Nintendo Nintendo Megathread, v.6: Switch 2 Edition

I was really excited about the features I was seeing, then there was that From Soft game, Pavlovian drool.

It looked like a sci-fi Bloodborne, with PS4 fidelity, which I'm fine with, so long as it was a return to their smaller/metroidvania-like layout.

A Nintendo console with 4k, HDR, 120 FPS at 1080p, 60 FPS at 4K, and an improved/larger screen, being 1080p also with HDR support... My lord.

Then there was a the price of the system and titles. Learning that the Fromsoft game was another MP offering...

I'm sure the console will come down in price, but the standard they are trying to set with game prices is bullshit.

Mario kart world $80 usd digital $90 for physical?

DK Bananza $70/$80
<WhitmanDefeat>

Expect updates to switch 2 versions be $20.
Greedy motherfuckers trying to capitalize on GTA 6, and hoping GTA 6 will come out at $100+ so they can start selling their games at $80-$90.

<DisgustingHHH>

Nintendo has already been royally fucking us over with overpriced, never-discounted physical games for eons now. It's fitting that they of all companies would be the ones to pioneer the $80 video game.

The worst part about it is you know Sony and MS are going to do the same now. If not this gen then at the start of the next one. I forget who started the extra $10 this gen (Sony maybe?) but everyone pretty much quickly followed right along.
Yeah, it is ridiculous. The big 3rd party assholes started it, and like dominos, everyonne is falling in line

If you already have a ps5 you already have a top editor console, you mainly by a switch for their first party lineups...the marios, kirby and zelda....now there's just too much elden rings...remasters of cyberpunk....if you have a ps4-5 you already played these games.

It's not just the games. They've reached a point where they've decided their fanbase will just eat the shittiest hardware value in the world because of "art style" or something something.

*Edit* July-2025 Update. We now know the official specs of the Nintendo Switch 2. Contrary to what you'll see listed on Techpowerups database page, the true boost clock is nowhere close to 1400 MHz in docked mode, but actually only 1007 MHz. We know this because the Nintendo shared the official specs including the downthrottled TFLOPS. So many figures you see on that TPU Database page are wrong. We are also able to extrapolate the RAM is downclocked from 6400MHz to 4266 MHz in the portable mode. In addition to this, since I made this post, we learned the specifications for the upcoming ASUS ROG Xbox Ally units. Finally, since we've seen some jackasses in the news claim the Switch 2 is as powerful as the Xbox Series S, I decided to add this to the docked mode comparison. I also switched out the PS5 for the PS5 Pro so everyone has a sense of what the ceiling for console performance is right now.

Only reason I would buy a Switch 2 is if the Duskbloods turns out to be great, pretty much the same reason I bought a PS4 except for Bloodborne. If it isn't great, I am comfortable just emulating stuff on my PC (which will likely have better performance anyway). The majority of the fun in gaming is to be found in the indie space anyway, no sweat off my back if a console and its AAA games turn out to not be good

Finally caught up with all of the news. Really sad to see this with Nintendo but it's not surprising. TBH, I hardly ever played my Switch and when I did it was on travel. Never at home as a standalone.

My little man just turned 4 so by the time Switch 3 rolls around, I'm sure he'll be more into gaming.

Will more than likely be skipping this gen and will probably wait for whatever the next Steam Deck will be.

Oh boy, looking at these tariffs and this might be the least of our problems. Everything is going to skyrocket soon. We're in for some tough times. If you don't have the money then don't go anywhere near this. Start saving.

On a side note, really ticked off I gave away Kirby and The Forgotten Land. Game is already priced on BestBuy at 79.99. WTF, I don't want to buy it again for that price. Probably going to just stick to my PS5 Pro.

I would say just way for the games to get discounted but that never happens under Nintendo. It will be interesting to see if this backfires. They just set the market for the other consoles though so everyone’s wallets about to get fucked.

The shittier the hardware the easier to emulate though.

I really do love Nintendo but these prices are fucked.

How are they arriving at these prices? Like what exactly makes a game worth it's price?

Technically these prices roughly scale with inflation, which wouldn't be an issue if wages had also scaled with it too. It really comes off as tone deaf considering everyone's budget is pretty tight right now and one of gaming's most attractive qualities for so long has been its relatively low barrier to entry.

Also, Nintendo is supposed to be for kids. I mean, anyone can play it and have fun, but it's the primary "kid" console. I'm in Canada where it's gonna be closer to like 600-$700. Imagine paying that, plus another $100 to purchase a video game for your kids, and this is before all the bells and whistles.

If it genuinely costs that much to produce that's fine, but I feel like they are pricing out their own fan base.
