New Details on THOR: RAGNAROK and How PLANET HULK Elements Factor In

Planet-Hulk-Thor-Ragnarok-053116-Dragonlord.jpg

A few weeks ago we got a hefty dose of info on the third solo outing for Thor with Thor: Ragnarok with a number of casting announcements and a few sparse details that tease the story. Now, you’ll recall that JoBlo broke the casting news of Mark Ruffalo back in October of last year, which has obviously been confirmed since then.

The other new additions announced last week are Cate Blanchett as Hela, Karl Urban as Skurge, Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie (and yes, even Jaimie Alexander has assured fans she’ll return as Sif).

JoBlo has now heard new rumors of how the story will play out and just how “Planet Hulk” the film will be. Well, here’s what the site knows: The film will definitely have the Planet Hulk element in it, operating as a kind of mash-up with the Ragnarok story. How Thor ends up on the planet in question is unclear, but he will definitely be involved in some gladiatorial games run by none other than Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster.

In terms of Hulk’s appearance in this portion of the film, he will be rocking the one-shoulder armor as seen in the comics, so expect him to be decked out in the familiar Planet Hulk look.

Expect a major change in the look of the God of Thunder himself for this part of the film as he will be sporting a shaved head (but not completely bald) for at least a portion of the film.

Also, expect a very different look for Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, who is traditionally a blonde-haired warrior type in the comics. For Ragnarok she’ll be wearing war paint on her face, much like a Native American warrior, which should be an interesting take on this variation of the character.

In terms of story, there’s still much in the air, but the gist of Thor’s mission in the film is that he needs to find the ultimate weapon to stop Ragnarok and reset the universe. What is that weapon and how does he gets set on that path? [Probably an Infinity Stone - DLX]

Main Villain for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Revealed

Guardians-Galaxy-2-Ayesha-Dragonlord.jpg

Director James Gunn is hip deep in production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and here’s what we know so far.

Now, outside of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, and Vin Diesel returning to their respective roles in the film, we also have some new players in town, including Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan as Tullk, and three other actors in mysterious, unknown roles, including Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell, with one of them presumably being Star-Lord’s long-lost father.

However, there’s one other star that we don’t know of yet and that’s Elizabeth Debicki, who you may know from The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Great Gatsby, and The Night Manager. Now, although JoBlo can’t confirm that she’s playing this specific role, the site can confirm who the main villain of Guardians 2 is…and it fits Debicki quite well.

Elizabeth-Debicki-Ayesha-Guardians-Galaxy-2-Dragonlord.jpg

The villain is none other than Ayesha a.k.a. Her a.k.a. Kismet a.k.a. Paragon. Yes, she’s gone by many names and had quite a few forms in the comics, but almost always as a blonde goddess-like being. Comic Book Movie broke this back in March, so credit where it’s due, but JoBlo can confirm from their own independent sources that the villain in the film is, in fact, Ayesha.

Now, the significance of Ayesha in Guardians 2 and the greater MCU is rather huge, especially when you consider that she was created by The Enclave, a group of scientists dedicated to taking control of the world, starting with the creation of the perfect genetic beings, made to restart humanity. Their first version of this, called Him, would later evolve into the character known as Adam Warlock, who escaped The Enclave. However, The Enclave made a second being, which became Her aka Ayesha, who also escapes and goes looking for Him, who she considers to be her perfect mate to start a new perfect race.

In addition to confirming Ayesha as the main villain, JoBlo can also confirm that Guardians of the Galaxy will most definitely be teaming up with The Avengers for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films. How much or how little they’ll appear is unclear.

Michael Bay Reveals the Villain for TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT

The villain of Transformers: The Last Knight was revealed Tuesday afternoon by Producer/Director Michael Bay. Megatron will return to the series after his apparent death and transformation in a previous film. Bay announced the film is officially beginning production this week.

