Microsoft is Buying Activision Blizzard $68.7B ***Update: Acquisition Finalized***

Sony should have taken the 10-year deal when it was on the table.

Now I think MS knows they can pass this without having to make that concession. They already signed deals with Nintendo & NVIDIA's GeForce Now, but without a contract, it's going to be entirely at their discretion whether or not Sony players can play COD in the future.

Welp

At least Sony always has the option to bring this gem back

Would the CMA have not been an obstacle if the UK hadn’t left the EU following Brexit?

Not 100% but the CMA is the newer version of Competition Commission (previously was the Monopolies and Merger Commission) and Office of Fair Trading which were meged together (in 2014) to make the CMA and they were around for a few years previously and they handled the same kind of issues before Brexit was a thing.

The 10 year deal is still on the table , the Microsoft VP has a copy of it with him at all times supposedly ready for Sony to sign / negotiate with.

If I'm Sony here's what I do in the worst case scenario of them losing this case.

Take the 10 year deal and seriously consider putting it on PlayStation Extra hoping that everyone will stay within the ecosystem. The whales can still purchase all the extra stuff. They'll lose their first time buy sales but it might be better than losing hundreds of thousands of CoD players.

In the mean time they have to be cooking up something spectacular, I can't imagine just waiting 10 years to expire and without an alternative. Either that or they work closely with EA for some Battlefield projects and have PS6 engineers aide them.

I think it's a waste of time putting it on PlayStation extra and focusing on that. Thousands of people aren't going to leave their gaming eco system over having to purchase a $70 COD game and at the same time start paying for a subscription. Almost every COD player I know is a very casual gamer and would laugh at the idea of now having to pay monthly just to play COD.

I think Sony's only option if this deal gets blocked is to reach out to Bungie for help on developing a new FPS shooter. They are the only company I believe who can do it because IMO no one has developed an FPS that feels as good as their games do.

Already in the works. You reckon Goliath catches David flat-footed? Microsoft has and has had every conceivable advantage over Sony since space entry. But Sony is an innovator and storyteller; Microsoft not so much. They'd be a Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega-level duo were Microsoft to see to gaming infrastructure and Sony the games themselves. Big picture when gaming machines obsolesce, all that's left will be games, peripherals, and services/UX in how you access those games. Perennial underdog Sony is poised to do just as well in that landscape. I got shades on the future's so bright.

FTFY.

Might as well just give it to them. This gen is turning into another PS4/One.

LOL as if Sony has a choice. They tried everything they could to sabotage the deal. They're helpless observers.

Helpless observers sounds a lot like Microsoft every generation lmao.

Oh, the off-topic tears of a fanboy.

I think pointing out the lack of parity between the two is on topic. Microsoft desperately needs this to stay relevant.

I love performative actions so much. As if scanners and printers or e docs don't exist lol.

Bungie is already on tap for a new game that would likely be PS exclusive, they will be busy for the better part of the next decade.

LOL at thinking consoles are staying relevant.

Tens of millions? I doubt that. Why do you think they’d lose that many? PS5 has 32 million units sold and ps4 around 110 million. Them losing half of their player base over a game seems absurd even for something as big as CoD.

Yea that's why I just think they should reach out for help with building the game and getting the shooting mechanics right. Don't think that will take up to much of Bungies time. Then let another studio take it from there.
