im done on the Jordan vs LeBron stuff now. People get too touchy and nobody is budging anyways lol

Now people will make it sound like i dont think Jordan was an elite defender when i really do. Especially pre 94 he was one of the all time great defenders.

I forget older stuff so easily nowadays, I can't tell you you're wrong. I do believe Jordan was an elite defender. Everyone eventually gets the benefit of the doubt due to their stature. My earlier point was there's a difference between having issues and getting 'owned' as you stated.

game 1 Jordan fouled Magic 5x, 4x in the post....

game 2 he fouled Magic 3x in the first half and got pulled off him. Idk if thats being owned but it aint good. He couldnt guard Magic without fouling. That was also a declining version of Magic just pre HIV announcement.

As great as Rodman is, I rate Hakeem the best defender of that era. More consistent, didn't constantly get in foul trouble, better rim protector. Rodman's advantage is being able to move to the perimeter, but rim protection >>>>>>>>>> perimeter defense (especially in that era). The Admiral has a case as well, but his injuries kept him from doing it as long as Dream and Dream was better against the top Centers imo.

Jordan had lots of trouble with Drexler and Hardaway in the post too. As i said he lost a step defensively as he aged. No shame in that but the media and fans still held him up to the same level because he was already "his Airness"

Pippen and Harper would regularly draw the tough wing defensive assignments. I dont bring up Rodman but he is actually the best defender of that generation so i would rate 3 guys above Jordan on his own team defensively. No shame because those are 3 of the best defenders ever, too.

I guess Jordan's three steals titles and DPOY were fake also, right?

What are you, a Knicks, Cavs fan? Whatever team Jordan regularly destroyed in his time?

You sure are a ferocious blind Jordan hater.

Steals? Really? Allen Iverson used to get steals titles too and he never locked anyone down in his entire career. Curry lead the league in steals last year.

I have a hard time ever voting against dream as the defensive GOAT.

He didn't seem like a hater. Nothing he posted was outlandish.

The other guy you are all forgetting is Ron Harper. I rate him a better defender than Jordan, too. That isnt to say Jordan wasnt an elite defender, he was. Especially pre 94 but after that his defense is VERY overstated, He lost a step.

Jordan making 1st team D and Ron Harper not tells you how much those "accolades" are worth. Nothing.

Ok then...

So steals aren't important now? God damn millennials...

IT and Curry are always near the top of steals when those fragile fucks actually play. Its clearly the most important defensive stat in the game.

On a less popular note sometimes blocks are misleading as far as defense goes. I rather a guy who makes his man shoot a lower % consistently than one who doesnt but gets lots of weakside blocks etc. Whiteside kind of guy.

LMAO. I'm 40, but thanks for playing.

And as an indicator of defensive prowess? Yes, they are completely unimportant. Jordan was an outstanding perimeter defender, but his steals numbers have next to nothing to do with it.

Look at year by year top ten for steals, sure most defensive stalwarts are up there but a lot of gamblers that do not play elite defense are up there as well. I think it is a worthwhile stat but needs to be viewed with ingame context.

also you all just saw clear video evidence that Jordan struggled to guard a declining Magic in the post.

You dont think LeBron could eat him in the post 1v1?? he would.

haha now im just baiting, sorry guys ;) its hard to compare and better to enjoy the moment. i bet most here didnt get to watch MJ. it was amazing.

There's a few comments on the Youtube vid actually saying the Boston defending wasn't that great.

Here's the infamous early-90s Knicks committing aggravated assault and MJ still dropping 54 on them.

Bern is great but Mark is still untouchable in the GOAT debate.

LOL, Starks got barbecued. Jordan's rhythm was sick that day and he was making shots from all over the floor from 3 pointers all the way to the rim.

Steals leader lists are mostly a list of guards who played a lot of minutes and aren't worthless.

Plain dumb statement, not even worth arguing.
