News Miesha Tate says that she spent 98% of her return fight purse covering training expenses

Someone is looking for attention like Batista pretending to be broke before the all Drax role etc. After such a big run in WWE... Some people are either just dumb and don't know how to manage money or they lie like this to have attention.

She might have done something like Buys did. Had a ton of expenses to move back to Vegas and put that on her "camp expenses".
Or/and maybe she owes a bunch of back taxes.

What did he do exactly

Go look at what it costs to be on the PGA tour.

```
It costs in the region of $110,000, as a minimum, to play on the PGA Tour. For players who compete in global events, it is estimated that costs will be in the region of $200,000.
To play on the less prestigious Nationwide Tour will still cost $75,000.
It’s cut-throat and there is no guarantee of a paycheque. In a four-day tournament after day two, 50% of the field fails to reach the score required to keep playing through the weekend, this is called the ‘cut‘.
If you fail to make the cut, the golfer will earn nothing at all.
They still have all of the expenses for travel, accommodation, and the fees for their caddy.
```
Everyone who makes it on to the pga tour is offered an equipment sponsorship deal. The rest is solid and an accurate description of their situation.

To be fair you can still get a 3rd party sponsorship deal in the UFC. You just can't promote them on the cards. But if you have a social media following you can still have sponserships. I would imagine a podcast advertising deal would pay the same as a PGA golfer who doesn't make the cut.

I was there for 3 days playing. I honestly don't know how the pro's do it. I was sweating bullets and stressed out the entire time. It was not fun. I moved tables a few times as the tables consolidated and I was just waiting to get a real pro at the table that would wipe me out.
I have spent more time than I care to admit grinding out a tourney, I can't do it anymore. You are right that the anxiety is a killer. Not worth it. I'd rather pay local tourneys with a $60 buyin and 8 hour time investment.

Buys moved to vegas and spent pretty much all her show/win money on that. Plus took a loan to afford the move.
So she went into the fight with all the purse money already alocated to pay for that.

Shit that's worse than participating in a World Series of Poker tournament... I knew I had yet another reason to hate golf.

I played in one of the tournaments with a 10k buy in and made it far enough to get 17k back. Not sure the 7k was worth the stress.

I've played WSOP. I barely made the money twice and went out on Day 2 once... no $.

I've been playing since I was young. My mother and uncle were high end players when I was a kid and through college. I played a final table in Tahiti and took 2nd (I should have won, but got outdrawn on the 2nd to last hand and then had to shove).... Tahiti was $164K. I've taken down some decent size online tournaments until Black Friday hit and I had $13K seized for about 8 months and then it was released.

Online poker is now legal again in the U.S.A. within states or state consortium that have agreements. Hopefully we will be back playing on the big international sites soon enough. I used to make more in poker each year than my career. I would like to see it all come back.

I was in Las Vegas until last night, drove back to SoCal. I won $3K on a 5-10 NL table at the Bellagio the first night and then my wife decided I had better things to do... and who I was I to argue.

It's weird having to wear a mask while playing. I still play illegally online at Ignition Poker.

If she had money she wouldn't be fighting. She clearly is very bad with money.

BTW, organic food is a huge waste of money. 0 evidence it is even better for you.

Conor McGregor has a ton of money and still fights.

Great logic bud.

Doesn’t make any sense, unless she has tax problems.

I'm inclined to side with Varner on this.

From mmamania.com, she said :
“My whole fight purse was gone, show and win for this fight, I at least spent … it had to be about 98 percent at least, so maybe I walked away with a little bit,” Tate told SiriusXM. “But of $200,000? Yeah I’m just lucky I made a bonus. I’m serious, that’s how much it cost. You take taxes off the top, 70 percent of my fight purse is gone immediately, right off the top. So I have 30 percent to work with and that 30 percent I take to buy my organic foods to get whatever training gear, my heart rate monitors, whatever other things that I need to invest in to make the camp go well and it’s expensive.”

I don't believe her at all when she says " 70% of my fight purse is done immediately off the top".
Taxes maybe 30%, then management fees etc. but there's no way that's 70%. If it is, she's got a shit deal. Also....years in Singapore getting no doubt paid VERY WELL with ONE Fc? People in Singapore are generally very well paid. I think she's very likely a millionaire, for sure.
How much is a fcuking polar heart rate monitor these days? And how come you need to buy a new one every fight?

I don't now why this is some sort of revelation. Most fighters probably lose a lot of money fighting; she's doing better breaking even.. All those 10-50 K purses are not nearly enough to cover expenses.

Varner is such a retard, as are all these chick hating homosexuals on Sherdog.

First off- besides help training her, I hope Johnny " angel" is bringing something to the table besides that. If he is - I apologize.

2nd - as far as wmma goes , Tate brings alot to the table ( and appears, momma Tate has alot of fight left in her) so she should be compensated. This is what alot of people dont understand- if you want to do this the right way with the proper recipe, it's tough to dole out 10 slices of a pie .....which is cut into 8.

To the certain percentage of the roster where perks and " unseen" money ( I mean that , legally), life is great.

...and I really dont hold anything agsinst ufc cause they have to look downstream and deem what's sustainable over a 700 fighter roster ( give/ take).

Fighters need to promote themselves and not in a nice / humble way. This is the world we live in - especially cage fighting and the kind of demographic that accompanies it.
