Missing Khabib

Not really. Can't think of any fighters I sit and think about missing unless they're still fighting but haven't fought in a while.

He was a star though, which the company seems to be getting lower on as the months pass by.

It has to do with “insert my completely subjective opinion” lol. You say it like it’s a fact.

Khabib gets hate because there’s a large cohort of fans who’ve been jonesing to see him lose, and they simply will never forgive him for depriving them of that opportunity. As a form of retaliation they attempt to tarnish his legacy at every opportunity. That’s why his name comes up completely unprompted. “Fighter X is already greater than Khabib” etc.
that’s completely wrong. people love a winner. but they hate hype. when they see people hyping up khabib as a “legendary goat,” they react by thinking “wait a minute, that guy only had 3 defenses, and he won the belt from some random shoe salesman.” it’s like a push back reaction. same thing happened with izzy. izzy was actually pretty good. but he was way overhyped. so instead of saying “izzy had a good run,” people say “he lost 1/3 of his title fights, got gifted decisions, he was never that good.” it nothing to do with people just being haters.

Straight up, man.

You NEVER actually saw GSP, Lesnar, Ronda, Silva, or Jones 10-15 years ago in real time, did you?

Khabib.. You can’t be serious?

Apart from Conor the people I just named ruled the ppv sales back in the day.

Anytime those people fought it was a big deal. UFC 100 had Lesnar, and GSP defending their belts. And that scrub Jones was on the prelims, iirc.

The UFC made a brand new program called “Primetime”. 3 one half hour episodes on regular/cable TV (Spike iirc).

Once episode per week leading up to UFC 94. And the biggest fight in the UFC up until that time. A TRUE Super Fight. The LW champ moving up to fight the WW champ.

“To the death.. Georges”.

Back then they used to have “phone in polls”. LIVE so you could “vote” on the massive shit that was about to come down. 66% said Penn was going to beat GSP.

The reasoning was. Because GSP won a split with BJ in 2006?

Anybody with a clue SAW BJ piece GSP up in round 1. Battered and bleeding.. But GSP rebounded and won rounds 2, and 3. And won the fight by SD.

Thanks for telling everyone reading this thread that your “join date” does NOT jive with your knowledge of the UFC.

True story.

People looked forward to each card, back in the day. Because we only saw one card per month if we were lucky. Until TUF exploded.

Then we started seeing “FN” level cards once a month or some shit . As well as the PPV.

OGs remember the “Pearl of the Palms”. And the cards at “Mandalay Bay”.

Rooms with about 5000 seats.

What did Khabib have to do with ANY of that?

Believe it or not. Neither Conor, or Khabib invented the Zuffa era UFC.

BJ vs GSP 1 and Tito/Chuck rivalry was what got me into MMA, every time I think of being a kid watching fights with my family who introduced me to it, I see a bloody faced GSP who also became my favorite fighter ever haha. Thanks for the memories!

Lmao, utter nonsense. Did people love Floyd Mayweather? Winners can be both loved and hated, Khabib was hated by a big segment of the fan base who wanted nothing more than to see him lose, much like Floyd in boxing. That’s a stone cold fact.

I talked shit on khabib during the Conor Vs khabib years long build up. His legacy has aged so, so well and it’s sad that Conor’s bum ass is still active and he is not.

The sport is much less without him

That is a thibk he talked little but with point and meaning these fighters these days talk alot and nothing meanigngfull come out of if

I’ve been watching the UFC since since 1999-2000. Khabib is the only fighter that has made me feel this way after they retired. It is what it is.

Is it just me or the UFC isn’t the same without Khabib? The aura that he had was something else. The anticipation of his fights, the domination, the hilarious commentary.. shit just isn’t the same. It was a dark day when he left the sport.

Khabib, The Beloved.

I get it, nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Those OG fighters like GSP and Silva had a magic to 'em that makes you think they're irreplaceable. UFC 100? Absolute fire. But let's not act like Khabib didn't bring his own brand of fireworks to the octagon.

Khabibs fight with McGregor wasn't just another card; it shattered records. We're talking 2.4 million PPV buys (UFC 100 1.6 million PPV buys). Plus, Khabib and Conor landed in Google's top 10 trending sports searches of 2018. The Eagle had worldwide appeal, not just MMA bubble fame.

So yeah, the Zuffa era was amazing, but guys like Khabib pushed things to a whole other level in the mainstream.

floyd mayweather is a loudmouth who talks a ton of shit, if you haven’t noticed. it’s part of his business strategy to have people hate him. he’s also a guy with a ton of defenses, and proved himself repeatedly over many years at the top. he’s not remotely comparable to khabib.

people do love winners. look at michael jordan. total winner. one of the best ever. great personality. no scandals. everyone loves him. anyone who hates jordan probably has something wrong with them.

…but khabib is not the michael jordan of mma. he might be like the andrew bynum of mma or something. if khabib kept his nose clean and kept winning for longer, who knows what could have been.

I don't get all the Khabib hate, the guy was a straight shooter and a phenom. To each their own I guess.
Almost all the hate is for his retarded fanbase that can't shut up about him being the goat.

Khabib - Conor was a peak fun UFC, everything is a downhill after

But his retirement was perfect. Loss of his father. And how he acted after retirement. An inspiration for younger generation.

Almost perfect as GSP
