Limelight My big stupid hype trains thread.

Giacomo Lemos won, now 7-0. I wonder if the UFC goes back in for him, now his suspension is up.

What about Vakhaev, you reckon he might be UFC bound with another 1-2 wins?

Not sure, @Feniamin is much more informed on this kind of stuff than me, but IIRC he left ACA because he was told he'd get picked up, then didn't get picked up.

I think some of the problem is that his 9-4-1 record isn't spectacular on paper, but if you look at his win streak and who's he's fought, it paints a different picture.

Yeah I totally agree about his record, I think he's fine though - Parker Porter was signed at 9-5, remember, and he's fucking shit! 10-4-1 Vakhaev would be totally acceptable given he'd probably break top 10 quickly.

If his name was Marcus Vick and he was from Delaware not Dagestan he'd have been signed a while ago.

I think he signed 4 fight/1,5 or 2 years contract, so free agency not before 2023.

Will he actually be let go? The stories from ACA is that they make it hard for some guys to leave

UFC seems to be signing more fighters with russian sounding names.. that are not russian Saidyokub Kakhramonov is listed as Uzbekistan on UFC site, but most sites list him as from USA. I wonder if they have limits on fighters they can just switch their country.
What is Russian sounding in his name? Ending -ov in surname? Multiple Slavic ethnicities have -ov/ev as ending in surnames + minority people who lived in Slavic countries with them (Jews, Roma/Gypsies, Caucasus and Central Asian people and others). And other ethnicities, like Lachinov from latest season of TUF and Abbasov, champ of ONE promotion are Turkish, I've seen Greek and Persian people who lived for generation in Russia have surnames that ends in -ov/-ev.

I guess his name and surname are of Arabic and Turkic origin. Those Central Asian people who was born in USSR or around 30 years ago all have -ov/-ev in the end of their surnames (unless they changed it later or maybe in the later USSR you was able to get your surname to it Turkic/Iranic form). Now, I think, some of countries are banning such surnames (Tajikistan, I think newborn child must have name or surname without Slavic stuff) or maybe those who are not native are allowed to have names/surnames in their native language.
Sorry for the lecture.

Tae Kyun Kim

Country - South Korea
Weight Class - Featherweight
Age : 27
Promotion - BRAVE
Record - 9-0

This fight was Kim's coming out party and his worthy entrance into the pantheon of South Korean just bleed featherweights alongside Korean Zombie and Superboy.

Kim got hurt badly in the first minute against Nurzhan Akishev, so badly that I thought the fight was over for a second. He managed to survive the onslaught, get his brain to focus again and had badly hurt his opponent by the end of the round. What followed was him using a really educated jab to piece Akishev up, brutal knees from a Thai plum whenever he came too close and nasty calf kicks, straights and hooks too in a complete striking performance in one of the best fights of the year.

In his last fight he showed excellent grappling both from the guard and on top, so adding this kind of striking to it as well as showing this kind of heart to come back and win from a difficult position is going to be a tough thing to deal with for a lot of people. UFC hire worthy performance imo.

Vasily Takhtay

Country - Kazakhstan
Weight Class - Lightweight
Age : 25
Promotion - BRAVE
Record - 9-0

This dude is a bit of a weird one. He went 8-0 before the age of 21, then randomly didn't compete for 4 years until the weekend. I have no idea why he did that, but he looked incredible, beating up a decent Brazilian opponent with all manner of offence on the feet and on the ground. He probably landed about 20 different types of technique before ultimately choking him out. Can't wait to see him again.

Azat Maksum

Country - Kazakhstan
Weight Class - Flyweight
Age : 26
Promotion - BRAVE/Octagon
Record - 13-0

Another impressive performance from a Kazakh fighter on the BRAVE card. This guy just felt his opponent out for a while before deciding to one punch KO him. That kind of power at Flyweight is always going to get my attention.

Shoutouts to

Nurzhan Akishev (28/FW/Kazakhstan/11-3) - The other half of an excellent fight with Kim, managed to rock him and then showed insane toughness and heart to survive in the fight, taking quite a beating but always trying to throw back.

Asu Almabaev (27/FLW/Kazakhstan/13-2) - Got a win over Doksalchuk who had a UFC contract before a USADA issue last year, if you watched the fight and didn't know you'd think Almabaev was the one who'd been on the UFC roster.

I remember seein some announcement from Takhtay from 2017 (I think) -- he accomplished everything that he wanted and he had gym or team (Takhtay Team) and was concentrated on training. Don't know if you seen it -- he walked out with 4 or 5 kids and kissed them, so I guess it's his children. And he also have kinda rare ethnic background -- he said that as far as he knows he is of Tatar, Russian, Chechen, Kyrgyz and Korean descent.

Forgot to mention -- I am pretty sure I've seen Indian mma fighter with surname that ended with -ev. And I think some Mongolian fighter/fighters (there is one guy that fights this week at ONE event, but I suspect it's his name and not surname that ends with -ev/-ov).

I don't know. He just signed with them, why would they let him go? Or after he finish his contract? He would probably be OK, from what I've read seems like it's non-Chechens/non-Russians who have problems with leaving after not resigning.

Bummer, I was planning on putting a little on Brito against Askhabov.

Cool opportunity for Lopes, unfortunate for Askhabov. I think this will happen a few times on this season. Hopefully he gets another chance. I think maybe a couple of contender series cards on fight island would be cool.

Yeah, they were gonna go to Kazakhstan prior to covid / during the lockdown so I definitely reckon they'll do a UFN card in Nur-Sultan early 2022 if possible, and some of these dudes will definitely get signed for that card. Seems a nice breeding ground. Shavkat will co-main event the card, by then he's gonna be pushing top 10.

@Hellowhosthat

What do you think about the two guys the UFC signed from the latest ep of Lookin For A Fight?

Nikolay Veretennikov and Leomana Martinez?

I did a post on Martinez earlier in the thread, one of the hardest hitting guys I've seen at that weight.

The other dude as mentioned got a contender series shot against Michael Morales who I actually like more
