Yes, he was a socialist and spoke and wrote about these views. Some of the biggest villains in history were socialists. Just know there were many different flavors of socialism and the different schools of thought despised eachother. Marxism and National Socialism are two different flavors.

liberals believe in individual rights and freedoms and want to state to protect those rights and freedoms even if they themselves disagree with it.
