My big stupid hype trains thread.

How can you not love the Asakura bros?

They always bring the ultraviolence.

So...Nick Piccinninni won his first fight today. By RNC...just like I predicted...

They had to find him an opponent to fight on short notice. They found one with a 2-5 record who has lost his last 4 fights 3 times by RNC and once by triangle. We are all grownups here, you know and I know, RNC is the most common way to lose when you're handed a little something by the promoter on the side...

The important thing is that the fight is over and now that he's 1-0, hopefully now he can get fights on LFA or another prospect promotion and start building his way up to a big promotion.

So this week we've got (need to watch UAE Warriors before I update the rankings)

Cage Warriors on Thursday

- Christian Duncan (England/MW/3-0) rematching Will Currie (22/England/MW/5-1) after the bad stoppage in their first bout.

Cage Warriors again on Friday

- Agy Sardari (28/Holland/LW/14-2) defending his title against 7-3-1 Joe McColgan who's pretty decent but keeps running into people like Mason Jones and Jai Herbert.
- Jesse Urholin (32/Finland/WW/6-0) takes on CW gatekeeper Aaron Khalid (10-6-1)
- #11 FLW Luke Shanks (26/England/FLW/7-2) tries to bounce back from his loss to the excellent Jake Hadley against 6-3 Nicolas Leblond
- Bellator vet Justin Burlinson (24/England/WW/5-0) goes up against David Bear (30/France/WW/9-1) in an interesting fight
- Nathan Fletcher (23/England/BW/5-0) probably gets a title shot if he beats 10-3 Belgian Brian Bouland

PFL on Friday

- #1 WBW+ Kayla Harrison (30/USA/LW/9-0) is probably going to murder UFC vet Cindy Dandois (16-6)
- Raush Manfio (29/Brazil/LW/12-3) who fights out of ATT has a huge fight against former UFC champ Anthony Pettis
- #11 FW Movlid Khaybulaev (30/Russia/FW/16-0) will be moving up the rankings if he can get it done against returning champ Lance Palmer
- #4 HW Denis Goltsov (30/Russia/HW/26-6) has ended up fighting Brandon Sayles (6-1)
- #12 HW Bruno Cappelozza (31/Brazil/HW/11-5) tries to follow up his great win against Delija against 8-3 Mo De'Reese
- #8 HW Ante Delija (30/Croatia/HW/17-4) hopefully shows better fight IQ against late replacement Chandler Cole (26/USA/HW/8-2)
- #9 WBW+ Genah Fabian (31/New Zealand/LW/3-1) takes on Julija Pajic (3-1)
- # 15 HW and famous false tapper Renan Ferreira (31/Brazil/HW/6-2) fights Stuart Austin (32/England/HW/13-2) who's coming off a win in the worst fight I've ever seen against Satoshi Ishii.

Yet more Cage Warriors on Saturday <{JustBleed}>

- #7 WW Ian Garry (23/Ireland/WW/6-0) will move very high in the rankings if he makes it look easy against the tough Jack Grant (29/England/WW/17-6) in a WW title fight.
- Mehdi Ben Lakhdar (France/LW/5-0-1) gets a good fight against UFC and Bellator vet Paul Redmond (15-8)
- James Hendin (England/FW/5-1) fights Paull McBain (32/Scotland/FW/6-1)
- Tobias Harila (27/Sweden/FW/9-1) who's on the cusp of the rankings fights William Gomis (24/France/FW/6-2) who's only losses are to Parnasse and Charriere.

Daniel Skibinski

Country - Poland
Weight Class - Welterweight
Age : 30
Promotion - UAE Warriors
Record - 18-5

Skibinski had a very tough assignment against Acoidan Duque who was 16-2 and coming into this fight off a win against UFC vet Carlo Pedersoli in Bellator. He passed it with flying colours moving onto 11 wins in a row, in the first round he almost decapitated Duque with an uppercut which he somehow survived and after a closer 2nd round he did this to him in the third, surely the contender series beckons.

So over the weekend there were more excellent performances from....

Ian Garry (23/Ireland/WW/7-0) who captured the Cage Warriors WW title in a dominant win over Jack Grant, it was kinda surprising that he engaged a grappler as good as Grant on the floor without ever really looking in serious trouble over 5 rounds. I think a win like that will be better for his development than a quick KO would have been. I doubt he fights in Cage Warriors again tbh and expect him to make his UFC debut by the end of the year.

