Miocic's resume is overrated

washed up Overeem dropped him and instead of tko'ing he tried to choke him out, who later got knocked out by taps.
the rest are also washed up, Ngannou's resume before fighting Stipe is better because he beat blaydes twice and rozenstruik along with washed up fighters
Cormier was around 40 when he fought and his cardio failed him in his last 2 fights

Its true. A few of us have said it for years. All the big names he beat were past their prime/declining rapidly.

They were decent wins in the sense that those guys still beat all the newer fighters coming up except Stipe and then Ngannou.

IMO Ngannous resume is just as weak.

Their biggest wins are vs each other.

Blaydes is not a great win IMO. It's OK cuz he is one of the best in the current era but he wouldn't even be top 10 in the previous era 2010-17ish

The only guy now that could hang with the following names in their prime is Tom Aspinall

Werdum
Reem
Fedor
Nog
Crocop
Cain
JDS
Arlovski
Carwin
Mir
Stipe
Barnett
Brock
Randy
Tim
Ricco
Ngannou

pavlovich, volkov, and blaydes would murder prime carwin/arlovski/sylvia/mir/ricco/randy. hell, tai tuivasa would probably murder prime frank mir tbh

How you leave Cain off Werdum's list lol

You can definitely make that argument, but I’d say Stipe Miocic is more of a product of his era. Personally, I never found him all that impressive, but I’m not going to sit here and pretend he didn’t fight the competition that was put in front of him. You absolutely can’t blame him for that.

I put it as a 3-way race between Werdum, Cain, and Stipe.

I believe Werdum was for a few years the best HW the UFC has ever had. He really fucked up in that fight against Stipe with the world's worst tactics. Super amateur to charge Stipe and get knocked out, and I honestly think he was the best UFC HW at the time. He had reached a point where he finally peaked in his mid-thirties because he added good striking to his BJJ. The problem is- his peak didn't last long, and he wrecked this portion of his career with the stupid charging of Stipe.

The second best is Cain, but he has the same problem- his peak didn't last long.

Third is Stipe at his peak.

Charging ahead, arms wide, chin-forward is poor tactics? Who knew?

pavlovich, volkov, and blaydes would murder prime carwin/arlovski/sylvia/mir/ricco/randy. hell, tai tuivasa would probably murder prime frank mir tbh
Absolutely not.

Prime Pav got beaten by shell of Reem. And plz don't say Pav wasn't prime. His game and skillset has not changed.

Pav and Volkov might beat AA but that's it.

Ricco and Randy were much better wrestlers with better striking than Blaydes. Blaydes is merely a bit bigger that's it.

Frank Mir subs all of them. Randy decisions all of them. Ricco wins decision or TKO via gnp on all of them. Carwin KOs all of them.

Sylvia KOs or decisions all of them.

Tai Tuivasa would likely lose to Randleman and Coleman for crying out loud

Those 3 were absolute machines. Wouldve loved to see any of them in their prime vs Fedor or Jones in their primes

Only man to ever defend the HW belt three times.
Sort of.

Randy beat Mo Smith for the belt and then won 4 HW UFC fights before losing to Barnett.

Mo Smith for the belt
Randleman
Rizzo
Rizzo

That's 3

general skills across all divisions are miles ahead of where they used to be. submission defense and takedown defense especially. in the era you're pretending was better, fights were stopped quick as hell, no one knew how to defend submissions, and fights were basically over as soon as someone got full mount. that's not the case anymore.

if you haven't been paying attention, that's on you.

imo every heavyweight resume tends to be overrated simply because it has always been a shallow division, so there isn't a whole bunch of good fighter to beat, that gets a disproportionate amount of attention because they are the biggest.

Stipe's is pretty easy to pick apart, looking at his top wins
Arlovski and Overeem had both gotten knocked out a bunch of times prior and since, sometimes by not great fighter.
Hunt had gotten outgrappled many times prior and since, sometimes by much smaller guys.
Werdum is a great win on paper, but didn't face Stipe with the best game plan to say the least.
JDS, Ngannou all also have a win over Stipe, with the differing result arguably being the result of them being closer to their prime, still great wins tho.

I would say that JDS, despite being a worst overall fighter imo, has a better resume than Stipe
Werdum, Struve, Cro Cop, Yvel, Gonzaga, Nelson, Carwin, Cain, Mir, Hunt, Stipe, Rothwell, Ivanov, Tuivasa, Lewis
>
De Fries, Nelson, Gonzaga, Hunt, Arlovski, Werdum, JDS, green Ngannou, DC x2

His resume is underrated actually. He hardly got any recognition until he set the record. His wins over Cormier stand up to anything Francis has done. His win over Francis is also impressive given his sheer size and strength. Aside from an early loss to Struve, Stipe only lost to champions, and he has beaten all of them except Jones.

He's the UFC HW GOAT but not the overall HW goat... Fedor is. The UFC hype machine has been trying to erase Fedor's legacy because he didn't fight in the UFC. Prime for prime, I would have JDS and Cain beating Stipe too (JDS already did 1x past his prime).
