Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

Am I the only one who doesn't care at all? All of their games are infinitely better on PC because of mods and fan patches anyway.

The significance of this deal is locking PlayStation users out of future titles from some of the most successful and popular studios and franchises.

No this isn’t good news for anyone outside of Microsoft.

Considering Zenimax's numerous anti-consumer practices, you'd have a hard time portraying this as anything but a net positive for gamers. Unless you're afraid of Bethy games going MS exclusive, in which case it sucks to be you and buy a PC lol.

The somewhat competitive was just a trolly jab lol.

Well that’s not true. The what are you playing thread is filled with your Game Pass endeavors. Glad you’re getting your money’s worth.

Yes. I try out a lot of games, and give my impressions of them. That's a far cry from what you're saying. The only games I've sunk significant(to me at least) amounts of time into were RDR2 and TW3(over 100 hours each), and neither touch the what is it, 1900 or so hours you've got logged on Fromsoft games alone.

Yeah, locking people out of franchises they’ve been able to play freely on nearly every platform is not good for anyone outside of Microsoft and certainly not “gamers.”

That’s a very specific estimate you have.

Uh, they bought the dev. This isn't Epic paying someone to release the game only on their platform, they literally own the dev now.

I get that you're a sony fanboy coping with the new reality that one of your favorite devs is owned by the so called enemy, but i'm pretty sure them choosing to do what they want with their own property is fairly above board. And beyond that, if you think Skyrim paid mods and Creation Club are better for gaming than a Microsoft that has literally been throwing money at their publishers to make their games the best they can be (Hello, Obsidian?), then i'm not sure you really should be discussing this while feigning impartiality.

A selection of RPG's which will be available on gamepass day one..

This is so much better than Google buying it and making everything exclusive to Stadia. That war is still coming...

LOL, wut? I think you have me confused with someone else. I think I've finished maybe four games this entire generation.

The hours you have logged on Fromsoft games alone, trump all my gaming time over a lifetime.

Gaming sure is an odd hobby. You guys both love video games yet you’re each arguing that the other guy games more than the other one?

If there's one thing gamers hate, it's someone enjoying something that they don't enjoy. The Madden subreddit has been a delicious salt mine for my food. :D

Skyrim on Xbox had more than double the amount of mods than PS.

I think it’s a dangerous precedent for a company with endless pockets to be buying up gigantic publishers. I doubt this is the last of what they’re going to do.

You must be a big fan of Disney, I’m assuming.

No one spends $7.5 billion out of “desperation”. And “might pay off” and “somewhat competitive” is an absurd take on this - I’m a huge Sony fanboy, already have my PS5 preordered, but this news today is honestly making me question that decision now.
I wouldnt, yet. The ps5 will be great and i would bet the bethesda, id etc games will be on them. Microsoft is making big moves but i dont think the intention is to hurt sony and its player base...although that might happen. I kinda think MS is starting to show the hand they have been building for gaming which seems to be bigger (or at least happening faster) than people thought. I am wondering how valve is feeling right now after watching the first vid @GearSolidMetal posted.

Unless Sony is going to start competing in the PC space, it's definitely not a GOOD thing for them.

Microsoft wants higher console sales, but they have the PC as a blue ocean space where everything they put in is returned tenfold, and only for them. Microsoft doesn't need Bethesda to drive sales, this was a big dick move. I think you're seriously underestimating how MS quadrupling down on PC has affected their gaming strategy. Whether you know it or not, Sony is in the PC space now, Microsoft isn't in the console space.
They've been bringing a few of their games to PC recently. If they wanna make a big impact on PC and commit to the platform then they're gonna have to throw more than a few crumbs from current gen. Maybe even a Sony Launcher might be the way to go.

Know what I do when a franchise does something I don't like? I stop consuming the franchise.

Star Wars disavows the EU, I stop consuming Star Wars. Hitman goes Epic exclusive, I stop consuming Hitman. I have 3500 hours in Rocket League. When Psyonix got purchased by Epic, I uninstalled the game and haven't played it since. I have a Season 1 Gold Crown and all the Black Market skins I could ever want.

You can't ding one company for curating exclusives and laud another for developing them in house. I played Spider-Man on N64, why does Sony get a pass for keeping Spider Man exclusive? Everyone loves Final Fantasy, you gonna stop playing them since Sony monopolized the IP from Nintendo? Did you know the first Final Fantasy predated the Playstation? Well here you go, your favorite IPs will now be developed in house by Microsoft. If Sony gets a pass, then you can't possibly be upset with Microsoft. If you are, then you're simply not being consistent.

Sony realizes that they fucked up not addressing PC sooner by viewing it as a "Microsoft platform". Sure PCs nearly always ran Windows, but PC has always been nominally viewed as a vendor agnostic platform. So Microsoft realizing the direction of consoles and capitalizing on PC really put them in a hole this gen. Microsoft unified their consoles and PCs under the same gaming banner, they've rewritten the paradigm while Sony was still trying to operate on the old rules. Any gaming strategy that doesn't consider the PC going forward is going to be gimped unless you're Uncle Nintendo with your big dad dick.
