Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

You mean to tell me that Microsoft spent $7.5 BILLION dollars to...benefit themselves and hurt their competitors, by making the licenses they acquired exclusive?

Who could have possibly seen this coming? Oh' right, everyone who isn't an irrational Sony fanboy.
Todd Howard confirmed irrational Sony fanboy.

Not my problem you bought into that vague PR statement from a guy who has no say in the matter.

Here's what I used to deduce that they were scooping up developers for exclusivity:

"Microsoft buys Zenimax for $7.5 Billion"

That was it. I didn't need ten thousand twitter threads to parse it all out, either. I'm sharp like that. When a company spends that kind of money to acquire developers and licenses, there's this stuff in my brain thingy that says "I bet they're doing it to hurt their competition". What can I say? My deductive reasoning is on another level. 2 + 2 really does equal 4. Who knew? Me, that's who.

Well hold on now, cretin. Your assertion was that only an “irrational Sony fanboy” thought there was any chance of Bethesda titles making their way to other platforms.

An executive at Bethesda didn’t think that would happen either. Sure, ultimately it’s not his decision but I’m sure he’s privy to a bit more information than the wife neglecting right wing troll.

You can be a smug prick all you’d like but that doesn’t change the fact that to a lot of people it did seem like a possibility. Even people a bit higher up than yourself.

You sound upset. If you bought into Todd Howard's vague, non-committal PR musings that were meant to keep rabid Sony fanboys like yourself from going nuclear during the grace period, over the fact that MS spent $7.5 BILLION dollars(that's a lot of money, BTW) to acquire his studio and others for the most obvious reason that a toddler could figure out, that's on you and speaks to your mindset.

Don't be mad because your baseless "beliefs" brought on by sheer blind fanboyism, were trumped by reality. At the end of the day, your position boiled down to thinking MS spent $7.5 BILLION dollars(again, that's a lot of money) to make this enormous acquisition...for seemingly no reason at all and maintain the status quo. Imagine how delusional one would have to be to actually believe that...

I mean they’ve already announced new IP’s which they’ve said would be exclusive, that wasn’t a surprise. My surprise was at the legacy franchises being exclusive seeing as how they already have a massive fan base built in that goes far beyond the perennial bronze medalist.

Todd Howard was giving his honest thoughts about where it was going in an interview and he had the same line of thinking I did. The vague, non-committal comments were all from Phil Spencer. “Case by case basis.”

The creator of Elder Scrolls is now, according to you, a infantile, irrational fanboy. Couldn’t have been he was in pretty important meetings and things like that were being considered. Nah, just trying to stave off the backlash for decisions he has zero input in, for a company he doesn’t run lmao.

That's completely irrational. Why would it surprise anyone that MS is using their acquisition to take advantage of the biggest franchises within it? That's like...the entire purpose of such an acquisition. What would be surprising, is if they didn't cut off their competition from the huge franchises they spent a fuck ton of money acquiring. That would be incredibly shocking, because it wouldn't make any sense.

Quit trying to shift blame to Todd Howard or anyone else for your naivety brought on by being a zealot for a fucking videogame company. Anyone with half a brain knew what was up. It's just sad that you're still trying to rationalize such an irrational position, and trying to find scapegoats for making an absolute ass of yourself throughout this entire thread.

You didn't believe it, because you didn't want to believe it, since it would hurt your precious Sony. That's all your denial was based on. Own it.

I’m not even the only poster who was surprised to see it lol.

But yeah, you’re right. I should never have followed the line of thinking of one of the highest level executives at Bethesda and creator of the franchise. He had irrational Sony fanboy written all over him.

I’ve already admitted I was wrong. A lot of people were. Ultimately though it’s terrible for the industry as a whole and it’s absolutely not shocking at all that you would support something shitty.

Explain how this is terrible for the industry, but Sony and Nintendo hoarding all of their exclusives isn't. This outta be good for a laugh.

