Saygid Izagakhmaev

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Welterweight
Age : 26
Promotion - EFC
Record : 18-2

Saygid fights with a steady methodical grappling pace, but he's pretty effective at doing it. He also fights to finish and tries to do damage to people, so while his style isn't always thrill a minute, it's not like he's Danny Sabatello or Brant Moore or anything. He rebounded nicely from his loss to Carlston Harris infront of Dana and Harris' success in his UFC debut might have spurred him on a bit.

I'm not actually sure he'll be able to quite get over the hump with top level competition with his style as I'm not sure he has a plan B if it isn't working, but I'd quite like to see him given a chance. He's one of Khabib's guys, so that'll go in his favour.

Not quite hype train worthy, but worth noting from this weekend.

- Elise Reed (28/USA/SW/4-0) got another solid win in finishing DWCS veteran Hillarie Rose. I'm not quite sold on her sub defence from top position. At this point deserves a Contender Series shot though, maybe a fight against someone good off their back like Vanessa Demopoulos would be interesting.

Ekaterina Shakalova (26/Ukraine/BW/6-1) is going into the rankings after showing a decent ground game in her FEN win. Though tbh her stand up looked pretty horrible and she's only getting ranked because it's women's BW.

- Pavel Vitruk (30/Ukraine/BW/14-4-1) completely dominated Dinelo Lopes in a really good performance to bounce back from an understandable defeat against Dudaev.

- James Lyons (24/USA/FW/2-0) had a very impressive early career performance and has looked impressive in both his pro-fights I've seen so far. Not got much in the way of competition yet obviously, but I'm keeping an eye on him.

- Murat Bilarov (25/Russia/LW/5-1) scored a nice early KO and looked very aggressive in doing so.

- Khabib Nabiev (22/Russia/WW/4-0) had some excellent grappling, not quite befitting the Khabib name, but very good positional stuff and going for the finish regularly.

This week we have...

What are your thoughts on Vitor Petrino? Stumbled upon him while looking at some records on tap and watched the two pro fights of his I could get my hands on. Think he's extremely raw but his age, frame and power are significant enough for me to think he's got some promise.

second pro-fight against a 0-0 dude that's won three in a row since.

Pro-debut against 5-0 guy.

I'll check those out when he gets chance. His last two fights have been against guys who are 1-13 and 0-6, so not sure what his management are doing.

They could just be padding his record (not too shocking given that he's from the brazilian scene) or just be making the best out of a shitty situation.

Did see he was supposed to fight the guy that Navarrete beat recently, so hopefully he goes back to fighting people with a pulse soon. Preferably ones that can test his ground game as that looked rough.

- Dario Sinagoga (Ireland/LW/4-0) fights Zackery Powell (25/Canada/LW/5-0)
Powell is from across the river from my hometown and he seems like he has some potential.

https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/89974-zackery-powell

EDIT: Powell was absolutely robbed in a sloppy fight(featuring one of the worst ref stand-ups I have ever seen), where both guys gassed but Powell dominated the grappling and won all three rounds. And his opponent missed weight by 7lbs.

I thought he definitely won, but he also seems to be a full on crotch sniffer, so I'm finding it hard to be passionately upset about it. Should have tried to do more damage to secure it but deffo a robbery. You could tell that even Dario and his coaches didn't think he won.

Why even take a fight when your opponent misses by that much. That’s almost a whole weigh class above

Saw Patterson (25 LW) fight last night at Brave CV against a decent opponent and I think he showed some promise. Obviously a massive rangey guy for the weight class who uses his length fairly well. Also moderately impressed by his grappling since he was touted as a pure striker. Had some nice sweeps and escaped from a tight guillotine.

Yeah I'm over it, I just hate to see such obviously bad judging, especially with the massive weight miss. Powell is still super green, hopefully this bullshit decision lights a fire under him.

Terrance McKinney

Country - USA
Weight Class - Lightweight
Age : 26
Promotion - LFA
Record : 10-3

McKinney looks much improved to me lately. He's very reckless, but he's so fast and throws with such power that he can get away with it. Whether that'll translate to a higher level of competition is difficult to say. After winning both his last two fights in about 15 seconds, it took him just over a minute to dispose of Michael Irizarry, knocking him out from punches from within the guard, which shows what kind of power he has.

Denis Maher

Country - Belarus
Weight Class - Welterweight
Age : 26
Promotion - BRAVE
Record : 8-0

Another guy where I'm liking him mainly for having eviscerating power. He fought a sensible fight against his opponent before just utterly crushing him with a devastating uppercut. His opponent was a 9-0 guy, so it wasn't like he was in there with some mug. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Thoughts about other prospects I caught this week.

- Sam Patterson (25/England/LW/7-1-1) has a pretty decent fight against a solid opponent in Djilroun. I think he's a little over reliant on teeps when he's standing but a solid performance overall. Not sure he's an elite prospect but I wouldn't mind him fighting for the BRAVE title.

- Abdulmutalip Gairbekov (31/Russia/FW/15-3-1) Didn't get the nod from the judges against UFC vet Roman Bogatov but I thought he should have won. Showed good power standing and a good varied striking offence but does need to work at getting off his back when he's being held down.

- Badmatsyren Dorzhiev (27/Russia/FLW/6-0) I liked his takedowns and control, but I'd like him to do more with it really.

- Muhammad Mokaev (20/England/FLW/5-0) ended up with a no contest after he glanced his opponents bollocks with a kick and the opponent acted like he'd hit him with a sledgehammer.

- Abdul Karim Badakhshi (Afghanistan/BW/5-0) was struggling a bit with the Dagi wrestling but then pulled out a really nice triangle.

- Vadim Kutsky (29/Belarus/WW/16-1) looked pretty decent but gassed pretty badly and didn't look as good as a shiny 16-1 record suggests he should be.

- Caio Machado (26/Brazil/HW/5-1-1) I'm actually pretty sure got briefly got knocked out against Chris Larsen, but then came back to knock him out instead. Good power and obviously great heart.

- Justin Wetzell (29/USA/BW/7-1) showed good solid offensive grappling and power against Askar Askar to completely derail that guys hypetrain (no idea why it existed in the first place based on what I've seen of him. Came close to being on TUF this season, so he's obviously on the UFC radar.

- Edwin Cooper Jr (28/USA/FW/4-1) completely dominated his young Brazilian opponent and completely took his shine. Really dominant in the grappling, transitioning from position to position and doing good damage.

- Salahdine Parnasse - (23/France/FW/15-1-1) got a random win by RNC against Filip Pejic but I was actually a little bit disappointed in his stand up which looked much more tentative than usual, still got the job done though.

- - Ivan Erslan (29/Croatia/LHW/10-1) bounced back nicely from his loss against Narkun with a dominant win against a solid vet in Mysalia, getting his man out of there without ever looking in trouble. Difficult to see him beating Narkun in a rematch though.
