Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

Halo getting delayed looks like fuck all now, they needed to pull out a big win and kudos they certainly did just that.
Yeah they really needed something like this. Don’t think anyone would suggest they’ve passed Sony’s first party studios with Bethesda but the desperation move to play catch up might pay off and make this gen somewhat competitive.

So pretty much what I’ve been saying, this is all about Game Pass.

I’m starting to wonder if they aren’t planning to release it on other platforms outside of PC. I think that’s really the only way Game Pass becomes ultra successful.

Whatever happened to Fallout 76? Did anyone end up liking it? Lol
Turns out a lot of people did. The game was improved on quite a bit since release.

They had nothing going into this gen that was attractive outside of hardware specs. I think they needed something badly and this is a 180 for them.

What’s wrong with what I said?

Does anyone who wasn’t already going to buy an Xbox look at a move like this as a good thing for the industry?

All the usual suspects are excited but I’m genuinely trying to find some objectivism about why one of the largest companies in the world buying out enormous studios in order to keep them exclusive is a good thing for gamers.

If they continue to try and bully the competition by absorbing even more major publishers, which they can do, where does that put the industry?
I don’t give a shit, I can still play these games on PC.

Ah, you must think this somehow ends things for a company with a built in 100m player base or something.

We’ll see what happens when their pre-orders go live. Should be very telling of how much people actually care about this news.

Am I the only one who doesn't care at all? All of their games are infinitely better on PC because of mods and fan patches anyway.

Lol, i dont give a shit about any of that. Youre acting like that dude cowboy just fought.

You finish like four games a week, dude.

LOL, wut? I think you have me confused with someone else. I think I've finished maybe four games this entire generation.

The hours you have logged on Fromsoft games alone, trump all my gaming time over a lifetime.

No one spends $7.5 billion out of “desperation”. And “might pay off” and “somewhat competitive” is an absurd take on this - I’m a huge Sony fanboy, already have my PS5 preordered, but this news today is honestly making me question that decision now.

Well that’s not true. The what are you playing thread is filled with your Game Pass endeavors. Glad you’re getting your money’s worth.

Unless Sony is going to start competing in the PC space, it's definitely not a GOOD thing for them.

Microsoft wants higher console sales, but they have the PC as a blue ocean space where everything they put in is returned tenfold, and only for them. Microsoft doesn't need Bethesda to drive sales, this was a big dick move. I think you're seriously underestimating how MS quadrupling down on PC has affected their gaming strategy. Whether you know it or not, Sony is in the PC space now, Microsoft isn't in the console space.

So if they hadn’t spent that money, where do you think they’d be today? If this doesn’t launch Game Pass into the stratosphere then it likely will not pay off.

The somewhat competitive was just a trolly jab lol.

No this isn’t good news for anyone outside of Microsoft.
