Just saw it. Not gonna lie, kinda boring.
It feels like that's what this guy is good at. Wasn't this the complaint about The Northman as well? I only see one or two movies a year because my child is young and keeps me busy. Think I'll see Sonic 3 instead lol

not as good as The Witch & The Lighthouse, but still very very good. it’s super dark & spooky w/ great performances all around—Bill Skarsgård is legit unrecognizable.

Like his films, but they all definitely ride that line between "films you admire" and "films you enjoy". Bit like David Lynch and even he reigned it in when it was called for.

Not been to the cinema in ages.....might go for this one.

I enjoyed it bit can see people that arent into horror not being thoroughly entertained. It was also a romance as much as it was a horror. That being said I thought it was incredible. Best horror of 2024 for me, and its been an amazing year for the genre.

I think Eggers did his homework on the occult and the realism attempted succeeded, imo, in so far as its possible with a vampire movie. Some scenes were pretty disturbing, though, overall the way this was shot was beautiful. All the actors smoked this imo, maybe the exception being the dude from kick ass, with Dafoe and Depp as the standouts.

My only critique off the top of my head would be, I dont know what Orlock is supposed to be like, but in this, his logic and intelligence for a vampire is questionable to me. Especially in regards to the ending. Even with that I quite liked the ending. Overall you should see this in theatres, if only to enjoy the atmosphere it creates.

Along with great reviews comes the obvious disappointment, lr depp is becoming quite the star.

That’s pretty bad. They always start high and go way lower. Probably going to end up 7 or 6.9 in a month or two. I was looking forward to a horror film but I heard it’s boring and the villain is comically stupid looking
Its a good horror film, what other horrors have you liked this year?

I haven’t seen any others but I hates the Northman and other people are commenting that this is boring too. Starting to think maybe the director just ain’t for me. What others were good this year?

The Witch was great. Northman was pretty good. I've never actually sat down and watched the Lighthouse. I've seen bits and pieces of it.

This looks promising.

I havent seen The Northman, so I cant say if it's similar to that. I personally didnt find it boring, but I will say its not the most complicated narrative. It felt tense from the opening scene. Doesnt start slow, and is visually incredible throughout. My favorite horrors this year were The First Omen, Longlegs, Oddity and Late night with the devil. Im not really a slasher guy so we might have different tastes.

This is definitely the best theatre experience for a Horror this year, too.

Yeah it's going to probably end up in the low 7s or high 6s. True dat.

I’m not into slashers either. It’s gross but not scary. I’m more into Lovecraftian type horror, fear of the unknown type thing. In fact I think one of the reasons I watch less horror films these days is because imo video games have evolved so much that I now feel way more unsettled playing those. I got done with silent hill 2 remake recently and that make me feel more nervous than my horror movie in recent memory. Then there’s VR which I much purchased just to play horror games. I think lighthouse is from the same director and I heard it’s inspired by lovecraft themes so I might have to check that out first.

6.9 seems accurate given that the trailer makes him out to be some sex craved lunatic. I’ve honestly never seen the OG either. Was it always about sexual insecurity? I’m getting that vibe from the trailer. Especially the line about fear of not being able to please in bed
