MMA forgotten stories thread

Joachim Hansen beating Takanori Gomi in Shooto, 2003, same night as the Pride MW GP, I was in Tokyo that night, it was epic, an unforgettable time, two separate world class MMA events happening on the same day.

I don't think you'll ever see a fight card that stacked ever again, no matter what era,...Cro Cop, Igor, Fedor, Rampage, Wanderlei, Nogueira, Liddell, Overeem, Bustamante, Sakuraba,...that was just unbelievable.

Nice join date noob. Sorry I am bringing up facts only hard core fans would know.

It is a fact that Silva simply did not want to fight Weidman. He made a bunch of different excuses.............. even when there was nothing but rematches to be made. Andy was ducking the #1 contender for a long time.

Enjoy your ignorance.
Jesus Christ dude, are the 5 million other Anderson threads not enough? Stop cluttering a good thread with garbage

In 2008 Dream put on an amazing series of GPs, including the LW GP with such names as Alvarez, Kawajiri, Uno, Ishida, Hansen, Calvacante, and Aoki.

The GP would put a young Eddie Alvarez on the map, after he won a decision over Hansen in a brutal back and forth war, followed by putting away Kawajiri in another epic war.

This set up a match between Alvarez and Aoki in the finals, for the inaugural Dream lw championship. However, Alvarez was cut in the fight with Kawajiri and consequently wasn't cleared for the fight. In a surprising turn of events, Hansen was promoted to the main event after winning a decision over tourney alternate Kultar Gill.

Bas Rutten on commentary declared Hansen would have the advantage, as he wouldn't be nervous since he wasn't expecting to fight in the finals. He was proven right as Hansen won by tko in the first, becoming the gp winner and dream champ despite losing to Alvarez in the second round of the tournament.

Anyone got any cage rage story’s from
Back In the day

I bet there was some rough shit going on there
I remember Dan Hardy saying on a podcast how he was travelling to the arena to fight that night
And the traffic was backed up really bad
Next thing he See’s is Lee Murray flying down the hard shoulder (big no no on UK roads) in his M3 not giving a fuck

Miss the cage rage days. Went to a few shows back in the day, had some funny freak fights and some great UK prospects

Benji Radach was a solid fighter with some solid wins in the IFL. Story was one night he was scheduled for a fight in Washington in 03 and his opponent pulled out the day of the fight. He hit on a guys girl in the crowd and challenged the guy, Dan Lafever, to fight on the show. Lafever was smaller and had rumored amateur boxing experience. Lafever KOd him in the 1st.

Pride11:
Gary Goodridge put a vicious beating on Yoshiaki Yatsu...those uppercuts Yatsu took were horrible!
Yatsu was completly outmatched and beat down...who looked absolute helpless

Pride's matchmakers thought it would be a great idea to have Yatsu rematch Gary at Pride16...Yatsu said yes...Gary said yes...WTF?!?!?

After it was more than obvious that the first win for Gary wasn't a fluke...they saved Yatsu by throwing in the towel after a failed TD attempt
