Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

If they weren't thinking about making future Bethesda games exclusive, wouldn't they have just made a similar deal as they did with E.A on Game Pass?

it could go either way. They never did it with Minecraft and that would have been pretty huge Xbox.

The "case by case" quote from Spencer suggests some of the big IP's will be exclusive.. imo.

The difference is that those companies were pioneers of their respective industries

Game Pass will be looked at in the the same light. Game services are the future...for better or worse.

It sucked dick at launch.

Couldn't care less if its great now.

Perhaps they should have kept developing it until it was great before launching it.

To be fair, S.O.T is what Rare wanted to do. Now they're making that Everwild game. Microsoft did say they were going to let their studios do whatever they wanted amd chill out unlike before and maybe Rare is proof of that. Who's asking for those games? Lol

Think it's time for Microsoft to take some of those older Rare titles and let other studios give them a shot.

Good for Xbox. I’m happy for them. It couldn’t have happened to a better company.

Give Banjo Kazooie to Double Fine and Perfect Dark to the Initiative..

The relationship with Nintendo is great. Doug Bowser and I, we talk often. Furakawa-san, the CEO of Nintendo, and I know each other well and we have conversations.

I will say that I think the individual IP by IP to different platforms, I can see [it] can kind of get confusing to customers over time. We've been learning, some of our development partners have really wanted to go do this, and we want to support the desires of our creative talent. Some of this have been partner lead.

I think more and more about what does a full Xbox experience mean on different platforms. Right now, it seems like when any game comes out, there's that, "is this one going here, is this one going there." I'd rather be able to set more of an Xbox-level expectation for our fans on where things are going to go. I thought we did that with our first party when we talked about games shipping on Xbox and PC, and I got some blow-back from certain people in certain groups on that, but at least we set an expectation on that. I'd rather see us get to that point on the different pieces of hardware we're on, so I guess I'll kind of leave it there.

I definitely have a ton of respect for the role that Nintendo plays, and I love having great games on their platform. I don't really love this idea that for every one of our games, there becomes this little rumor on it "is it going to end up on the Switch or not." I feel we should set a better expectation with our fans than that.

Earlier this year.

To be fair, S.O.T is what Rare wanted to do.

Rare isn't the Rare of the 90s.

By now everyone that was developing awesome games at Rare are long gone.

So when you say 'SOT is what Rare wanted to do.' You may as well say 'The homeless man took a shit in the middle of the street in front of an elementary school, because he wanted to.'

Yeah, like Perfect Dark.

There's rumors of that, and lets see if they pan out.

@Madmick, if Microsoft announced a Perfect Dark sequel/reboot, I will be buying an XBox.

Holy fuck, I've been a Sony fanboy for so long since Microsoft fucked up the XB1 announcement conference in 2013. I just got chills.

Boom. Bring on new vegas 2! Been on the gamepass train for a minute now an it has yet to let me down. MS has been making big moves for a while now but this is quite a big move.

Microsoft have basically acquired everyone who has ever worked on the Fallout series..

The old Interplay Entertainment team ( split between Obsidian/InXile) and now Bethesda..
That's crazy, hadn't thought of that! I'd love to see InXile remake Fallout 2, with a world map like Wasteland 3.

If franchises like Elder Scrolls and Doom are truly made to be exclusives then that’s one of the biggest scumbag moves I’ve seen in gaming and don’t want to hear a single thing about Microsoft being pro-consumer again.

Developing your own first party exclusives is one thing. Throwing your wallet at an enormous, established publisher is another.

Don't act like Playstation hasn't done it. They made EA's MLB the show a Playstation exclusive and there hasn't been a AAA baseball title on the Xbox or PC since the Xbox One has been out.

Potential shots fired if The Elder Scrolls, Doom and Fallout franchises are kept exclusive to Microsoft. Starfield as well whenever the fuck that's coming. Still doesn't add much to their launch line up, though.

This is what I was thinking too.

By the time a new Elder Scrolls comes out most of us will be dead in the ground though, especially if Bethesda is still calling the shots.

For me personally, Bethesda exclusives aren't enough to make me buy a console. They haven't done anything good since pre fallout 4 and they have generally fallen out of the good graces of everyone.

If people think MS is going to come along and fix Bethesda man are those people in for a very rude awakening.
