Oblivian's Adaptations

congratulations on the engagement -

in retrospect, our big wedding was a waste of money, you're making a good call. You might really enjoy just having a little ceremony at a park on in your yard like you said. Throw in family, close friends, and you can probably get it done for under $500 bucks. If nothing else, I bet you'd like the pictures. Either way congratulations. As much fun as it is to complain about being married, it's honestly great.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure he won't, but I'm absolutely positive it will not be one of him benching twice what I do. I'm so spiteful that I'll focus on my bench up until then..haha. Your entire post was my argument the whole time. Luba and #1Indian were only hearing what they wanted to hear. I was actually a lot more tolerant of P90x than a lot of people would have been..haha.

Yeah I went through the thread and got the gist of what you were trying to say. It was reasonable and people deliberately misconstrued your statements, probably because that have this notion that us S&P posters have a "holier than thou" attitude towards training, when that simply isn't the case. We're pretty tolerant people and in my opinion, you have the moral high ground in that argument.

People just like to argue, I think.

Yesterday I babysat my niece and nephew, so it was an off day. I did get a few sets of pullups, chinups, and pushups in at while babysitting though. I didn't realize I left their door to the garage open, so their indoor cat snuck out and must have went out their cat door in the garage. We couldn't find him. I'm the worst babysitter ever.

Thanks - I'll consider that. The bolded statement had me laughing.

i wasn't trying to butt in or anything, but you had mentioned maybe doing a small thing, and I just was agreeing with you. My wedding could have been a down payment on a house...

I think this may be a case of things not translating well over a forum. I wasn't busting balls or anything - I was literally saying thanks for the input. My coworkers actually were talking to me about doing some sort of small ceremony type thing. I don't know how you took my response, but I wasn't mocking you whatsoever. I was literally saying thanks for the perspective. I thought the last statement that I bolded about guys complaining about being married was meant to be humorous.

We are sort of in limbo about what to do. We don't really want to have any sort of ceremony, but we are tempted to have some sort of small thing for the photos like you mentioned just in case we feel differently later.

my bad, my sarcasm meter must be overcalibrated.

i read your log but dont think ive ever commented in it so i just thought you were doing a "who the hell is this guy" thing. the last statement was meant as a joke. if you've got a good woman, and it sounds like you do, being married is fun. granted ive only been married for 2 years but we've been together for 9. since you live together, not a whole lot will probably change.

nice overhead work, too by the way. I am trying to figure out the best way to work it in more than once a week. I'm going to take a video either this week or next so that I have at least somethign to count even if I dont get huge gains. the ten reps are freakin hard

I'm redoing my routine. I think I have heavy singles, doubles, and triples one day and a couple warm up sets into a 10RM attempt another day. Each time I hit a new PR, I'll increase 5 lbs and attempt the 10RM the following week(s) until I get it. Hopefully that works out for me.

Yesterday was sort of a day off. I did a shit load of yard work that would probably classify as active recovery. We laid down 25 bags of mulch, so I did quite a bit of carrying. The bags were wet so they were pretty heavy. I mowed the lawn and pulled a ton of weeds. This weekend went by way too fast. I'm definitely lifting tonight and going for some PRs this week.

A co worker of mine spent just under 90k on his wedding. He got married probably 8 years ago and still doesn't even make that much per year and now lives with his in laws.

In short, good job on the small wedding Oblivian, very good idea.

Do you want to race to 1200lb total?? You are at 1035 and I'm at 1005 so it's a fair start. (I might be at 1025 by the end of this week)

Ya, I'm down for that. I figure my back squat should go up pretty quickly, but I don't see huge gains in my bench or deadlift. I'll be retesting bench and squat this week, but not deadlift. I took a little over a month break from deadlift due to being burnt out on it. This should be fun.

I did not want to lift at all yesterday. I've been having motivation issues. I'm not too worried because I often get like this at the end of a routine, and this was literally the last day of my routine. I ended up cutting the workout short after I failed on front squats because I was not into it. I felt guilty, so I did some core work and stretching which I actually enjoyed.

Warmup
Jump Rope: 5 minutes
Overhead Squats: 95 lbs x 3 x 3 sets (long pause)

Push Press - 10RM attempt
135 lbs x 5 (warmup)
155 lbs x 5 (speed)
180 lbs x 10 (+5 lbs PR)

Front Squats
135 lbs x 5 (warmup)
225 lbs x 5 x 2 sets
225 lbs x 4 (fail on 5)
*I called it quits here. I'm surprised I got 2 sets with the little motivation I had.

Ab Wheel/Stretch
Ab Wheel: 5 sets of 10 (first 5 reps standing, last 5 reps from knees)
Static Stretch: 20 minutes

Warmup
1 mile jog

Sprint Intervals
75 yard sprints w/ 15 second rest x 10
*I didn't want to go all out. I have a 1RM attempt at back squats tomorrow and I wanted to save myself for the conditioning challenge.

Random Bodyweight Stuff at Playground
Dips: BW x 10
Rings Pullups: BW x 10
One hand chins: BW x 3 on each side
*This was directly after sprints. After I finished the one hand chins, a parent with some kids showed up. I left because I didn't want to be "that guy".

May Conditioning Challenge Fail
Attempt at max reps of hang cleans to press in 3 minutes at 1/2 bodyweight. My bodyweight is now 179 lbs so I used 90 lbs. I got in 33 reps, but I couldn't hold onto the bar anymore. I made the rule that you had to hold onto the bar for all 3 minutes even if you gas earlier. My own rule screwed me! I videoed it, but the file is too large. If I figure out how to condense it, I'll post it.

Static Stretch
15 minutes

great effort on the push press.

Thanks. This contest has been brutal on my shoulders so far.

Speaking of which, I got the conditioning challenge video to upload. I had to use a trial version of a converter, so it has an annoying tag. Here is the failure...I was so close to finishing.
