Well boys the provision to pay the military in the event of a shutdown only included the Big Four of the DoD..not thered headed step child in DHS...looks like the USCG will operate without pay until an agreement to pay us is reached...

After 16 years of service I'm pretty pissed at our lawmakers...not one in Congress asked about us? And today they had a chance to fix it but only were in session for 4 minutes .....

I can afford to miss a couple paychecks..wife almost makes as much as me and we got savings..my E-4&5s maybe not so much

Yeah, Burkina Faso is one of the most resource poor countries on Earth. But in a matter of a few years, he made them food independent, drastically increased literacy and life expectancy, and institutionalized rights for women. So he did okay imo.

Hmm. They're similar in that they fight for their countries without ideological purpose or independent thought. But US military members are robed in sentiments of being arbiters of world justice and protectors of democracy, as silly as that may be, while Nazi soldiers were not to my knowledge purposed with anything but national domination.

The interesting parallel is that the American army was probably only SLIGHTLY less racist than the German Army. At least the Germans didnt have a problem with different ethnicity fighting along side their regular forces.

I am in the process of getting my fat ass back into shape so I can submit a package for CG OCS. Finally tired of civilian life and want back in but with slightly less bullshit and no trips to the desert.

It's a different kind of bullshit, but there's bullshit. It's the military with all the BS that comes with it, but none of that DoD money (or like right now...a fucking paycheck)

No. I think the majority on men in the United States wanted to fight in WWII. Japanese after Pearl Harbor and the Nazis in Germany. German U-boats sank a lot of American ships off the U.S. East coast. The U.S. Army in WWII had both black and Japanese soldiers. Yes, there was segregation, but both groups performed very heroically. Blacks were also admitted in the Air Corps and flew B-17 fighter escort missions.

38% volunteered for WW2, I guess you got a stat that indicates that many draftees were unwilling? Kind of goes against what I've read.

I never said military personnel are "too dumb" for anything. I merely posted a quote (by a military commander) commenting on the autocratic and non-ideological nature of national militaries. The system promotes obedience and discourages dissenting thought.

I don't disagree with those words regarding obedience. It's the military, you do have to follow orders. It is what it is. Some like it some don't but we don't go anywhere without political approval, which we have no influence, nor do I have anything to say about public sentiment.

But I have family who were Vietnam veterans and I prefer our population support the military members.
