benching twice what I do. I'm so spiteful that I'll focus on my bench up until then..haha. Your entire post was my argument the whole time. Luba and #1Indian were only hearing what they wanted to hear. I was actually a lot more tolerant of P90x than a lot of people would have been..haha.
