NHL Regular Season Discussion: Sharks Pls

i usually agree with the sentiments RE Eklund - but having to levy Teuvo just to rid Bickell does not fit Stan's MO whatsoever - could easily just buyout Bickell and eat the 1.5 mill in 2018. Its all contingent on whether or not Malkin wants to leave and where he'd be willing to get traded to. Add the expansion would should see Chi losing roster payables, the cap escalator and chicago having solid young prospects to trade and its not out of the realm of possibility.
Well you got picks back, the Blackhawks needed to replenish their picks. Its also possible that they didn't see Teuvo being the franchise player many predicted he would be. He's still young and has had flashes, but I'm sure they could have soured on him a little bit. Looked outmatched in the St Louis series.

He was already going to get expensive for the production he was giving them, his next season would have been like 2.5M as a RFA or something? Artem fill the void at #2C, probably another reason he was expendable

2nd and 3rd for a young Teuvo still seems like a weird levy. You could easily keep him until '18 and give him 2 more seasons to fill out and see what he has. Hell, if it was about picks - toronto would probably give the 30th or 31st for him + a higher 3rd.

Again, i dont value Eklund a lot of the times but this seems extremely odd for Bowman move - Chicago will be buyers at the draft IMO. Maybe not Malkin - but again, its whether or not he wants out and where he would want to go.

They had to package him because it's the only way they could get rid of Bickell.

Even if the players use the escalator the cap rise will be minimal. If they don't, it'll actually go down.

Hawks would have to dump Seabrook, and more if they want to afford someone like Malkin.

I'll happily bet my life savings against Malkin getting traded to Chicago who doesn't even own a first round pick. Hawks didn't have the depth this year so they are going to try and get more top heavy?

i take it all of the jared cowen discussion is in its own thread?

"This is the word. The talk here is that both sides feel the time to move on has come. It's a business decision for the Pens and Malkin himself needs to get to a situation where he can be "the guy." The difficulty here is that Malkin controls where he can go and has the ability to limit the possible destinations and according to a source "the places in which he has shown interest so far are all in big cap trouble." So this will take creativity. I am hearing the Kings, the Wild, and Chicago are the early favorites...I don't believe the Penguins want to move him to the East... This will get interesting though and my sources say he may open up to other possibilities and the "Penguins will talk to anyone who is interested" and then try and convince Geno...

Even if a deal can't get done this WILL be the buzz at the Draft. I guarantee that."

"The Blackhawks have traded Bickell and Teravainen to Carolina in a HUGE move to free up Cap space...The Hawks NEVER get Cap space without a reason... I am told that one of the teams Malkin would accept a trade to is....Chicago...

The Plot thickens.."

How is Malkin going to be "the guy" on a team with Kane and Toews? I also don't see how they can have almost 30m tied up in 3 players. Not a chance that happens. The more likely scenario is that Fleury gets moved and then the Pens have no problem keeping Malkin cap wise.

For good trade value. They wont just dump him over there for pucks and cans that play over there

Yeah, they need to be careful. Losing him for nothing would hurt, but so would desperation moves. That's when you start trading future superstar goalies for the 9th pick.

Also, looks like Backes is going to test free agency. Pony must be tearing up.

What are you guys hoping for come draft day?

Any players you specifically want your teams to draft?

Datsyuk is probably my favorite non-Penguins player, but leaving with one year left on your contract is kind of a dick move.

I'd love to grab Max Jones, but the Pens don't have a 1st rounder, not that I can complain. Lot of decent defensemen in the middle of the round too. My aim would be speedy, pesky wingers who can score, and mid-pairing defensemen.

They shouldn't have too much of an issue moving it if they wait a bit. There'll be teams looking just to hit the cap floor, and not having to pay a cent for 7 mil or whatever in cap vs signing a bunch of scrubs might make them interested.

I kind of hope the Jets go after the contract and get a decent pick or prospect out of it.

Yeah, I thought Pittsburgh got a good deal for Kessel when the trade was made, but holy hell did it work out well for them.

I've been rubbing it in to every salty Leaf fan in my life, but they still use the same talking points, like Kessel still has something to prove. If they fuck up that pick and Kapanen doesn't develop this trade will end up looking Milburyesque.
