Ok then...

I don't agree that Harper was a better defender. I do also think the assertion that he was a great scorer because he had a few good years on some shitty teams offensively isn't something I agree with either. Regardless, Harper was a good defender.

Exactly.

Look at year by year top ten for steals, sure most defensive stalwarts are up there but a lot of gamblers that do not play elite defense are up there as well. I think it is a worthwhile stat but needs to be viewed with ingame context.

Look at the top 25 all time steals leaders, almost all are considered elite defenders. Is this a coincidence?

http://www.espn.com/nba/history/leaders/_/stat/steals

What's better?

1 - Stealing and scoring on a breakaway.
2 - Forcing a bad shot in the perimeter and having to fight for the defensive rebound.

Excellent defenders do both. Jordan did. Throughout all his career.

also you all just saw clear video evidence that Jordan struggled to guard a declining Magic in the post.

You dont think LeBron could eat him in the post 1v1?? he would.

haha now im just baiting, sorry guys ;) its hard to compare and better to enjoy the moment. i bet most here didnt get to watch MJ. it was amazing.

Height, length and strength matter in defense.

Also, Jordan played with Rodman and Harper after 94, two amazing defenders. Of course he looked like a less effective defender when playing besides them, he didn't need to defend as much as he had to before that. But who do you think was the leader of that team, on both ends?

It’s not often someone makes beri look like a reasonable, likeable guy. But here we are. Lmao.

@berimBOWLoh how do you feel about this random Lithuanian coach getting more consideration than stackhouse? I’m kind of excited for him to give JV way more usage due to favouritism.

Your lack of reading comprehension is hilarious. Enjoy being ignored by everyone here.

Lmfao @ this still dumbass thinking JV will ever amount to anything

game 1 Jordan fouled Magic 5x, 4x in the post....

game 2 he fouled Magic 3x in the first half and got pulled off him. Idk if thats being owned but it aint good. He couldnt guard Magic without fouling. That was also a declining version of Magic just pre HIV announcement.

If anything, this just proves that jordan didn't get superstar non-calls on defense the way that kobe and lebron did throughout their careers. If lebron ever racks up more than three fouls in a game he's on the verge of hysteria; the refs let him get away with hacking and bodying whoever he defends on a regular basis, and only call fouls on him when it's egregious and obvious. Hell, they had to look at a replay in game 1 just to make the right call on a blocking foul that even stevie wonder could have seen.

Nah brah. Raps had the 2nd youngest yoff team in the league

And what did that net them: a second round sweep that utterly humiliated and demoralized the entire franchise yet again?
I guess in the land of CANadians that qualifies as success though.

You're not wrong.

Lmao it's still funny how they got swept by that cavs team.

I think LeBron is more like Wilt than he is Jordan. Both LeBron and Wilt were by far the most dominant athletes in the league of their time, both filled up the stat sheets, but neither were the greatest champion of their time.

And I don’t mean that as any knock on LeBron, anyone who thinks that needs to take another look at how dominant Wilt was despite losing more Finals than he won.
Tbf that was 91 before he was the face of the league. Magic was still a bigger star than him at that point so it would make sense he would get the calls.
LeBron is the first player I can recall getting those superstar calls in his rookie year, but maybe that’s selective memory.

I'm sure this video was shared at some point. Haven't been able to keep up in the threads lately. Sharing anyway.