Transformers: The Last Knight had a teaser over the weekend that said in Morse code, "I'm coming for you May 31," and apparently that message was being sent by Megatron. In the latest teaser, Megatron's face is accompanied by a strange guttural growling sound, not unlike what's been used for dinosaurs in other films. The film is due out on June 23, 2017

First Look at the Cast of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD

In only a couple of months Pottermania will take over London once again: The stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is preparing to open in the West End, and new cast photos of Harry Potter, his wife, Ginny, and his youngest son, Albus, are sure to amp up the excitement.

The pictures show Harry (Jamie Parker) 19 years older from the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Potter is now working at the Ministry of Magic and is living a seemingly sedate existence married to Ginny (Poppy Miller) with three school-age children.

We also get a glimpse of the Granger-Weasleys. Ron Weasley (Paul Thornley) and Hermione Granger (Noma Dumezweni) are now married and have a daughter Rose Granger-Weasley (Cherrelle Skeete). The producers of the play revealed that the story will focus on Harry's youngest son Albus, the "cursed child", who has to deal with his legacy.

Cursed Child is set nineteen years after the events of Deathly Hallows and though written for the stage, it is considered the eighth official story in the Potter canon. The play is a new story by J.K. Rowling, playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany. Previews start on June 7 at London’s West End at the Palace Theater with the official opening performance on July 30.

Oscar Winner Brie Larson Frontrunner to Play CAPTAIN MARVEL

Brie-Larson-Captain-Marvel-060116b-Dragonlord.jpg

After her Oscar-winning turn in Room, Brie Larson may be ready to step into the shoes of one of Marvel’s most popular female superheros.

Sources tell Variety Marvel is in early talks with Larson to play Captain Marvel in the studio’s standalone project. It is unknown where things stand in negotiations, but sources have told Variety that Larson is the first choice, and that she’s leaning toward playing the part.

No director is currently on board. Marvel, however, had always planned to have an actress lined up early, with the idea of possibly introducing her in one of its upcoming films before its Captain Marvel movie bows.

Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman are currently writing the script, which follows Carol Danvers, an air force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the super powers of strength, energy projection and flight.

Larson has been choosing both big-budget spectacles, like the upcoming Kong: Skull Island, and prestige films, such as Room and The Glass Castle, which she is currently filming. She can be seen next in Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire opposite Armie Hammer.

Miller will play i-R0k, an annoying troller in the online forums of the game.

Disney Orders Reshoots for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY to Lighten the Mood

Rogue-One-Star-Wars-Story-060116-Dragonlord.jpg

Star Wars stand-alone movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will undergo several weeks’ worth of additional shooting, sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Much of the cast and director Gareth Edwards will regroup in mid-June for another round of shooting. The move is happening after execs screened the film and felt it was tonally off with what a “classic” Star Wars movie should feel like. The pic has not yet been tested before audiences, but one source describes the cut as having the feel of a war movie.

The goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure.

Rogue One focuses on the fabled mission hinted at in Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, that of a group of rebels stealing the plans to the Death Star. The plans later end up in the hands of Princess Leia, who transfers them to R2-D2.

“This is the closest thing to a prequel ever,” a source tells THR. “This takes place just before A New Hope and leads up to the 10 minutes before that classic film begins. You have to match the tone!”

And while it’s not confirmed, some suggest that the new shooting could pave the way for an appearance of Han Solo as played by Alden Ehrenreich. The actor only recently nabbed the role of the spice smuggler and was not involved in Rogue One’s principal photography, which ran from last August to February.

Disney re-introduced audiences to Star Wars with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which garnered excellent reviews and grossed over $2 billion worldwide, becoming the third-highest-grossing movie of all time. Sources say that while Edwards’ first cut was a solid showing, it didn’t measure up to the bar set in terms of four-quadrant appeal.

“Anything less than extraordinary won’t do,” says a studio insider.

