My state scammed me

Was the “paternity” test just code word for “make sure they arent cousins”?
You're thinking of Arkansas. And she's black & I'm white so i don't think a paternity test is necessary to disprove incest.

I'm white. That stereotype doesn't apply

I'm not sure exactly how that works. Don't know if they'll direct deposit or send her a check. Either way I'm getting the money back. I just find it absolute bullshit that the government thinks they have any right to be involved here. Also I want other people to know that they shouldn't fall for the free paternity test trick.
You won't get 100% of your money back, they'll definitely take a fee.

So when my baby was born my state offered me a free paternity test. I was already certain this was my baby, but I figured hey why not. It's free & it will shut up anyone who has doubt, given that the pregnancy situation was a mess. My girl lost her marbles when she became pregnant. Anyway I requested the free paternity test & obviously it was proven I'm the father.

Here's where the bullshit starts. Now my state is demanding I pay child support for my child that I'm already supporting. No one has ever even mentioned child support other than the state. And we aren't getting any government assistance at all. My girl has already said if they do force me to pay child support, she'll just give that money right back to me. Either way it's still fucked up that the government is forcing me to pay child support for my baby which I'm already supporting. Makes no sense.

Lesson learned. If your state offers you a free paternity test, tell them to fuck off. If you have any doubt, pay a private company to do the paternity test for you. Don't get scammed like I did. Now I'll have to hire an attorney & fight this in court. Big waste of time & money.

I thought you two were back together?

She'll get a debit card that it gets deposited to. Don't, for one second, think you're getting it all back. Like they're just transferring money from one of your accounts to another. They charge fees. It's not a lot, but I'm sure you'll agree about the whole principal of the situation thing.

I grew up in KCMO, but I was living in Vegas when my ex wife and I split up. We didn't actually divorce until a couple years later, but I was paying her cash weekly to help support my daughter. It wasn't a lot because I had her every single weekend, from Friday night to Monday morning when I dropped her off at school, but I wanted to do my part, and the amount we agreed upon was both affordable and not ludicrous.

Anyways, we were divorced in August of.... '08 I believe, but the mandatory payments didn't start coming out of my check until December. I was still paying her cash every week for those 4 months. I didn't find out until I filed my taxes and they took my entire refund that I owed back CS for those 4 months it took them to start taking payments out of my check. The ex gave me back everything I paid her, but it was still a fucking bullshit move on the govts part.

Yes. Happened to me

Maybe this is a new thing? My first born son was born in MO and his mother never requested child support. We were never married, just good friends that had a crazy night together. He's autistic so she gets financial help from the government, on top of being pretty stable already so she's never asked me for a dime. I help out as much as possible, but she doesn't need it. She was also never asked about the father.

Your case might be something new though, as he's 15 years old now. Or it could be because I never took a paternity test.

You seem like a good dad. Part of the problem is there is a lot of deadbeat dads out there they've got to force kicking and screaming to pay child support which ruins it for everyone else.

I don't understand how they determine how much I'm supposed to pay when I'm already supporting my daughter & she's with me everyday. My situation is different because I'm with my daughter all of the time. I'm trying to figure out why the government is even intervening in a situation that is already under control. I think the government is over stepping their bounds here. At this point it's not about the welfare of the child, but instead the government enforcing rules that don't even apply to our situation.
