Microsoft is Buying Activision Blizzard $68.7B ***Update: Acquisition Finalized***

It'll be surprising if consoles exist in the next decade. Hardware costs alone will have people questioning if its better just to go Pc. Then add in Sony porting exclusives to Pc.

people can't seem to figure out if pc gaming is dying to consoles or vice versa.

the new ps5/xbox were absolutely incredible deals in terms of $/hardware.

This doesn’t make any sense. At launch two years ago the consoles were much better bang for your buck than a comparable PC.

Agreed, but his overall point of consoles not existing in ten years is probably true. Gaming PC's as well. The future is cloud gaming. You won't need anything but a TV and an internet connection to play games. All the various hardware will not be a concern for the consumer. It will be like cable TV, where you just pay for subscriptions to the Xbox/Playstation/Nintendo/etc networks, that will just stream games. It's already happening. They'll just sell you tiers of performance. The PS7 and the like, will just be a subscription based network model.

The hardware boxes are going away.

One day sure but none of this is happening in 10 years.

10 years is an eternity in this industry. Cloud gaming is already here. TV's are now coming packaged with modern(albeit select) gaming titles. No hardware required. In ten years, I can't imagine it not being the norm.

Wont even be close to the norm in ten years. They are already working on the next Xbox and PlayStation and MS already canceled their cloud gaming device. That’s a big clue that even they know it’s not the right time.

Consoles are losing market share to Mobile and Pc. CPU and GPU in the current consoles are upscaled three generation old hardware after two years on the market. Profit generation this console cycle isnt reliant on exclusive game title launches but instead on subdivision monthly payment services. Making the initial cost appear cheaper where the lifespan cost results in you paying the full hardware retail price and more.

Cloud gaming will only work for the console gamer market in high population centers to suburbs. It'll never take hold in the Pc gaming market space for the latency cant be overcome.

well, that was a quick backpedal from "Hardware costs alone"

fwiw, i agree with this point, but it's a bit far from the last post.

Why does Nvidia care?

No clue but I saw someone online mention that at one point they said they didn't care and have now changed their minds. Not sure if it's true or not though.

Why is this not okay for Microsoft when everyone does this? Is it a matter of scale?

correct

Why is this not okay for Microsoft when everyone does this? Is it a matter of scale?

i mean, few do this (and arguably, no one does it like m$) but yes, it's about scale.

Why does Nvidia care?
Negotiating with multiple companies to have them build their games for Nvidia hardware and drivers in mind is a better option than having to accept Microsoft's terms.
