Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

Said =/= thought

Selling out (AKA giving up autonomy over your product) is less respectable than attempting to make your product more desirable than your competitions' imo

I assumed it was sarcasm

Can I just change the subject for a second and ask wtf is up with the colour of your username? Light green? Wtf is that?

<TheWire1>

Edit: now mine is light green too! Wtf is going on??

My current theory is that anyone with free plat became lime green and lost the "platinum member" tag. Was your plat a mod gift?

All of those IP’s are multiplat.
The recent remake and the newest final fantasy will be locked behind playstation exclusivity.. for a unspecified amount of time.

In fact, Sony keep extending these deals.

I don't see how you could possibly act like a company who makes consoles has done something wrong by securing more exclusives for their consoles.
Have a quick look at the first few pages of this thread.. literally melted down and starting attacking people personally.. thankfully he's calmed down and his only grievance seems to be Microsoft for their increasing attempts to gain more of a foothold in the industry and improve market share lol

That completely flies in the face of Sony’s long standing strategy.
We’ve already established that Sony isn’t above paying to keep exclusives for themselves, their long standing strategy is irrelevant when I was speculating if they had Microsoft’s war chest. They are in direct competition with another company and billions of dollars are in the line. I think you’re naive if you believe they aren’t out to crush the competition with the tools available to them.

They have never been about these types of acquisitions. If EA was in serious talks, Sony would have been able to come to the table.

Regardless, a year in and they’re still on top. Fastest selling console in history, I’d say they’re still doing fine. We’ll see what Bethesda brings in a few years.

Sony should buy Square.

Thing about TES games is they aren’t a continuing story. Each game is its own entity. So it’s not like Sony/Nintendo fans are being deprived of the ending to a story or anything like that.

Its not like they bought BioWare after ME2 preventing you from finishing the story with ME3.

this one stings

Stings?

That's a surprise to absolutely no one.

What's the point of buying a giant gaming corporation like Zenimax if they're going to also release the products it creates to be available on the competition's hardware?

I don’t really keep up with gaming news so I had no idea lol

Not true. There are some very special people who thought Microsoft was just doing Bethesda a solid, and giving them some fun bucks to continue to develop games for their competitors. I don't think ZC qualifies, but there were a few in here who thought MS was just sharing the wealth with no strings attached.

Those posters have no idea of Microsoft's history of savage business practices.

On a serious note it could have been possible. I don't know how MS is paying their developers to put their games on GamePass but the biggest games typically don't show up unless MS forks over some cash or provides a sweet cut based on how many people download and play the game? Again i know squat about the payout structure but buying Zenimax means their games goes on Gamepass for free yes? The cost wasn't cheap. The goal was to draw more customers to Gamepass. They're going to make their extra bonus money from people like me who do not have Gamepass and will pay for a copy on PC so why not also put it on PS store but negotiate a better fee? Offer the whole or a large portion of the ZC collection but for a better lower percentage cut that Sony takes. Then you get their business and you could differentiate the versions on GamePass by making special bonus content that's only available on XBox (like when Destiny was released there was a lot of special content on PS... there were some jealous gamers.). Then you can strategically do things like special DLCs for games on every platforms that are only available on XBox and draw people towards Gamepass. Once they get a taste they may realize GP is where it's at.

It's not about sharing the wealth. They can eat their cake and eat some of Sony's cake too and strategically steal and outgrow their competitor.
