MMA forgotten stories thread

Matt Serra was invited to compete in Pride9 against Johil de Oliveira but the bout was called off at the last minute when Oliveira was burned in a pyrotechnics accident backstage.
Ouch

Lol. The title is forgotten stories not forgotten made up delusions.

Weidman became #1 contender July 11th 2012 and was out with an injury for the next 6 months before coming back to fight Anderson July 6th 2013. Your math is horrible since thats less than a calender year in total. 6 month of which Weidman couldn't fight.

Cool story though bro. Way to follow the golden rule of not letting facts get in the way of a good story, lol.
Yeah, I recall no ducking.

In 2008 Dream put on an amazing series of GPs, including the LW GP with such names as Alvarez, Kawajiri, Uno, Ishida, Hansen, Calvacante, and Aoki.

The GP would put a young Eddie Alvarez on the map, after he won a decision over Hansen in a brutal back and forth war, followed by putting away Kawajiri in another epic war.

This set up a match between Alvarez and Aoki in the finals, for the inaugural Dream lw championship. However, Alvarez was cut in the fight with Kawajiri and consequently wasn't cleared for the fight. In a surprising turn of events, Hansen was promoted to the main event after winning a decision over tourney alternate Kultar Gill.

Bas Rutten on commentary declared Hansen would have the advantage, as he wouldn't be nervous since he wasn't expecting to fight in the finals. He was proven right as Hansen won by tko in the first, becoming the gp winner and dream champ despite losing to Alvarez in the second round of the tournament.
I was triggered when Hansen lost!

I remember the first round of Buscape vs Azeredo as being epic grappling clinic. Also watch Uno Vs Aoki to wach how bad Uno did not wanna get submitted ahahaha

Goddamn why anyone would wear sneakers vs Aoki is beyond me

Kaoklai Kannorsing was basically a welterweight muay thai fighter who made big headlines by fighting guys who were 100 and 200 lbs bigger than he was.

He defeated 6 foot 5 280 lbs alexei ignashov

Here he defeats Mighty Mo who was 100 lbs heavier.

Here he destroys Denis Kang

And the massive (ridiculous) height and weight disadvantage against Choi Hong Man was too much to overcome.

Jerome Lebanner destroys Nicholas Pettas. Ijn one of the craziest finishes of all time...During the last knockdown, the referee didnt do a good job after he waved off the fight of controling nicholas, who sort of "came to" and tried to keep fighting jerome who was already celebrating. Nicholas is about to attack, and hesitates for a moment, and Jerome in a split second decision to protect himself, knocks nicholas out again. Jerome claims they both laugh about this today.

BS-Ping now, tho...
Michael Bisping is a national treasure and we are all lucky to have had him.

Shogun had a fight at HW w mark coleman and broke his arm defending on a takedown. The ref notices and stops the fight, but Mark didnt see it and he cant understand what happened and is not sure whats going on. At this point Shoguns brother Ninja slide into the ring, and Mark, still in agression mode squares up with him. Things are about to simmer down when Wanderlei, who was in the crowd at the time, comes in to attack mark, but Phil Baroni who was cornering mark shoots on wand and takes him down, and then Mark steps on his neck.

Footage in link below.

The interesting story of Bart Vale

https://prommanow.com/2017/07/21/the-incredibly-true-fake-legend-of-shootfight-champion-bart-vale/

"
When “legend” Bart Vale came back from Japan he became a popular figure by using some of the same techniques these shams did to sell merchandise and teach comic book readers mail order video classes that would get people beaten up in the cage. He had competed in an organization in Japan called Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi. This organization was one of the first to adopt a realistic style of sports entertainment that simulated shoot fighting. It was like a scripted Pancrase style fight with a predetermined winner. Something Vale forgot to mention when he came back home.

The internet wasn’t the debunking tool it was today and people like Vale could make these claims without much fact checking. Hell, you could buy a belt back then and show it to someone with a story of a Russian tournament of 128 fighters that you won by knockout in the first round of every match and as long as you had the belt they would believe you. Frank Dux bought a trophy, fought in a tournament where they used a radar gun, and got a movie out of those claims. In this case, Vale brought back his scripted accomplishments and presented them as real which was dishonest, misleading, and downright evil."

I remember seeing this guy in Black belt magazine all the time, touted as the toughest of the tough.

The thing is unlike alot of the guys in the magazine who never would prove themselves in a real fight he started having a bunch of real mma fights in kickboxing and mma where he got his ass kicked...bad,

But at least he tried. Maybe he was delusional and believed his own hype,i dont know, but he had more balls than the rest of these guys who never tried to prove their claims.

It should be noted its before his time in ifl

Yep. Should be noted that the hitting on the guys girl part is also rumor.

But it is fact that between 99-06ish there were plenty unregulated small time Mma fights where guys would fight with little to no experience.

Travis Fulton was basically on a list where he’d get called every Thursday to fight on either Friday or Saturday.

speaking on that

Extreme Challenge was Iowa MMA at its finest.

Dennis Hallman put Hughes to sleep in a mid-day hotel ballroom show.

Youd think losing to the same guy twice would have had more implications than it did. But it didnt.
