Gable Steveson just proving that D1 wrestlers > Olympic Gold Medalists

D1 is the pinnacle of rasslin'

Dake is the biggest disappointment in Olympic history. Sucks.
Dominant DI wrestlers are at the very top of the food chain. Terry Brands has said that he feels an NCAA season is the perfect prep for the freestyle circuit and that Nationals is the toughest tournament in wrestling.

One of the Phogat family wrestlers disciplined for actions in Tokyo

Three reasons:

- she didn't share her room with teammates
- she didn't train with her teammates at the Olympics.
- would not wear the official team shirt.

She claims that since she arrived from Hungary with her coach, while the rest of the team arrived from India, she was concerned for Covid19.

Gable winning gold is not that embarrassing for international wrestling. He's been clearly the most promising prospect in the world at that weight for many years. He's a one of a kind talent, and has a lot of accolades even like beating Gwiz twice to qualify, so that's not that weird.

The embarrassing thing is Myles Amine winning bronze. He's never finished above 3rd in NCAAs, just finished 3rd in NCAAs 3 months ago, a tournament for mostly only Americans and only college students, goes to the top freestyle tournament in the world and beats Shabanau, beats Deepak Punia, and wins a medal. That should not happen.

I have to say, Punia (much worse than his brother) and Shabanov are both incredibly average in freestyle

Let's be honest here... that weight is gutted due to parity. There are 2 guys who have any real shot at winning and the rest of the world is so far behind that they're not even worth talking about.

Tier 1
Taylor
Yazdanicharati

Tier 2
Kurugliev

Tier 3
...

Tier 4
The rest of the world

I'd replace Kurugliev with Naifonov. Naifonov just won an olympic bronze, he already has a world bronze, and has beaten Kurugliev 4/6 times.

I think Naifonov wrestled a great match vs. Yazdani at the olympics. He pushed a pace and has very solid defense, he made Yazdani tire out; despite losing 7-1 lmao. I think he can improve too.

Do you think Taylor will be able to win another Olympic gold in 2024?

It depends on whether Taylor is on the gear or not. Quite frankly

I read that he, like Dake, have a 'specialized' training routine which helps maintain durability and health, as well as getting quality training, and keeping good wrestling shape. Regardless of this, and how great their schedules are: nothing lasts forever.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor and Dake not making the next olympic team. 2024 isn't too far away, but father time catches us all.

Do you believe that he wasn't in the gear in this Olympic Cycle? Anyways, There is a new peptide(who isn't being tested by the COI, yikes) who makes repair in joints faster. I really hope that this promising new drug really works, cuz i would love to see older athletes excelling.
- video about the new drug.

He’s a an example of a lot of smoke. But I haven’t seen the fire yet. So. I would not at all be shocked. But I can’t in good conscience say for sure

Dake looks like an older athlete training smart. Taylor looks.. different

I guess his injuries didn't help either, but at least he reached the top of the sport (again). I am not confident that Dake will be any better in 2024

We'll see

I'm not saying that just about everyone at the top can't be using, but Taylor, to me, just looks like a guy who wrestles with the mentality that literally everything will go right for him. He's also filled out over time at 86kilos. This isn't uncommon especially after a serious injury. You know how it is, you tend to hit the weights with renewed vigor.

And increased cardio as you get normal is totes normal

Am I just completely drawing a blank or is USAW looking at a potential significant drop off in quality of the middle weights as this generation ages out? I mean, who is coming up at 70 through 92 that is on the level or potentially on the level of a Dake or a Taylor? Even NCAA studs like Dieringer, Imar, Zahir, Martin will be on the downside by the time the current generation gets out of their way. And have any of them proven they can beat international guys that are medal contenders at worlds/Olympics anyway?