Reshoots or additional shooting are practically a given in this decade of tentpole comic book, fantasy and sci-fi moviemaking. The films are massive productions, filled with so much green-screen and fit together in a way that, more often than not, demands for shooting to fill in holes or clarify plots. Even acting deals have the shoots in mind when contracts call for “run of show” appearances, which include not just shooting anytime during production but even during postproduction, say several agency sources.

Jake Gyllenhaal to Produce and Star in Ubisoft's THE DIVISION Movie

Jake-Gyllenhaal-The-Division-2-Dragonlord.jpg

Following record-breaking sales, Ubisoft is already developing a movie based on its video game Tom Clancy’s the Division, and now looks to have an A-list star to lead the film.

Sources tell Variety that Jake Gyllenhaal is attached to star in the pic based on the hit video game that has already become Ubisoft’s fastest-selling product.

Gyllenhaal is also attached as a producer, and the studio is currently looking for a writer to pen the adaptation. Ubisoft could not be reached for comment.

The third-person shooter is set in a dystopian New York City in the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic. The player, who is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, commonly referred to as simply “The Division,” is tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak and combating criminal activity in its wake.

Early reports had the game reaching $330 million dollars in sales in just five days, and that number has surely grown in recent weeks. Ubisoft will package the project, possibly adding one more actor to the mix before taking it out to studios. It currently has Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender in post-production at Fox and New Regency as well as Splinter Cell starring Tom Hardy at Paramount.

You're probably thinking of DC's Captain Marvel, who officially goes by the name Shazam nowadays.

This is Marvel's Captain Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danvers. For years, she used to go by the codename Ms. Marvel. In 2012, she took up the mantle Captain Marvel.

GOMORRA Director Stefano Sollima in Talks for SICARIO Sequel, SOLDALO

Stefano-Sollima-Soldalo-060116a-Dragonlord.jpg

Lionsgate and Black Label Media are getting closer to a production start on Soldado, the second installment of the drug war thriller that began with 2015’s Sicario. Deadline reports that Stefano Sollima is the front-runner to direct the second installment and should have the job shortly, with talks expected to wrap up quickly. Denis Villenueve directed the first film.

Sollima is the Italian director who has made a number of memorably gritty crime thrillers but is best known for directing the Italian miniseries Gomorra and the features Suburra and A.C.A.B. (All Cops Are Bastards). Soldado was scripted by Taylor Sheridan. Black Label Media and Lionsgate are co-financing.

The sequel focuses on Alejandro Gillick, the shadowy Man on Fire-like protagonist played by Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin’s CIA agent Matt Graver, who in the first film established themselves as hellbent on hunting down cartel kingpins, no matter what.

The script by Sheridan — who wrote the original — has been very well received. Gone is the principled FBI agent character played by Emily Blunt. The subject matter is very topical, as Gillick and Graver concern themselves with what is being smuggled across the border between Mexico and the U.S. in the tunnels used to move drugs and illegal immigrants. Those tunnels also can be used to bring terrorists into the U.S.

Brian and Mark Gunn Writing Mark Millar's JUPITER'S LEGACY Movie

Jupiters-Legacy-060116-Dragonlord.jpg

Screenwriters Brian and Mark Gunn are officially writing a film adaptation of the hit comic book series Jupiter's Legacy from writer Mark Millar and artist Frank Quitely.

It was announced last year that Millar and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura had partnered to develop an adaptation of the story, but no updates had been released until today. The Gunns met with Millar yesterday and are currently hard at work on the screenplay.

Jupiter's Legacy is the story of a world filled with superheroes where the next generation decides to overthrow the status quo seizing control of the United States by force in an ill-advised attempt to improve the world around them. The comic series reflects both on the superhero genre and the nature of hope in the face of overwhelming problems, as well as the changing perspective between generations.

The Gunns are best know for previously collaborating on the story and screenplay for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. They are also related to director James Gunn best known for his work on the comics adaptation Guardians of the Galaxy.
