They passed up Quebec of all fucking markets...

But who goes to Vegas to watch a mother fucking hockey game? Out of all the cool shit to do there...

BettMan is a fucking titbag.
Snow birds.

Vegas will be a very friendly arena to visiting teams. It'll be the kind of thing where you schedule a guys weekend so you can catch your team when they visit. We'll see if the franchise itself can do itself any favors or it's just going to wallow in the Blue Jackets tar pit.

Vegas is not a bad market -its got a large enough metro area , lots of foreign market team fans will show up - classic vegas 3-4 day trip + leafs (or a solid team) game??? I am in. T-mobile arena only hold 17'500, 14'000 season seats have pre orders on them, which is 80% of the capacity percentage - which even if they dont sell another ticket (assuming all pre orders get purchased) they still wont be the worst selling team in their debut season. Plus they are located in the land of comp - hotels, business ect buying tickets and using them for giveaways or discounted attractions - 100'000 visitors per day, all looking for something to do - if people can sit through cheech and chong's stage show, or Jabbawockeez - then people will pay to go see a hockey game.

Any word on the second team will be? I heard a 2nd Toronto or a Quebec franchise is in the works too. It'll be pathetic if Bettman pushes a second team anywhere but Canada, especially after this LV deal. But that's something he'd do.

Bettman apparently hasn't gotten the memo that Canadian viewership of these playoffs were down 61 percent, and in the states came in as well behind the nba. The bachelorette out ranked the nhl playoffs for fuck sakes.

Can you cry anymore or is that the pinnacle of your tears?

LOL @ giving a single fuck about tv ratings.

As well, a team in vegas will prolly be a lot like a team in Atlanta.. people would pay next to nothing to escape from the heat for a few hours.. and they will eventually lose that team lol

Big difference though. Sport endorsements and advertisements for businesses with the hometown athletes will be huge attractions in vegas; athletes will do promos for money, businesses will make more money, stir a buzz etc. While a lot of cities already do this, vegas has a greater capacitance for it considering the tourism and money that comes in. I'm not huge on a team in vegas either but $$ wise this deal makes sense. Would prefer seattle but they got denied.

Have to give up Teuvo just to get rid of Bickell hahaha.

Fuck, it's gonna be hard to get rid of Lupul though.

5 years ago today the city of Cancouver went up in flames

CHI giving up prospects for Cap space - they are going after Malkin.

"This is the word. The talk here is that both sides feel the time to move on has come. It's a business decision for the Pens and Malkin himself needs to get to a situation where he can be "the guy." The difficulty here is that Malkin controls where he can go and has the ability to limit the possible destinations and according to a source "the places in which he has shown interest so far are all in big cap trouble." So this will take creativity. I am hearing the Kings, the Wild, and Chicago are the early favorites...I don't believe the Penguins want to move him to the East... This will get interesting though and my sources say he may open up to other possibilities and the "Penguins will talk to anyone who is interested" and then try and convince Geno...

Even if a deal can't get done this WILL be the buzz at the Draft. I guarantee that."

"The Blackhawks have traded Bickell and Teravainen to Carolina in a HUGE move to free up Cap space...The Hawks NEVER get Cap space without a reason... I am told that one of the teams Malkin would accept a trade to is....Chicago...

The Plot thickens.."

lmfao

That is the hottest pile of garbage I've ever seen.

The cap is staying flat, and the Hawks want to re-sign players like Panarin, and Shaw. They can't afford Malkin.

Tv deals are the biggest thing bettman is after for revenue generation...lol dumbass. It's also a great barometer as to the popularity of the sport. It's like how we judge ppv buys in mma...

So yes....ratings matter

We need to have a pole regarding stamkos

Tampa bay

i agree the odds are slim - but if Malkin wants out its going to come at a cost of cap space and a ransom trade. Why else levy Teravainen just to get rid of Bickell? Bowman is not stupid and if it was just about cash for resigning - why not just eat the million it would cost to buy out Bick and keep your possible future 2nd line center? Especially when Parian and Shaw are most likely going to be signed to a bridge deal

And the league has yet to vote on the 5% escalator clause for the cap.

I figured it would be obvious, but no way Chicago can afford or even wants to take on Malkin's contract in addition to Toews/Kane.

And Eklund just makes up shit for clicks, the only time he is right on his "insider info" is in regards to the flyers. I wouldn't go around throwing his articles up as evidence, or watch my time reading them TBH

i usually agree with the sentiments RE Eklund - but having to levy Teuvo just to rid Bickell does not fit Stan's MO whatsoever - could easily just buyout Bickell and eat the 1.5 mill in 2018. Its all contingent on whether or not Malkin wants to leave and where he'd be willing to get traded to. Add the expansion would should see Chi losing roster payables, the cap escalator and chicago having solid young prospects to trade and its not out of the realm of possibility.
