Constantin Film is getting ready to finally go to Raccoon City. Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen and Robbie Amell will star in Resident Evil, which is serving is the official origin story for the movie franchise based on the popular Capcom horror video games.

Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia and Neal McDonough are also arming up for the project, written by and to be directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down).

Constantin has made six Evil movies, which have grossed over $1.2 billion at the global box office. Milla Jovovich starred in each, with the last one being 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. The new project reboots the franchise by going to the place that first unleashed a zombie apocalypse, thanks to a bioweapon virus developed by a corporation.

The story is set on in a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998; the fictional Midwestern town is known in Evil lore as the center of a virus outbreak that destroys it and forever changes the country.

The movie will also feature characters that are central to the underlying Evil mythology. Scoledario will play Claire Redfield, who would eventually go on to become a major character in the games but in the origin is a woman heading into Raccoon City to visit her brother, Chris Redfield, being played by Amell.

John-Kamen is Jill Valentine, a member of an elite division within the city’s police department known as Special Tactics and Rescue Services. Hopper is researcher Albert Wesker, a duplicitous man serving the Umbrella Corporation’s dangerous mutant bioresearch while hiding his belief that mass extinction is what humanity needs.

Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) is Leon Kennedy, a federal counterterrorist agent, while McDonough (Yellowstone) is William Birkin, a virologist who turns ultimately turns against the Umbrella Corporation but in the process poses an even greater threat to the town.

“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time, telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feel both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences, said Roberts in a statement.

Producers on the reboot are Robert Kulzer of Constantin, James Harris of Tea Shop Productions (I Am Not a Serial Killer), and Hartley Gorenstein (The Boys). Constantin CEO Martin Moszkowicz is executive producing with Victor Hadida (Davis Film) while Alex Zhang (Greyhound) is co-executive producing. Dylan Tarason (Hell or High Water) of Constantin is co-producing. Alex Westmore and Colin Scully of Constantin Film are overseeing the project.

Sony’s Screen Gems division is planning on releasing the movie theatrically sometime in 2021.

Scodelario is best known for her work in the Maze Runner movies and for 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. John-Kamen played Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp and will appear in prestige miniseries Brave New World.

Amell is coming off appearing in Netflix’s The Babysitter: Killer Queen while Hopper is one of the stars of the streamer’s mega hit, Umbrella Academy.

Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Marvel Studios and Sony's SPIDER-MAN 3 as Doctor Strange

RgzPSfX.jpg

The good and strange doctor has been caught in the spider’s web. Benedict Cumberbatch is putting on the cloak of levitation and will reprise Marvel supernatural hero Doctor Strange for the latest Spider-Man movie installment, starring Tom Holland and being made by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.

The move puts Cumberbatch in the mentor role that was previously occupied by Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and by Samuel L. Jackson in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the latter reprising Nick Fury. The role gives Holland a chance to play opposite seasoned actors, gives Peter Parker a father figure and gives the movies extra star power while tying them to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This Spider-Man project already has some unexpected ties going for it, as it is bringing back Jamie Foxx as Electro, the actor-character combo last seen in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which featured Andrew Garfield as the web-slinging hero.

Having Strange as part of Spider-Man may help explain the return of Electro. Cumberbatch is about to begin shooting Doctor Strange sequel Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which will explore alternate realities, and some speculate therein lies the cross-section.

Spider-Man 3 is due to begin shooting in Atlanta later in October while Multiverse of Madness is also expected to begin shooting this month, although in London. It is unclear when and where Cumberbatch will shoot his scenes.

Jon Watts, the filmmaker behind Homecoming and last year's Spider-Man: Far From Home, is in the director's chair for the third installment, which Sony has dated for Dec. 17, 2021, although moviegoers have now come to expect release dates to change thanks to the pandemic.

Most of the supporting cast from the previous movies — Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori and Jacob Batalon — are expected to be on the call sheet when cameras roll in Atlanta.

Cumberbatch and Holland memorably first met up as Strange and Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War.

Anyone going to drive ins? Our cinemas are closed anyway, not that you'd get me inside one anyway, but I'm going to see a Lost Boys and Fright Night double feature tomorrow night. I haven't ever been to one before.

I've seen Lost Boys at least 50 times but only at home. Is Fright Night good? It's the original one they're showing.

Watched this last night, enjoyed it.
Saw it as well. Was not bad. Seems Sandler's Hubie character is a mixture of Canteen Boy and Waterboy.

I would be very interested in a modern day, fact-based Cleopatra film. We should also get a film about the war between Caesar and Pompeii, which was during her lifetime.

I'm rewatching it soon. I think it's streaming free on Prime. Plus, I have the novelization on Kindle I'll get to someday, lol
I don't know how I haven't seen it before, I'll keep it for a date night thing rather than Prime I think. Apparently I've seen the remake with Colin Farrell but I don't remember it at all.

Approach with caution:

I was all excited about a great fact based film about the Great Wall of China

I got dragons and Matt fucking Damon (I didn't watch it)

Hollywood doesn't like doing fact based

Yeah, I hear you. That film was trash. Sometimes they do get it right though.

Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to Star in Mad Max Spinoff FURIOSA

qZl2aYC.jpg

Warner Bros. and filmmaker George Miller are returning to the world of Mad Max: Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star in Furiosa, a standalone action-adventure feature that acts as an origin story for the powerful character first embodied by Charlize Theron in Miller’s Oscar-winning 2015 movie, the studio announced Tuesday.

Although the movie is not greenlit, the castings put the project onto the path of getting made after years of anticipation from movie fans and years of teasing by Miller, who had said he wanted to return to the character and that post-apocalyptic world.

Miller will direct, co-write and produce the project, working with longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell and their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner.

The Mad Max movies – initially launched in 1979 with Mel Gibson as the lead, Max Rockatansky – were set in a dystopian society where life is cheap, the vehicles ramshackle, the strong rule the weak, and justice, if it exists, is in your own hands.

After a trio of movies in the 1980s, Miller returned to the world with Fury Road, this time with a young Max played by Tom Hardy and the character of Furiosa, played by Theron. Furiosa proved to be more than Max’s equal and fans have been clamoring for a standalone ever since.

Taylor-Joy will play Furiosa is what is described as her genesis. It is unclear who Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen II will play.

Also unclear is the timetable for the project, which is described as being in “advance development.” Hemsworth is due to begin shooting Thor: Love and Thunder in January.

Taylor-Joy starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split opposite James McAvoy and also appeared in the follow-up, Glass. She recently wrapped shooting Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho and is currently shooting Robert Eggers' The Northman. Beginning later this month, she can be seen starring as a chess prodigy in the miniseries The Queen’s Gambit.

Hemsworth this year starred in Extraction, which proved to be one of Netflix’s biggest hits so far, while Abdul-Mateen II is currently filming the fourth installment in The Matrix series for Warners and can be seen as historical figure Bobby Seale in The Trial of the Chicago 7.
