Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

That is just one example. Sony has horded a bunch of good games and all the Sony fanboys did was gloat. Regardless of what happens with Bethesda's content it's not like there isn't going to be anything to play on the PS5. This was also true with the Xbox last gen even though Sony had a handful of better exclusives.
Again, bringing on a smaller developer that you’re already working with and giving them the resources to produce games just for you is worlds different than buying arguably the largest third party publisher out there and hoarding franchises that were long available on any and every console.

It’s a scary precedent that has just been set.

Who gets excited when Disney buys yet another IP?

It sucked dick at launch.

Couldn't care less if its great now.

Perhaps they should have kept developing it until it was great before launching it.

All gamers have access to an Xbox if they so choose. You do too. It's totally fine for the industry. It just might not be great for Sony, which, let's face it, is your only real concern. Quit feigning concern for the industry at large. You're just mad because it's power move by Microsoft and not Sony. You would not give one flying fuck about "the industry", if roles were reversed. You'd be laughing your ass off, while posting "Craig" memes.
I already said someone who wasn’t planning to buy an Xbox. Not concerned with your opinion in the slightest.

So no one with any objectivity can tell me why this is good?

I don’t need the usual shills shilling.

Does anyone who wasn’t already going to buy an Xbox look at a move like this as a good thing for the industry?

All the usual suspects are excited but I’m genuinely trying to find some objectivism about why one of the largest companies in the world buying out enormous studios in order to keep them exclusive is a good thing for gamers.

If they continue to try and bully the competition by absorbing even more major publishers, which they can do, where does that put the industry?

who knows I guess it puts the industry in Microsoft’s hands. Things were much worse when I was a kid so this is fine with me. A gaming pc and a ps5 and I’m set with everything I need.

Only time will tell. Competition is always good and healthy. As long the game quality doesn’t suffer. If this ultimately leads to the end of Sony then no. Microsoft still has a long ways to go when it comes to Japan.

A lot of people can only afford to go with one console. I don’t think they’re stopping here which forces more and more people to go a console for games that they’ve had access to anywhere for years.

Yea I just don’t know. It’s not about just bang for your buck. If these people only buy two games and get to keep them that’s better than a bunch of games they don’t want or play and have to constantly pay for. A bunch of people I know only play COD.

very few gamers I know hop from game to game after they beat them. Game pass would be worthless to them. That’s why I wonder if it can work. I don’t know enough about people’s play habits.

That's all well and good, but it's anecdotal. Most gamers play more than one or two games a year. However, even if they did, and those games were on Game Pass, how is it worthless to them? It's still a better deal, especially if all the DLC hits Game Pass as well, which is becoming more and more frequent.

The only strike against it I can see, is that you don't own anything and it requires internet access, although, that's practically a requirement already. And of course the selection, while good, is still limited. Not every single game is gonna hit GP, and in that case, then yeah, you just buy the game. Let's just say that if it even has one game on there that you want to play, GP is still a better deal than spending $70-$80 on that one game that you may or may not even like.

Sometimes I do wonder though. How many gamers play games so much they want to spend a monthly cost to a game library? It’s not like tv where everyone watches tv and hates commercials. Most gamers I know just play 1 or 2 games a year if that. I’m not sure they are willing to spend money monthly to get more access to more games when all they want is the next COD or fortnite update.

I guess will find out Xbox is going to put it to the test.

They want to be the new Netflix, right? They want you subbed, forgetting about the sub, and paying every month regardless of if you're playing anything or not. The more people buy in, no more used games, eventually always online in Microsoft's ecosystem, no discs, just all digital through Microsoft, however they want to give it to you.

Just what they wanted in 2013.

I'd rather just spend the extra to get the openness and superiority of PC gaming.

I think gamepass is an incredible deal for pc gamers, but I just canceled my subscription. I may pick it up again, but I just don't play enough games to warrant a monthly fee, now that it's going up in price. Most of the games I have been playing aren't 1st party and will eventually leave the platform. I don't like that uncertainty.

Normally I don't like one company gobbling up so many beloved IP's, but I really like Microsoft's dev/consumer-friendly direction lately. THey pumped extra $$ into Wasteland 3, and are giving Obsidian the resources to make the Skyrim/Fallout RPG they've wanted to make a for a while.

Considering how the suits at Zenimax have been poisoning the well in their IP's, it's better to have their titles under M$ IMO

This is a great in-depth look at what's going on at Arkane, one of my fav dev teams

If they keep some of the larger, established IP’s as multiplat and can actually develop some decent games and keep those exclusive, I don’t see a problem with it and it’s ultimately a good move for them. Like I said earlier, you’re still collecting money from PlayStation owners on top of your own profits.

I think it’s if they start hoarding those established IP’s that this doesn’t become an issue of just competition and becomes a threat to the future of said competition.

This really is an unprecedented move.

I already said someone who wasn’t planning to buy an Xbox.

Unless they are complete irrational fanboys who have "SONY" tattoo'd on their ass, this move is one that will make them reconsider that plan, now won't it? Console wars are nothing new, Diz. It's a competitive business.

I really don't know who you think you're fooling. You're just a raging fanboy, and this news upsets you because your team just got dunked on. Nothing more, nothing less.

I feel like ive been repeating this but here is how gamepass has worked out in my life. Im 42 and ive been gaming since nintendo. I have a PC and an xbox currently. I got gamepass almost a year ago. In that time i bought one game on sale for $15. Any game from the past that i want to replay i own. I have played a bunch of awesome games this year on gamepass because of gamepass. I played games i would never spend money on. I found games i never knew about that are top 10 games for me (slay the spire). I found out that if i paid for RDR2 i would have been pissed. Now im playing destiny 2 (never wouldve paid for it) getting ready for the new dlc, which is on gamepass.

Its a shockingly good deal. Literally none of the negatives people talk about have come anywhere close to the positives with my almost year of gamepass. Here is a list of games ive played this year on gamepass
Slay the spire
Rdr2
Gears5
Gears tactics
Into the breach
Plauge
Golf with friends (or wife in my case)
Streets of rage 4
Destiny 2
Wolfenstiens
Metros
Shadows of war
Forza
Age of empires 2 hd
Kingdom come
The new ori
Outer worlds
Ninja gaiden 2
There is probably a few more. I didnt like all of them, only really got hooked by 3 or 4 of them but it was fun as hell to try some new games finding those 3 or 4. When those 3 or 4 games leave gamepass i wont blink an eye.

Does your wife know about the parental controls that limit your gaming time?

Whatever a hardcore fanboy for Sony says he thinks is the right move for Microsoft to make is almost certainly the exact opposite of what they should do. This is evident by the fact he gloats whenever there is bad press for them, and openly desires for them to do as poorly as possible.

There's no reason Microsoft should play nice, here. PS5 owners feel left out? Boohoo. It's time to...

Well as I already said, when anything decent is released in a few years and if it’s exclusive to Microsoft. I’ll probably go down the XBSX or PC route.

Until then I have quite a few quality games to play on my PS5. Sounds like a solid plan imo.

You’re such a sad person lmao.

Thats my reasoning too. There really is no reason to buy a X-box when its already on the PC which has much more flexibility. Its not like the old days where Fable, Halo, Crackdown were exclusively on the X-box and not pc. One thing I would not miss is the X-box Live community which is just a bunch of already hyped up Kyles

You finish like four games a week, dude. Between that and arguing endlessly to push a presidential candidate from a country you don’t even live in, I can’t imagine you have much time for anything else.

I’ll take that as a “no” though. Don’t worry, I won’t say anything.
