No Limit Hold 'Em Poker Discussion

......always find the main event just about the least interesting event to follow, tbh. I see a couple of big potential stories are eerging this year with Mizrachi and the lady.

Pretty surprising to hear she's the first female to reach the final table of the main for 30 years.
I'm not really a fan of watching live poker in general, simply because you never have any of the context of what happened on previous hands or table images or previous history between players etc to gauge what the correct plays are.

But I'm sure Will Kassouf brought in the views with his constant speech play and stalling tactics while insulting every single table he played on.

Casuals, yeah. No interest really, personally.

When it’s largely all unknowns hard to get excited, imo.

Used to like the high stakes cash shows, but now it’s 90% crooked Asian “businessmen” flipping coins for millions.

Pretty sure even now the entire industry is a big hustle and largely only attracts pond scum and suckers.

Looks like the grinder is going to pull out the win. Wasnock kind of got fucked being behind the giant chip stack with such huge ICM decisions to make down the stretch.

I enjoy some of the vloggers like Brad Owen

He gives thoughts, table image, previous history.

So I guess I can just discuss this here.

My site, Global Poker, is pulling out of my state. On August 15th I will no longer be able to play there.

There's been a lot of new things going on.

WPT Gold just invested millions upon millions of dollars in guarantees, promotion, marketing, etc etc and they've only been around 6 months and are also already having to pull out of states.

Online Poker in the US is dying. Fuck man I'm going to have to sign up to some shady ass European site and play with nits from Belarus or some shit. I'm so excited. /s

I play on global also. Im glad they are not pulling out of my state, at least so far. The only thing I could think of for you would be Betonline.ag , they have 2-3k players online at peak times. It's the only site I can think of where there are still soft games/tourneys.

I do actually already have money on betonline.ag but on the bet side and pulled up the poker side like a week ago and I think I saw like 15-20 people online. I need to go re-check during peak times and see what it looks like.

I think Bovada/Ignition is still around, but anonymous tables come with their own sets of problems.

4 card Omaha 2/2 extremely deep stacked (everyone involved had 3000+)

I have 7d 7c Kd Ac in middle position

With straddles a preflop action was like 300 in the pot pre, 3 ways.

Flop came 6d 7h 8c. First guy checked. I bet 160. Call. Call.

Turn was 6h. First guy checked. I bet 280. Call. Call.

River was 8c. First guy checked. I bet 750. Third guy called. First guy went all-in for about 2800 effective.

What'd you do? Literally about the weirdest spot I've ever found myself in.

You should have checked after the first guy. 3rd guy would have most likely checked too.

Nope. Clear river bet. Was a while back, but pretty sure I should just be bet calling.

Lost another huge pot at 2/5 Omaha last night

3 way to a flop with QdQhAd5h4c

Had about 65% of stack in after the flop of Qd 2d 5c, heads up.

Turn was 3h. Guy shoved for about 1800. I snap......he had 2 2 4 4 6.

Obviously bricked.

Only play PLO in tournaments never cash. MOST expensive game I ever played . Every street almost someone yells pot . You win a hand its great as it alwaya a big pot but its not a game for nits like me.

Online poker has been going strong in Europe for many years. Nothing shady here if you stick to the well known companies. But maybe you have to jump through different hoops to be able to play as a US citizen which lands you in some weird small site?

That's pretty much the major problem. I can circumvent this, but with a few extra steps than what I'm currently accustomed too.

But here's the big kicker, I won't be able to play at "major" sites where recreational and bad players sign up to play. I'm going to have to play more difficult and obscure sites where good players play and margins are thinner.

I used to grind Bovada/Ignition and did pretty well doing so. But these sites have their own problems. The player base is anonymous. This has benefits and downsides but the downsides are fucking massive. It's super easy for a site to install superusers or bots. All of your opponents on every table are anonymous. You have no idea if you're playing Daniel Negreanu, the average Joe (unlikely), a house bot, or being set up in certain spots by the site itself.

.........................................................................................................

I can go play live, but this also has it's own inherent problems. The nearest casino is over an hour away. The play is slow, you can't put in tons of volume, and you actually have to sit with people who might haven't showered in days and eat fish at the table getting grease all over the cards and chips. The great thing here though is the players generally suck and the casino inherently encourages them to get plastered.

Fuck I can rant on this shit all day please don't get me started. <lmao>

I'll figure something out. I'm weighing my options. I'm responsible enough, and can afford my expenses for quite a while before I need to start worrying.

Why do the obscure sites have good players? Why aren't those good players on the major sites where there's more recreational fuckheads? I understand the anonymity problem though, bots, etc.

And yeah live play is a slog. It's fun and exciting as something "exotic" to do once in a while but to do only do that? Fuck me. Playing online poker is time consuming enough already, lol.

I have never had your problem so the solutions popping into my head have undoubtedly already popped into yours, especially the first ones I can think of but anyways.. if you've got really good friends or family living in Europe you could potentially do it that way and play in their name. That's how I got started playing online before I was 18, got someone who was 18 to open an account for me to play in. This was back in the early 00s.

I guess I can't actually confirm this except with my own anecdotal experiences. The idea is that recreational players are just going to sign up to a major site, and won't spend time looking for more unknown sites with lower quality marketing teams. Also, there's probably more people like me in the US who are having to do something similar which is going to raise the quality of play.

Game selection (in this case site selection) is a huge part of being profitable in poker. I'll use an MMA analogy. Let's say you're Dricus Du Plessis. You would much rather fight the Bo Nickals of the world instead of the Khamzat Chimaevs to make your money if given the choice.

Fuuuuck this legislation in the US. Nevada, New Jersey, and New York have been pulling out of states. Then some smaller states like LA, MS, CN are also pulling out. But the major major one, is California, and I think there's legislation right now in the process to either soon be passed or it's just a matter of time. Once California goes down, it's all over for any legit poker site currently running in the United States.

I've thought about moving to Vegas for the last couple years. I've also considered Europe. I can see myself posted up in Spain or Italy.

I was completely out of the loop of the situation in the US so the first time I heard it was illegal I was completely shocked. Like..what?? In the land of free?? Can't play some fucking online poker?? Ridiculous.

Oh! Well let me break this shit down a little bit for you.

This is underhanded as fuck.

Casinos and game based operators have lobbied and poured money into getting legislation passed to eliminate their competition. The competition in this case, is online poker. These sites are cutting into their revenues. Gambling is also a source for tax based revenue for different states. Off-shore sites that operate in the US are cutting into their money.

Yeah I didn't have to think for more than a second to understand the reason behind it, lol. Still fucking ridiculous!

For being the freedom country it's pretty fucking weird.. Can't play online poker.. can't go to the pub if you're 18.. can't drink alcohol in the car as a passenger.. You guys did great with the weed tho.

I played BOL years ago and it was a Hassel getting a cash out . But BOL always has lots of fish traffic. I heard the poker tables there are still decent though.

Playing my first big tourney on a while next week. ...... I won a seat to a 3k . Its a 1.5 rebuy till level 12. Im not rebuying at 1500 a pop lol. Im thinking im a playing with people ALOT better than me .

I was planning the ole nit strategy but that seems to not go well in these.

Any strategy yall who are regulars would employ when you know your likely the fish at the table for one of these?
