New BMW M4 leaked- and it's grotesque

my best friend bought a BMW 8 series from the 80's-early 90's for like 800 bucks. He called me on the way to the bar and thought someone was racing him so he pressed the gas and he won a street race he didnt even know he was taking part of.

car caught fire and burned 6 months later but at 400k miles it went out like a champ.

The parts are cross platform. Shit that goes on the Jetta, for instance, are the exact same parts that go on the A4. No difference between them.

The biggest difference in quality is going to be in the interior. Sound system, overall tech, and seat material. If that's worth an extra 10 grand (or more, depending on the car, model), go for it! But they're typically indistinguishable from a mechanical standpoint.

Both brands are notoriously unreliable past 60k miles, because they are mechanically the same.

Obviously this doesn't go for the high end of either companies, if that's not clear. But the "mirror image models" are, well, mirror images in that respect. The A7 probably shares a fuck ton of individual components with the higher end Passat models. I haven't fact checked this personally, so if you can prove me wrong... well, do it? I've never been afraid of learning something new.
Nah, the A7 doesnt share any parts with VW's (aside from stuff like switch gear and clamps and shit like that). It's only the MQB platform Audis that are rebadged VW's- the Audi A3 is basically a GTI and the S3 is a Golf R, the Audi Q3 is basically a Tiguan, etc.

The A7 is derived from the A6 and is on its own architecture. They don't share any drivetrain and platform components with VW's except the Phideon which we don't get here.

Look at the proportions on this car. What VW can fit a longitudinal V8?
Here is a CC for comparison.

It really becomes apparent when they're parked next to each other that they're derived from completely different DNA, despite some superficial outward similarities.

fun fact: VW spent billions on a state of the art factory to build the truly upscale Phaeton- it was a VW that rivaled the S Class and 7 series in luxury (and in price). It bombed because no one wanted to pay Mercedes money for a VW. One of the biggest blunders in VW's recent history (until Dieselgate).

They eventually salvaged some of the investment by buying the Bentley brand and repurposing the Phaeton platform to Continental GT's. It was a massive hit.

Thanks for the correction! I remember the Phaeton debacle. Really a lesson in branding.

lol more pics of the new M3 leaked:

Fuck, it's horrendous. Too bad cuz it has mindblowing performance- the same engine in the X3M is doing 0-60 in 3.8 seconds in a much heavier car.

I don't mind it really. Definitely not the best looking BMW. It looks pretty American like it should be called a Lazershark or something. Would drive though

This one was actually known as Shark nose

I bet he said "Dave. Im gonna race" and you probably screamed "Chip NO"
Was his name Chip?

I never thought I'd say this but I honestly prefer American Cars at this point in history.

I don't think I will ever purchase a BMW beyond the E9X chasis. The only exception would be the F87 M2 or the F22 M335i/M340i.

V8 M3 goodness.

I'm pretty sure the enlarged front grill opening isn't just a styling exercise. It lets in much more air flow, for engine cooling.

I couldn't care less about styling, anyway. I place function over form.

UPDATED*
Looks like BMW saw the horrible response to their design and panic redesigned the 4.

So instead of that ugly buck tooth grill we now have an awkward combined mess that violates all the principles of BMW design tradition.

Da f is going on with grill designs these days?

I watched a How It's Made Dream Cars on BMW i8 and that's one sexy car.

Oh cool they made a vaguely stretched Passat.

My bad. I forgot that they're just a rebranding.

Audi is to VW as Lexus is to Toyota; Vaguely nicer but nowhere near worth the price.

Only about a third of Lexus cars have Toyota equivalents. For starters, Lexus is all RWD except for maybe 2-3 models. In the US market, what else other than the Landscruiser and the cheap Lexus are straight Toyotas?

They said that about the 2019 Camaro but it turns out it was just as ugly IRL too. There was no way to redeem it.

They did it an emergency refresh for 2020 because it affected sales too much. It's slightly improved, but still awkward.

Meanwhile, Ford just dropped the best looking Mustang since 1970.

I don't know how you could be any more comically, hilariously wrong. 1970 was the year it all started going downhill for the Mustang:

If by 1970, you meant 1968 and by now, you meant 2014. Then yes.

1970 was still decent. It was 71-73 where it all went to shit. From this