Kayla Harrison (30/USA/LW/10-0) who just utterly demolished poor old Cindy Dandois. Her standup didn't look amazing, but once she gets on top of people (And with her credentials that's more likely than not), she's just absolutely horrible to them. In this one she didn't go the ground and pound route and decided to break Dandois' arm instead.

Nathan Fletcher (23/England/BW/6-0) who makes things quite refreshing as being one of the back control guys who seems to consistently push and push for a finish. His back control is excellent and on par with some of the guys with bigger promotions who make a living with back control, but the finishing seems to be the difference at the moment. The key will be whether he can maintain that at a higher level, but so far so good.

Bruno Cappelozza (32/Brazil/HW/12-5) This dude is just fun in a reckless kinda way. I think he'll continue to come unstuck a lot as he really doesn't seem to give a fuck, but boy is his style fun to watch.

So this week we've got no UFC, no Bellator and no PFL

In regards to who is eligible for your list, why isn't Ali Isaev listed? Is it because he hasn't fought in a while or just age?

I've got an arbitrary cut off of 33 (had to do one somewhere), Ali is 37 so he's too old. Magomed Ismailov and a few other people would also be on if they were younger.

I probably wouldn't normally make a hype post for someone beating a 1-0 fighter, but on this occasion fuck it. My primary reason is that this is a world class grappler who's medalled at the no gi worlds, so she has an insane pedigree and threat on the mat. In this fight she decided to show that she also has one punch KO power at SW by absolutely flatlining Megan Owen. A grappler of this quality who also has KO power on the feet is a problem.

My favourite power manlet is back in style boys. It seems he learned from his loss to Trujillo where he went all out looking for the KO and got gassed and finished himself. This time he took his time, mixed in the wrestling for some good control positions and when the big shot landed naturally it still utterly flattened his opponent. This is against a solid opponent in Zaripov too.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen a flyweight in MMA who hits as hard as this guy.

Fuck it, we'll do repeat posts if people earn them. Renfo was his usual hard hitting self in disposing of a reasonable opponent in this one. He's spectacularly explosive, a brutal finisher and also a charismatic interview after the fight.

I'm going to say he gets the call by the end of the year.

Updated rankings, I still need to catch Taira's fight and the OPEN card, but I dunno when I'll be able to access those so we'll go without them for now.

Random fighters from the weekend.

Abdul Rahman Dudaev (29/Russia/BW/26-6) decided to sit in a pretty much locked triangle from Francisco Maciel and beat him up from there. I think he probably broke the dudes orbital doing it. Strange tactic tbh although he got away with it this time it's certainly risky. Doesn't go up or down in my estimation based on that performance.

Denzel Freeman (29/USA/HW/3-0) looks big, powerful and athletic for a heavyweight. I need to see him against someone who offers up a bit more resistance, though.

Talita Alencar (30/Brazil/SW/1-0) looked a bit shaky on the feet to me and also seemed to struggle to get a reliable takedown. However once she did get the takedown as a multiple time BJJ world champ she subbed her opponent in literally seconds, so if she gets better at getting it to the ground she's going to be a problem.

Roybert Echeverria (25/Venezuela/FLW/5-0) lost his original opponent and ended up fighting a 2-18 guy who he'd beaten before, but the knocked him out with a cool as fuck spinning heel kick so he at least made the best of the situation. I've seen him a couple of times now and I like the look of him.

Si Won Park (?/South Korea/LW/6-0) looked assured in the stand up and caught his undefeated opponent with a lovely timed counter to knock him out cold.

Hae Jim Park (28/South Korea/FW/8-1) scored a great kneebar to get a fairly routine win against an overmatched opponent. Looked great doing it though and his only loss is to the ranked Jung Young Lee so he's worth keeping an eye on.

In Soo Hwang (?/South Korea/MW/6-1) is very aggressive and has excellent and powerful offensive striking. I think he was maybe getting hit a bit easily to be honest, but he's got the weapons required to win most firefights when he gets into them.

Yohan Lainesse (28/Canada/WW/7-0) won the tile by beating and stopping Evan Cutts. I'm still not sure how high I think this guy's ceiling is if I'm being honest but he's got solid power and athleticism.

Quiet one this week, you'd think a few people would have run on Friday to capitalise on people being in an MMA mood for Poirier Vs McGregor but whatever.

Hexagone on Friday

- Alex Morgan (30/Canada/FW/9-4) didn't end up fighting last weekend but seems to have been booked on another French card against Baba Boundjou Nadjombe (30/Togo/FW/7-2)

- Vitoldas Jagelo (?/Lithuania/WW/7-1-2) is fighting ex Bellator title challenger Karl Amoussou.

and that's about it.
