Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

Very surprising. I planned on getting it for PC either way though so I don't really care one way or the other.
Same, it’s the reason I invested in a PC. I saw this was a definite possibility and I’d be set up to play the best versions of these titles but damn, what a huge middle finger to millions of people who have played these titles for decades on other platforms.

Wow, I’m definitely surprised ES is going to be 100% exclusive, no timed release, nothing. Especially given all the inconsistent messaging since this was announced.

Legitimately one of the scummiest moves I’ve seen in gaming with this acquisition. Taking long established open platform franchises and putting them behind a paywall.
Just play on pc gamepass and you’re good to go.

Tbf, Morrowind was a Xbox/PC exclusive.. Oblivion a xbox timed exclusive.. the only title in the series with no distinct association with Xbox was Skyrim.
Yes but his wording makes it sound like this is going to extend far beyond ES. I’m just going to assume every future Bethesda title will be Xbox/PC based on that. They have quite a few well established franchises that have been available to play anywhere you preferred.

Decades huh? Other “platforms”? You mean PlayStation.

I did say for you to be prepared for this reality back in 2020.

Regardless of this, there were always going to be Microsoft games I’d want to play so I’m glad I did prepare.

You even had Todd Howard saying he couldn’t imagine ES being exclusive. Definitely surprising the legacy franchises are being walled off.

But hey, he and I were wrong and hopefully this doesn’t continue to set precedents with publisher snatching and locking players out of their preferred platforms.

@Madmick right now

The live stream today was quite bad for an Anniversary stream, no?

I thought there would be some exciting announcements.

Was reading there's no plans for fallout 5 yet.

Unreal, you'd think with all of this liquidity MS would be able push this shit along.

Admitting you’re wrong is much easier than deleting posts, banning posters from threads, shifting goalposts and flat out lying to save face.

I thought they had stated like a month ago there basically would be no new game announcements at this event. A little odd, but at least they tried to keep expectations in check.

Did they actually have an exclusivity agreement for those games or was that due to Morrowind being not being able to run on PS2 due to the lack of a harddrive (and maybe other hardware requirements) and PS3 not even being out yet when Oblivion was released?

Microsoft approached them about a version of the game during development

Ah, understood. That's fair, but still incredibly lackluster.. The new Halo doesn't look to be exciting

Big MEH for me.

Got curious and checked Bethesada's list of games and confirmed that all of the ones I played were on PC . I have a few that I've gotten free for PS Plus (The Evil Within and maybe something else I dunno) but I've actually never played them (just sit there like the 150+ games on the account).

This was always going to be played on a PC for me.

You mean to tell me that Microsoft spent $7.5 BILLION dollars to...benefit themselves and hurt their competitors, by making the licenses they acquired exclusive?

Who could have possibly seen this coming? Oh' right, everyone who isn't an irrational Sony fanboy.
