Nintendo Nintendo Megathread, v.6: Switch 2 Edition

Also, Nintendo is supposed to be for kids. I mean, anyone can play it and have fun, but it's the primary "kid" console. I'm in Canada where it's gonna be closer to like 600-$700. Imagine paying that, plus another $100 to purchase a video game for your kids, and this is before all the bells and whistles.

If it genuinely costs that much to produce that's fine, but I feel like they are pricing out their own fan base.
I am hoping this leads to a similar situation the 3DS put them in and they are forced to lower their prices, but I'm not holding my breath. I imagine most parents would rather just hand their kids a tablet than shell out a grand+ to keep them entertained

Yep $700 for the console with Mario Kart at least controllers and joy cons also work on the switch 2. Then $100 Cad for games.

I don't even mind paying $700 for the console. It's paying $100-$120 per title that really bothers me.

Like who's paying that shit?

I think you'd be surprised. It's not like gamers don't already pay stupid amounts of money for a lot of games. Those Day 1 "ultimate editions" go for about that. Not to mention the money people will spend on microtransactions on top of the retail price. You got scores of people out there spending thousands of dollars on one sports game or one online shooter.

Gamers are the easiest market to fleece. A lot of bark, no bite. Unless there's a tranny in the game or something. Then they mean business! Skull fucking your wallet? Meh.

And Nintendo fans are the most cultish of them all so you're probably right.

I can't help but feel if they lowered the price just a smidge, people would be inclined to spend more on the games over the consoles lifespan. But Nintendo has big dick energy and can do what ever it wants..

It's not just the games. They've reached a point where they've decided their fanbase will just eat the shittiest hardware value in the world because of "art style" or something something.

Damn, they couldn’t even give us 16GB of VRAM

Economy must be hurting

And unlike the other two companies, Nintendo rarely offers deep discounts on anything. They got 10 year old indie games going for like $19.99 at all times, when you can get them for two or three bucks on the other consoles in any given month. Then you've got older 8th gen games getting frankenstein'd onto the technically handicapped Switch, that play like shit and retail at full price, when you could just get the better version on the other consoles for $10-$20.

Nintendo is fucking insane, but luckily for them, so is their fan base.

What were people expecting from a closed system?

wonder how the mouse feature will be, i imagine some 3rd party hardware company will make an attachment for it to make it more comfortable
At the moment, this is actually what I am most curious about. Is it actually going to be smooth and accurate, or just a silly gimmick?

it will make playing RTS games a breeze for sure...but it looks like it will cramp up the hand after 15 mins of use, hahaha

You know, right now on Switch, there is the voucher system where you can buy two digital games at $100. I wonder if there will be a similar program for Switch 2. I fucking hope so.

The shittier the hardware the easier to emulate though.

<seedat>
It is a silver lining for the master race. *shrug*

I should add the disclaimer the specifications I shared aren't officially confirmed as the chipset and the RAM were the only specs not disclosed. But everything else was consistent with the leaks. I'm assuming they delayed officially releasing them because they know how unimpressive they are. They didn't want "5 year old hardware on the day of release" to be a potential headline. This deprives journalists of that.

Apparently there will be a cheaper Switch 2 system for the domestic Japanese market and running one 330 USD. This system will be region-locked; the other Switch 2 system will be ex-Japan and cost what was revealed yesterday.

Nintendo must be switching back to making money off of everything.
Up until the Wii U, Nintendo made money off of every console sold. The Wii U was the first time Nintendo sold their consoles at a loss, like Microsoft and Sony do.

Damn that means they are adjusting the price probably. Probably going to have a 600 to 700 dollar switch. I doubt Nintendo will sell at a huge loss
This is what Jeff was saying. And it’s very Nintendo.

I was really excited about the features I was seeing, then there was that From Soft game, Pavlovian drool.

It looked like a sci-fi Bloodborne, with PS4 fidelity, which I'm fine with, so long as it was a return to their smaller/metroidvania-like layout.

A Nintendo console with 4k, HDR, 120 FPS at 1080p, 60 FPS at 4K, and an improved/larger screen, being 1080p also with HDR support... My lord.

Then there was a the price of the system and titles. Learning that the Fromsoft game was another MP offering...

I'm sure the console will come down in price, but the standard they are trying to set with game prices is bullshit.
Sidebar here but this Kanye GIF is hilarious to me. Never seen before. Genuine happiness to genuine disgust without a moment of intervening emotion. Hardcore.

This isn’t on Nintendo this time. These tariffs are retarded. Vietnam is working out something so maybe the price will stick to 450 but this never should have happened. Criticize the software prices all you want because they deserve that but if the hardware does go up to 600 then America is to blame. Sucks saying that but it’s true.
