You have to be 18 to join. So he most likely lied about his age. It was common in Afghanistan at the time for individuals to forge identification documents, such as birth certificates, to appear 18 or older to join U.S.-affiliated forces.

The CIA has some responsible to bare for further destabilizing Afghanistan (and contributing to the Soviet Union's withdrawal), through arming and financing the Afghan Mujahideen from 1979 to 1992. While the CIA's primary goal was to cause the Soviets to withdraw, the support for the Mujahideen ultimately contributed to the long-term destabilization of Afghanistan by empowering militias and fostering extremist groups that later became the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

Without CIA involvement, the Soviet-Afghan war would have been different, potentially leading to a Soviet victory and a less-destructive outcome for Afghanistan

I can get behind this. Biden and Mayorkas were horrible and should've been impeached on these actions and the southern border.
