NHL Regular Season Discussion: Sharks Pls

Like the Panthers jerseys, they;ve got kind of a European look to them, but they remind me a little too much of the Senators aways. I thank Bylsma for that initial spark that led us to the '09 Cup (Okay, it was mostly Fleury playing like a madman) but it was incredibly frustrating watching him look confused all the time. That stupid piece of paper he always had, like it had all the answers but he just didn't want to resort to it. The Olympic flameout will haunt me more than any Pens loss, to be honest, I was shocked. Just nothing going on. Long live Sully!

having a team in Vegas is stupid as fuck... Hockey in the desert... Awesome, we're seeing how well that's working in phoenix.

Also, why expansion? I could see if a team is moving there... But don't we have too many teams diluting the talent pool to shit in half the league in all for major sports as it is?

Dolla dolla bill ya'll stick em for the cream.

I'll watch a game in Vegas. All of the California teams do pretty well considering its hot all the time. I think it depends on the fan base more then the weather. I could see Vegas being a huge flop, but I could also see it doing well as the first and only major sport in the state. (Raiders could ruin that)

because the west has two fewer teams than the east - we need to balance the equation.

Plus people will come from Van, SJ, ANA, LA - Almost any Canadian Team fans will go to LV - NY fans, CHI fans, Bos Fans will all make that trip - weekend getaway and a hockey game

Any word on the second team will be? I heard a 2nd Toronto or a Quebec franchise is in the works too. It'll be pathetic if Bettman pushes a second team anywhere but Canada, especially after this LV deal. But that's something he'd do.

Vegas got picked over Quebec today - so in the next expansion 2017/18 season it will only be one team.

Quebec has a strong case but the the weak CDN dollar and the fact that no team from the east wants to move west was ultimately their hinderance. I actually dont Blame Bettman for this one, the weak dollar is what is causing the Salary cap to shrink and unless a team like Det / Columbus voluntary go to the west - not sure how you can add Quebec to the east.

Is there a worse city for a team? Vegas is pretty much a city of tourists, where's their fan base going to come from? If I was visiting Vegas, watching a hockey game is going to be near the bottom of my list of things to do or see. Seems like they're going to be banking on fans of visiting teams or something.

Vegas is the 2nd largest metropolitan area without a pro sports team in the US behind San Bernardino (lol will never have/need a team). It has 2 million residents, employees have to work there to serve all those tourists. It's double the population of areas like Calgary-Nashville, It has a bigger population then Pittsburgh.. Lack of people isn't the problem. The problem is if it has enough hockey fans.

I understand what you mean, but your last sentence says it all.

According to a 2013 analysis by Nate Silver using Google search data, Las Vegas has far fewer hockey fans than any current NHL city, as well as nearly every other potential expansion site. Seattle, another city on the rumored expansion list, only fairs slightly better.

Good post, I have never seen that stat.

That said I think the NHL is trying to bank on being the first team in Vegas, and converting fans from that. How many Canadians watched the playoffs this year? No one would like baseball without a favorite team. Having a rooting interest matters, Vegas doesn't have a team so I think it's unfair to judge them against cities that do (I see there are cities without on the list)

Penguins win...ratings sucked so nobody cares. And once Crosby retires the city and its shit fan base will abandon the team when the suck...again...and talks of relocating the club will spring up...again.

Such is the way of things.

Btw I just heard on the radio that the arena is right behind new York New York. Lol at putting it right on the strip, sounds like a shit storm getting to the arena and parking.

They passed up Quebec of all fucking markets...

But who goes to Vegas to watch a mother fucking hockey game? Out of all the cool shit to do there...

BettMan is a fucking titbag.

Who gives a shit about Queefbec?

They had their chance, and they blew it.

Seattle should be right after Vegas imo.

There are a ton of LA Kings fans in Vegas.

Also lol about a desert mattering its not like theyre fucking playing outdoors anywhere.
