Having flashbacks to the 5' 140 power lifter in our league who would score a million TDs on my 6'1 skinny ass then let me up in our dozen matches....

I finally started picking top position, at least I could hold him down decent enough and keep the score respectable...lol

We'd literally joke about it during our matches.
This is going to be the mindset of every opponent that Ono wrestles in college.

I know the feeling my man. And picking top also makes sense for older guys who might not be as explosive or quick with the level change as they used to be. I did that last year at an old man tourny against a guy I couldn't take down. Since I'm better at BJJ than wrestling these days, I got him in back mount, was about to turn him for near fall with a half, and he fought it so hard that he popped a rib and lost by injury retirement. Not the way I wanted to win but a W is a W. My next opponent took me down and beat my ass lol.

Shit this was high school. My TDs sucked. Scored most points with a switch counter and ankle picks.

If anything my TD game improved thanks to coming up in Judo after HS while leg grabs were still legal, suprised the hell out of some of the BJJ guys who had the "Judoka can't defend sprawls good because leg grabs illegal in Judo now" bad idea...bad bjj TDs leading to Judo counters made for fun times (some would just kill me on the ground anyway early on)

Couldn't imagine my body ever being in wrestling shape again, lol.

Yeah in HS my shots were ass. I preferred body locks and head and arm throws with the occasional high C. And under the old scoring, you could still win giving up the TD if you were good at scrambles on the mat (which I was). But that's why I like the current scoring - it forces kids to get good at TDs (including shots) if they want to win. As with anything, drillers are killers.

Makes me wonder just how much Dake has really been cutting to make 74 kg. I don't think he's wrestled 86 kg since taking 2nd at the 2016 Olympic trials at that weight.

I read that he weighed in 3lbs under so he's undersized at 86kg. He's definitely still a tweener and was having a hard time getting to Zahid's legs because of his length. I think Kyle is going to the WTT to give it another shot at 86, I'm disappointed as I wanted to see him and Mesenbrink go.

FFS dude is such a badass. He won't settle for 79 kg because it's not an Olympic weight.

Not sure what happened to Brooks as it looks like he didn't accept the Final X spot being a retuning medalist at 86, not sure if he's going to be at WTT. Starocci and Marsteller should be there as well, not going to be easy for Kyle at his size, but I'm never going to rule him out.

Dake over Starocci at 86 kg at WTT last weekend. Super close and controversial.

So we get Dake vs. Valencia rematch at Final X. Still don't know why Dake didn't just go 79 kg. Even if he's crazy enough to try for another Olympic run in 2028 at age 37, that's 3 years away. I guess he wants to give his body plenty of time to grow into 86 kg. What a badass.

And too bad we didn't get to see Brooks in the mix at 86 kg. Wonder what's going on with him.

Snyder is slated for Final X but unknown if he'll be able to compete. Apparently he's currently under safesport suspension due to his prostitution arrest.

Ya, I saw that, I thought Dake's shoulders broke 90 Deg but I'm fine with the ruling. Carter is only getting bigger, stronger and better so this is probably Dake's last chance to make a world team and 86. I'm dying to see him go against Yazdani at worlds so I hope he gets past Zahid at Final X.

Yup same. I also thought the ref gave Dake the benefit of the doubt allowing him to play passive and intentionally give up two ring outs when he was up 3-1. When Carter had the front headlock, ref was directing Dake to stop backing up but he did it anyway.

Oh and Brooks is going to 97kg. Not sure if you heard about Snyder

Wow they're both young guys so will be interesting to see how Brooks matches up with Snyder down the line. And didn't know he pled guilty to a lesser charge, I guess that's the best case outcome for Snyder on a first-time offense.

The two most iconic characters in that movie are played by actors without wikis.

Read that it’s the first time Yianni has ever been pinned.
