MMA gloves vs Boxing gloves

600 post's in 2 months...and with post's like that I se how.........LAME.........to the origanal poster.....not true at all....youve never trained mma ,if you think that

I've never played football either, but I own a football. Don't have to train MMA to get hit by a pair of MMA gloves. You can get as many pair as you want on the internet.

Larger gloves means that the impact of the glove covers more area on your face.

Physics dictates that the impact will be spread out alot more across the impacted area causing less damage in one central area.
Boxing gloves are the reason boxers can go 12 rounds. If they used MMA gloves, they'd be knockin people out left and right.

The Threadstarter is an idiot. Boxing gloves are why Ali is fucked up. He took 09384230820348 punches to the head and never went down because they DONT offer the same kind of brain rattling impact that an MMA glove does.

Physics also dictates that jet fuel (KEROSENE) can't melt steel and that a 110 story building can't pancake collapse in only 10 seconds without the aid of explosives.

But it did!

What is your theory for that Thomas Edison?

OK think of it like this: getting hit with an MMA glove would be like being hit with a baseball, and getting hit with a boxing glove would be like getting hit with a basketball. Both balls are traveling at the same speed, they both hurt the same amount, only one hits more of your face than the other.

I 100% disagree with the TS.

I would rather get hit with a 14 oz glove than an MMA glove.

With the 4 oz glove the punch is not only faster but harder.

I have never heard anyone say what the TS just said I think there is a reason for that.

I will punch the shit out of you. You don't even need to ask I'm just gonna do it asshole.

wow Just wow. Are you even aware of how wrong you are?

Wow. Only one person other than me added the grappling aspect.

No-one gives a fuck about the weight of the punches, the weight of the gloves, how many times you can punch your retarded sister in the face with each set of gloves etc. Larger gloves are a moot point as they'd hinder grappling.

Jesus...

I think everyone, like me, realized this was just "one of those threads" and decided to debate how gloves effect punches.

I have been reading a bunch of people mentioning the gloves the fighters use in MMA and boxing. Boxers usually use somewhere between 10-14 ounce gloves while the UFC fighters use 4 ounce gloves. I just wanted to clear one thing up real quick.....

A punch will hurt WAAAAY more if you got hit by a boxing glove than a MMA glove.

Fighters wear gloves to protect THEIR hands....not the opponents face. I would rather fight a guy bare fisted, and let me wear the gloves. 3 punches into the fight, if he landed good and I didn't go out, 1) he'd have broken some bone in his hand or 2) feel like he has broken some bone in his hand and will not swing as hard anymore.

The advantage of boxing gloves in NOT in the padding. The hissing sound you hear during a boxing match when a punch is thrown is the fighters breathing when they throw, not the air deflating out of the glove from the cushion. Every trained fighter is taught to breath when he punched so not to tire as fast. Thus the hiss hiss during punches. But also with the bigger glove, it is easier to block and deflect punches in defense.

Just a little info for the masses. Joe Rogan always seem to mention the "4 ounce baby gloves" during every show but he seem to always fail to mention the smaller the glove, the less powerful the impact. None of this applies to "right on the button" punches. A couch pillow can KO someone if hit "on the button". If you would like to try it out, get both types of gloves and let someone hit you in the forehead kinda light like with each. A small punch with a boxing glove will rattle you medulla ablongata.

that is the dumbest thing i ever read, i train and mma gloves hurt alot worse than boxing gloves

Rather fight tyson with mma gloves, boxing gloves cause more long term damage to the brain i.e. better to get knocked out quick with mma gloves than get hit 50 times with boxing gloves (better for the health of your brain anyway)

I see you've watched dana white defend the ufc on talk shows... i dont know if i totally agree with that, if you get knocked out that means you were hit hard enough to get shut down, whereas getting hit 50 times you get the same effect cumulatively but with lower intensity. so which one's better? who knows

My aunt was dating Oliver McCall for quite sometime. You know him right? EX Heavyweight champ....KO Lenox Lewis....cried in the rematch. I guess it has more than one reason, but that don't make me stupid. But my point was made cause some think it is the glove making that hiss. But it also helps the cardio. Maybe your AMATEUR teacher left that part out.

Too many fuckin "prove the world wrong" jerks on this site.

i think the problem with this site is to many people that dont have a clue what they are talking about such as when someone says boxing gloves hurt worse than mma gloves

I'd scold you for encouraging it, but I'm interested in the outcome.

So, continue, crazy folk.

if punches of equal force are thrown and the impact area of these punches 6 sq inches for the small glove and 12 sq inches for the big glove - doesn't it stand to reason that the punch being spread out over the 12 sq inch area will have less force per sq inch? yeah i thought so... good thread moron.

What is your theory for that Thomas Edison?

It wasn't kerosene it was the plastique explosives planted by the cia.

Wheres your messiah now Black-Rob?

Is this even a serious thread?

You know you're completely wrong right?

It seems to me you're just a boxing fan and you're trying to prove something thats obviously completely wrong as being true. Sorry but an MMA glove punch is gonna hurt more than a boxing glove. If it makes you happier most professional boxers probably hit harder than most MMA fighters. That ofcourse has nothing to do when comparing gloves however.

As someone who has trained Kickboxing for many years and has been doing MMA for the last couple I can tell for starters:

MMA gloves are 1000X harder to dodge or block than boxing gloves.

If you just put your hands anywhere near your face with a boxing glove on you will deflect almost any punch.

You try just putting your hands up with MMA gloves a punch will still slip right through your defense if you dont keep your eyes on the punch or actually evade by slipping, bobbing or weaving.

2 Things.) A Boxing glove packs more concussive power if and only if it lands on the jaw, chin or temple otherwise the force is distributed over your head.

An MMA glove doesnt have as much mass behind it but it packs the force into a smaller, more concentrated area on your face and cuts you waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier.

Old school bare-knuckle boxing matches went on for hours. The longest boxing match in history was Andy Bowen vs Jack Burke, and they didn't wear any gloves.

They fought 110 rounds, 7 hours and 19 minutes. The fight ended as a draw because both boxers were too exhausted to continue.

Just something to think about.
