I don't know what it was, but it's gotta be pretty damn bad for them to take such drastic measures and basically destroy the guy's reputation, and likely chase him out of the league. Messing around with your teammate's mother(as long as it was consensual) would maybe warrant a trade for fucking with team chemistry, but not this public flogging and dismissal.

I'm thinking it's gotta be a hazing incident that didn't sit well with whom I can only assume was Bedard.

That at least seems plausible. It might just be something boring like fucking up the wealthy owner's money, and they're making a big deal out of it, to try and save some face from the rest of their fuck ups, giving an impression that they actually care about holding people accountable.
