How come Tyson raped someone and seems most fans like him while Jones didn't do anything as bad and is widely hated?

Did Tyson do anything to rehabilitate his image after the rape case, did people never care or did they stopped caring over time? Is there any chance for Jones to gain the love of the fans?

To be clear I'm not trying to go: "Jon is a great guy, never raped anyone", I'm Jones a hater, but I'm curious about this.
Would be great if any oldheads who saw Tyson in his prime have some thoughs on this.

Boxing and mma are not the same and do not share the same fanbase. Tyson was also champion during a time if you went to the HW champs hotel room at 2am if you left unbattered you got what you got

alot of people simply don't believe Tyson raped her. Also, Tyson's public image has softened over the years, he went through a villain phase for many years and was very unpopular, starting even before the rape case and even before he lost the title against Buster Douglas.

The other reason is simply time, memory has a finite lifespan. People often don't hold grudges forever. There will be some who never will forget because some that's how some folks are. People still hate Muhammad Ali for rejecting white america, for avoiding the draft, for calling Joe Frazier a gorilla and a lot of other reasons. Other people still love him. Fame is fickle and not everyone has forgotten Tyson's rape case.

The main thing I think is that Tysons wife is believed to have set him up so she could get paid.

Aside from that Tyson has always been seen as a mentally unstable person, he seemingly has tons of regrets, was taken advantage of by many people and of course he did hard time.

Jones seems to be mentally stable so he comes off as more of a calculating sociopath. Plus he seemingly has gotten away with nearly everything with only a few slaps on the wrist.

To top it off he talks about God and the Bible but his actions show him as a person who doesn't care about those beliefs at all so it all looks like an act. Where as Tyson seemed like an honest vicious animal

I'd say 99% of those who remember that Tyson episode viewed him as "Simple Mike," and that he didn't actually do it

I don't think time (alone) was much of a factor in Tyson. His public image (and imo his personality) have done a pretty heard U-turn. He's someone who openly criticizes his past self and has changed himself for the better. Pretty much any one that has followed Tyson at all the last 15 or so (+) years can't help but like the guy, or at least see that he's truly changed. But like you say, there are still at ton of people that just remember brash young asshole and a rape case.

Jones, on the other hand, has a solid decade+ plus of just repeatedly being a liar, hypocrite, shitty person, and fake Christian apologizer (to a nauseating degree), so it makes sense that he's hated on.

He did reinvent himself that is a big part of it but I have to think that he wouldn't be able to do that if everyone thought he was a rapist, not sure about that part.

=-Well for starters the UFC's Fanbase is super different than the Boxings's fanbase.
Which for boxing sake i Thank the Lord everyday for cause the Double standards that exist from
within the UFC is horrible to say the least.

unlike the UFC fanbase Boxing fans are diverse and thus everyone has a different views
and thus we get to see all sides all angles represented equally. Mike tyson's fans all come from every part
of the world, different religions, cultures, countries, cities, towns, etc etc. Mike tyson can go hang out with Biden
or trump and get love from both parties, can go on a hollywood oscar party and can stand out and right after
go to the worst hoods and get embraced, Super big in the video game fighting game community
In the Martial Arts world hes a legend like bruce lee, in MMA hes loved, soccer, basketball, Muslims love him Christians
love em etc etc etc. You get my point.

So if any accusations come up on a boxer you best believe all sides are gonna be represented equally/ fairly.
if manny had accusations hes gonna get support, tank davis, deontay wilder Floyd mayweather he gonna get support , canelo, etc etc.

UFC ......<36> it dont work like that.
its like a Frat club.
The ONLY and ONLY reason jon jones gets any sort of a pop is cause hes the Best and
thats literally it. when he retires I know for a fact you guys are gonna try your best to bury him
and pick apart his legacy.

its so obvious with how everyones glazing Tom aspinal. you got 3000 threads
trying to dismiss jones accomplishments and putting khabib gsp and fedor over as the true GOATS lol
Yall were mad jon jones was over Islam as p4p..... that makes no sense.

I believe he was falsely convicted of that. One of the most notable things about Tyson down through the years is that he seems brutally honest. He says things about himself, things that he's done or thought about doing, that make him look terrible. It almost seems like he's incapable of lying intentionally. Considering this tendency of his, it seems even less likely that he'd continue to lie about it after he's already done the time for it.

The idea that if you make any mistakes in life, you're barred from talking about the Bible, says that you probably don't know much about how many absolutely disturbed figures are in the Bible. Many of whom have done infinitely worse and turned their lives around.

Kind of the entire point. Coming from disparaged backgrounds and deciding to make a decision for your betterment.

All religions or spiritual traditions have stories like this. This idea that you need to live a perfect, holy, saintly life to even be able to talk about spiritual things is comical.

No person is without sin or mistakes. It's how someone comes back from them that makes the difference.

The average person will see a person who's done some bad things and label them as this villain character forever, but history shows that is very far from the case. People grow, people change.

None of us know what is done by these people to correct themselves, to improve their lives and that of their family. We only see the 1% because its often the negative that is plastered all over the media. We dont see the full picture, certainly not enough to speak in absolutes about something as complicated as human psychology.

None of us have enough information to truly understand the psychology of someone like Jones.

I think he's a case of angel on his shoulder, devil on his back. He's done some bad things, but he's not a bad guy. There's a lot of cases like that, especially when you dig into the alcoholism / substance abuse archives of psychotherapy and psychiatry.

Even bitter ass DC said he has some good in him. People just need to realize that humans aren't as black and white as their shallow analysis is suggesting.

I'll say this though, if you think Jones is a sociopath, you're gonna be in trouble when you come across the real deal.

Did Mike ever admit it ? Was he drugged and drunk ?
Is it proven without a doubt ?

Mike is a geniune person on youtube. He speaks from the heart and people love him. He didn't forget who he is and stayed humble.

Fair post. Guilty or not, he was accused and convicted. Jones and Conor have been buried for less than that. He also bit part of a fighter's ear off. Yet he's almost universally adored on here.