Buying an established publisher the size of Bethesda has literally never been done. As I said earlier, taking established franchises that have been available since the 90s across dozens of platforms are now suddenly walled off for millions of people who were previously able to choose where they played these titles.

Nintendo has always developed their own IP’s in house and Sony’s acquisitions have been focused on studios they’ve had a working relationship with for years.

Microsoft tried and failed for years to follow these strategies so they did the most anti-consumer thing they could and bought a massive publisher to give them an edge.

It’s pretty simple to understand why it’s bad for gaming, especially when they’ve said they’re not done. I’m sure everyone is clamoring to have the video games industry mirror Windows and the PC space.

They're not "walled off". You don't need a special license to own an Xbox.

So? How is hoarding them not "terrible for the industry", according to your brilliant logic that it somehow limits the options for consumers?

Oh' heavens! It's almost like they're...competing in the business they're in or something. This has never been done before! I mean, it's not like Sony ever partnered up with a huge developer like...pfff...Squaresoft or anything, and kept their big franchises exclusive to take a bite out of their competition. Nintendo certainly wouldn't attempt such nefarious actions, like getting exclusive rights to a huge franchise like...oh'..."Resident Evil" or anything, either. This is so unique on Microsoft's part to be so heartless as to acquire exclusive rights to big videogame franchises, in an effort to get a leg up on the competition. It's outrageous!

Yet you can't articulate it in any logical, non-emotional rabid fanboy manner.

Yes they’re walled off behind an Xbox or a PC. They were available to play on dozens of consoles over the years.

An exclusive title is not the same as an exclusive franchise that was available for people to pick where they preferred to play.

I explained why it’s a bad precedent for the industry already. You thought you “got me” and all you’ve been able to do is draw false equivalencies.

One company buying massive publishers who houses dozens of developers is not good for the industry. But of course because you’re legitimately one of the worst people here, you see nothing wrong with it.

Say hi to the Mrs.

I’m really enjoying playing street fighter on my series x. Oh wait.
Don’t forget Spider-Man! That’s the other absurd comparison Xbots tend to make when comparing it to buying fucking Bethesda.

a series that has been multi platform for “decades” that Sony paid capcom to take away from everyone else.
Yea spider man Is another one.

Street Fighter is remaining on Sony platforms exclusively?

This argument literally only holds weight if Sony bought Capcom and walled everything off.

That’s the comparison you were looking for. But I guess a massive publishing giant and a title in a franchise are exactly the same.

No they released it on pc as well. Just keeping it off of Xbox. As to the future who knows? As far as I’m aware they haven’t announced a SF6, neither do we know if they’ll make an elder scrolls 7 but maybe PlayStation owners will have a shot at that one.

From what I’ve seen it will return to all platforms again. Either way, paying for exclusive access to a prominent entry in a series was a scummy move by Sony, to be sure.

I’m glad we can agree that both companies are guilty of competition at the expense of certain fanbases. I don’t necessarily see it as “scummy”. But it’s a business reality and while I would personally like all games to be open platform as much as possible, there has to be incentive to pick one box over another and exclusives are a big part of that for better or worse. The only thing that will change any of this is the death of consoles.

No, you haven't. You've explained why you personally don't like it, complete with typical double standards brought on by your rabid fanboyism. You have not in any way whatsoever, explained why it is bad for the industry for MS to purchase exclusive rights to franchises in an effort to rise their stock in the industry and give people more incentive to buy an Xbox, and why it isn't bad for Sony and Nintendo to hoard theirs for the exact same reasons.

You're not fooling anyone, Ditzy. You're seething mad about this for one reason and one reason only, and we all know what it is.

Lmao, of course you’re taking the disingenuous everything is equal position.

You know exactly why this isn’t a good precedent. One giant company taking over giant publishers and putting up walls around the content is not the same as what Nintendo and Sony are doing. Not even close, you absolute dork.
